If we are going to talk about their crowd funding finances. In July not much happened. Fasten your seat belt for August. It's going to be a money roller coaster. With the M50 sale and the Gamescom demo things will get pretty crazy.

Also I think flight in SC requires a lot of skill but targeting doesn't as much at the moment. You need to know how your ship acts and how the thrusters effect it. First when I fired up AC I was wobbling all around. Then I was like hold on a minute this is a realtime simulation of mass and thrusters. So I cooled down my erratic movement and learned how to fly and drift the ship.

That way I can even own Hornets and 300i's with my Aurora in the Multiplayer. It takes time to get to know how to fly your ship and all ships feel different. The Hornet is heavier the 300i is more agile and turns faster and the Aurora has a good amount of armour does more continuous damage and turns a bit slow. I am really enjoying AC now. Leading players or Vanduul in to the Asteroid field to ambush them and drifting around Asteroids to flank them makes a lot of fun.

I'm sincerely impressed with ED's standard beta. The incremental improvements made the already very solid foundation even better.
However, I realized now that ED can never beat SC in a very significant category: competitive online gameplay. This is due to the fact that all the assets in solo play can be carried over into online play. That renders any real notion of risk and reward non-existent, since a player can always simply grind together his next Anaconda in his exclusive single player bubble w/o taking any risk from being attacked by other players. By that there is no real long-term accomplishment in ED multiplayer, whereas SC multiplayer will be based on a high risk and high reward system where you cannot switch into "safe mode" to get the rare loot.

You are absolutely right about Arena Commander being a much better game for competitive PvP - it's designed to be.
However, I think you have the wrong impression about Elite: Dangerous - there is no "Safe Mode" in E: D, even playing solo, the NPCs can cream you with great ease if you don't have an iron-ass loadout and some real skills.

Also, E: D is not intended to be a PvP-focused game, although PvP is certainly possible, the game is designed to be leaning more towards co-op PvE, as the galaxy is very harsh, and unforgiving - no "X to respawn" in E: D.

It's worse than that. It's an investment trap, committed by many new people on the stock market. It's throwing good money after bad. You invest in something you think is good. When it starts failing, rather than using your brain and cutting your losses, you use emotion and excuses and throw more money at it in the hopes it'll recover. That almost never ends well.

The worst part here is the guy managing the investment is regularly going to the investors can saying "We need more money to get your return, you've already put $X in, we can do it with a bit more. You'll see a return soon!". It's almost like a pressure con. It's not that far off "Hello, we have $1M dollars in your name in our Nigerian bank account, please send $100 for processing so we can release it to you.".

If I were a stock broker I'd be advising people to sell.

CiG is a boiler room. Interesting.

This is due to the fact that all the assets in solo play can be carried over into online play.

I believe if you start a character in solo (off-line) mode, you can never bring it online. I think I'm right in this. Maybe others can confirm.

It's a game nobody has to pay anything a lot of them to it because they have the money and want to support to make this game happen. Most of the community knows that CIG has enough cash already. I have no idea why people are so annoyed about what other people do with their money? If computer game's is my hobby and I really want a Space Game like Star Citizen what is there to stop me if I have the money to put in to the game to support it.

Many people sold their packages between the PAX reveal and the AC release but that doesn't change the fact that the Star Citizen population is still increasing packages are still being bought and money still comes in. There was a period in May where many of the skeptics sold their packages. But again they were bought out by SC fans for way more money than their original price! That show's that people have the money and the means to spend it for SC.

But It seems like a big portion of the internet really is jealous about that fact because they keep talking about how much money people put in SC. Why would you talk about other people's financials otherwise? It must bother one.

By Solo you mean Singleplayer right? The SP is a campaign, only medals and story material continues over to the PU from what I remember.

It has nothing to do with how people spend their money, and everything to do with CIG focusing on making more money instead of producing a game.

I believe the reply was about ED.

It can be confusing.

There will be a completely offline mode for E : D - not implemented as yet, and this is completely separate from the online game.

In the online game, there are three modes of play: Solo, Private Group and All.
You can switch between these modes, but you do so at the start of your session - there is no quick function to switch in-game, you have to save & quit, then come back in.
PvP fans are somewhat concerned that players will jump into 'Solo' mode as soon as they encounter another player, robbing them of the chance to stomp them. Again, I should stress that the majority of folks looking to play E: D are not looking for PvP combat/pirating etc, again the PvP fans are concerned that if they have no players to pirate, there will be nothing to pirate - not true, the galaxy is full of NPCs to plunder.

Personally, I see the 'Solo' mode as one I would use from time to time, when I'm feeling anti-social and grumpy, and also when I experience bad connectivity, lag and so on. Private Group will get used when myself and my friends want to either blast each other for a bit of fun, or when we want to do missions as co-op, or practice things like tactics and flight maneuvers, and not be bothered by potential random player encounters. I expect at least half of my playing time to be spent in the 'All' group. I like having the different groupings, and having the choice. PvP fans seem to want to force everyone to play "their game", and claim that Solo and Private groups are somehow 'safe' modes of play - when really they are not.

I doubt there is a greater concentration of Elite: Dangerous backers than at the CIG offices in Santa Monica, Austin and Manchester... we don't just want to make Star Citizen a success, we want to bring back SPACE SIMS and PC GAMES. Most of us grew up with Elite, and we respect the hell out of what they're doing with Dangerous... and can't wait to play, if we ever get free time. Any competition isn't coming from us!

I'm into ED... but of course, if a day SC sees the light, I'll try that one out too, of course. Don't you?

There's never only THE ONE, there are all different around :D

No offense to purists :D

Personally, arrogant posts like yours is what bothers me more than people throwing away money to space sim evangelists.

Bit of a pretentious comment!

No it is very modest.
He's basically saying they can't compete :p.

On a serious note... having enjoyed playing the privateer games, and others Roberts was involved in, I do look forward to sc.
But I have to say that Elite Dangerous is priority number one for me. For me ED is it!
I doubt I will divert much time to SC once I have immersed myself in the Elite universe.
The mere fact that Elite models a realistic 1:1 galaxy is unbeatable compared to the limited sector based design of sc.
I also love the Elite ships and do not care very much for most of the SC designs. To me the ship design is very important. My favorite ships are the Homeworld series designs.

All I have to say is, it is good for customers !!

Thank you so much to these two great company to bring back a true space game experience. (we will have to wait a little more for SC ^^ but i'll play it too for sure)
I think my hearth will stay on elite anyway because I feel closer of their vision of a space sim.

RIP - XRebirth : We will remember you as a X fail ! but we can still play to X3AP, great game :)

It's been stated so many times now that both Chris Roberts and David Braben are both backers of each others projects and their projected release windows are so far apart that I don't see any reason for any serious space sim fan not to buy both.

But even with all that said, It's so tiring to see every single conversation about Elite Dangerous on other websites turn into a massive fight between it and Star Citizen.

I think the real problem are players themselves, who are so financially and emotionally invested in one that they are determined for the other to fail as some kind of validation.

It really reminds me of console fan boys and it's really grating.
