Well CR has said there will be lots of different flight modes, so maybe racing will be like that.

Seems unlikely but you never know...

The new M50 commercial is a Top Gear spoof...

The advertising campaign is beginning to confuse me now - there is zero continuity with actual gameplay, so I am guessing this is more for the benefit of getting existing backers to buy an additional ship, rather than attracting a new install base?

Same with the constellation fmv - That re-dub above was far more indicative of the actual experience lmao (except for the MASSIVE difference in fidelity between the fmv and the in-game model as it currently stands).

That's perhaps the biggest rub with those advertising videos: The flight model they show in those ads follows what Elite Dangerous is doing ingame, yet when it comes to actual gameplay we're stuck with moving a camera with some added inertia, because realism.

Also, I'd love to see advertising material to come more from ingame recordings. You know, like they did back when they had their Kickstarter going.

Their flight model is incomplete at least according to the guy who is programming it. He stated that a while ago while there was an uproar on the forums about the zero order mouse/FPS feel of it and all that. He ran out of time while working on the model because CR wanted to push it out so he had to stop and make it release ready with what he had at hand.

With v.9 we will see if he was blowing smoke or there are no changes made to the flight. Honestly, I prefer the way flight is handled in Elite. It's FUN > Realism any day of the week. I hope at least that the SC model ends up somewhere between the current SC flight model and Elite's. Otherwise it will be a damn shame.

I just hate how much people spew "realistic" flight model on the forums when majority of the game is not realistic, starting with the way the ships are designed. Who cares about realism if the game is not fun. At least in my opinion.

Agreed. Let's judge the book by it's contents. It doesn't even have to be like Elite really - I don't mind SC being different. It just needs to be controllable, fun, and I hope they manage to fix the lack of perceived speed.

Apparently they did a first pass on the flight systems too. Nobody knows what happened though but if they said they did then they must have done some changes. What they are? We will see.

Ah, Top man! :)

Thanks for sharing that, I have been putting of buying any packages for this game until I saw more actual gameplay, but now at least I can catch a glimpse of the game for myself.

+1 to you sir! :)

I'd start downloading now if I were you to ensure you get any time to play. It's about a 13GB download.

That race honestly looks more like something from a final fantasy minigame.
And it seems very mediocre at best, just flying trough hoops in a fishbowl with an uncontrollable ship. Unlike the commercial, the ships seems to have no stability at all.
Good thing they didn't get Jeremy Clarkson to test thing cause he would probably destroy the M50 on the terrible controls alone.

And is that race supposed to be in atmosphere? cause then it really should be flying like an airplane and not like a spaceship with crazy thrusters.

Yep, downloaded 3 GB already ;)

I am bracing myself for the wobbly mouse-centric controls :p

You'll want to brace harder :D

It's quite a shock to the system initially, but you do get used to it eventually.

If you suffer from motion sickness though - you'll quickly learn to avoid the constant over-correction loop that commonly happens. Imagine a wine cork bobbing in the North Sea in a gale :)

That sounds fabulous...

But seriously I intend to take it for what it is, on its own merits, rather than expecting it to be like anything else.

Though having said that the control scheme does sound very Freelancer-like it that regard. I was rather fond of Freelancer. :)

Hopefully they'll also do a free trial/demo after the 6DoF and rebinding goes live, I don't feel the current flight model is really indicative of where they want it to be.
I assume they're just putting the one racing track for the moment?

I don't know if you can ask this but why isn't there any metal music? All I've heard so far on SC soundtrack is techno/symphonic, don't get me wrong I do enjoy orquestral compositions, but I've never seen a space cowboys (on movies lol) cruising while listening to that. Any chance to add another style of music? (whispers of voices: metal...metal..metal).

PS: I'm already doing my part for elite's music PM if you're interested to listen :D

Hey I got your question through here is the timestamp of where it was answered.

"The next big thing"..." first pass control customisation"...

You can tell that the promotional material to this point was handled by a seperate department.

I would rather NOT play for free this week than meet the game in its current state - I think im going to keep following progress but wait for 2016 to roll round before passing any judgment. A free preview is all well and good, but without being unable to follow progress it could be somewhat counter productive :/

My hope is that there is a lot of work done on HOTAS. At the moment, flying with a joystick is just not really enjoyable, at least compared to Elite. In Elite, the joystick movement is very smooth for what you are trying to tell your ship to do. On the other hand, in SC it feels like you are a drunkard fighting your ship for control.
