The Star Citizen Thread V2.0

The presentation was bad as expected... Roberts seemed as if he was in a rush to get it over with and the guys behind the screens tried really hard to look like they didn't know what they were doing. This also is reinforced by how agitated Roberts got when the guys behind the screens were slow in responding.

The racing was so crap it was almost offensive.
Then again I don't like flight-race minigame games.

Lots of cinematic videos again. They seem to make videos for EVERYTHING... I guess it's a side effect from making so many ship advertisements. I kind of like watching them, even though I might not like what they're showing, if you know what I mean.

I was quite excited when I realized they were going to show the multicrew ships... then I saw 2 turrets and a guy in the cockpit doing nothing.
Maybe one day (in the far far future) they'll get it close to Planetside 2 functionality and it'll be worth something, for now I was not impressed.

THEN he teases us with that 5 second clip of the FPS module (which I'm quite looking forward to) and for a second I expected at least some gameplay footage.Instead the door hit me on the face.

pfft.

EDIT: The flight changes will be interesting, but the stream was stuttering and I didn't get all the changes.. will have to look for them. Also the co-op vandull swarm should be fun for a few plays here and there.

It was a little embarrassing to watch at times, why on earth they can't opt just to show pre-recorded footage instead of performing everything live, I have no idea. If everything went smoothly and left viewers with an impression of professionalism, that would be great, but that is yet to happen and this looked like half of it was made up on the fly.

Also disheartening to yet again see all those playing the game live on stage using mice too, even after the criticism levelled at the bias shown towards that control method, I would have thought (expected) them to make an concerted effort and use a HOTAS.

What a mess of a show.

It was still better than their last outing :)

To give them their due though - there was no This Is Bul... moment, Fish Trader was nowhere in sight, I don't think I saw a helmet flip either :)

CR is very good at pushing his cinematic view - and even though it didn't suit my personal tastes - what was shown was slick and looked quite well done. It was somewhat spoiled by being generic, as already mentioned.

The one moment I really did like was the little rover buggy thing - I can see that being genuinely useful and fun - and I would like to see Elite have something comparable when FPS is introduced. Maybe not buggies - but certainly something like a walker or argocat.

Improvements to the flight model sound interesting - but I took it as only being effective when decoupled. I'm not sure how any of that would work. Better sounds - always welcome! Leaderboards and score charts? Not for me - but there are many potatos here who would probably be better off showing just how good they are over there :D

It was a very good presentation in my opinion. But hey this forum dislikes everything CIG does anyway so I know you all hated it :D

The presentation had a number of hiccups for sure. The amount of info and actual development seen though was very good. I especially liked the race part (seems to be very fun ~ especially with proper key bindings coming soon), as well as the planet terrain shown in the in-engine Connie commercial.

I think it was a fantastic animation. Some of the content, like the 2001 homage at the beginning and end could easily have been removed and the video would stand on its own merits.

I agree with others regarding the pricing of those ship variants. They really are taking the mickey now.

That trailer was a bit strange, everything felt a bit off.
I was expecting Gollum's get to start chanting "precious, precious" when the Connie landed.

Hate is a strong word and I certainly didn't hate it, but that presentation could have gone far better. If you thought it 'very good', then so be it, but in places that looked incredibly unprofessional to me. And it's this that what worries me, if people are so quick to gush about anything they show, what is this game going to end up like?

They should have shown a pre-recorded video, have Chris Roberts do what he does best and chat over it and sell the new upcoming features they plan to introduce and most there would have been very happy, it no doubt would have cost far less too. At the end of the day, all that people wanted to see was new in-game footage.

I have backed both Elite Dangerous (alpha level) and Star Citizen to the tune of an LTI Constellation package and even though Star Citizen was the game I supported first I have become increasing disheartened by the path it is taking and the style of it's marketing. It smacks of style over substance, with everything so overblown and it is actually the understated nature of Elite Dangerous' development path that has won me over.

Yup - those ship prices are a tad on the high side for something that will just sit in a hangar for an unknown length of time until the game engine is equipped to run it, and require two friends online to actually use it.

Thats another thing I noticed - these ships are all just so, so small!

Like teeny!

The multicrew part was the only part which i give credit to them. It was something new and i could see some fun stuff .

The rest of the show:BORING
Racing looks so shallow and the 30mins sales show in the beginning was a pain in the ass.

What about more gameplay than commercials?

All in all you can see that the cinematic experience is the main goal. Everything else is sacrificed. So in my opinin there is a lack of something that you can´t create with bells and whistles: Soul!

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I didn't watch the live stream on account of the trouble they had starting it, but I did check out some of the YouTube videos they've posted of the new hangar art, racing, etc.

It impressed me. Now of course these are just videos and not representative of actual game play, but I can still enjoy them for the cinematic experiences they are. :)
