I am no real good pilot - mediocre I would say, but I try to fly immersive and "stylish" if possible...
...
Okay I am not mediocre I am usually in the first 1-3 places in any Game mode in MP (most of the time I am 1st - whether this says sth. about my skill or the skill of the SC crowd I leave open)..)..

Ok, let us see that video. But i hope it's more consistent than your statement about your flying skills. ;)
And don't cut out the parts where you are crashing in other ships or other floating bodies. Best thing would be an entire non-stop 10-20 minute flight.

its only 8 minutes now cause processing is so long and I wanted to show something before I go to sleep and even if its from the game mode start with easier vanduul you will see the basic flight "scheme"..
But I can do a second one. Also it gets harder each wave and though it gets more intense. (every now and then there will spawn a "named" AI - which is tougher - in the end they are pretty tough.. also because they come in numbers and spam rockets)

Its not cutted, and its not a fifth recording until it got sth. perfect or sth. like that etc..

its just that: I hopped into Single player and made a small recording for you - its just a mediocre performance in my eyes (even if I am ususally on top in MP game modes in SC, I blame the many newbies I play with, in E: D I am more in the middle of the field - feeling-wise ^^)..

Video: [please ignore the background talk ;)]

http://youtu.be/8AAcIYW4fFo

[its still rendering, usually the 1080 mode is available after 10 -30 minutes]

the biggest problem for me now is it has no steady aim...

-- conclusion:

I think I understood the vision of E: D and SC - and I like both. SC is fast-action packed and E: D is more deep and gives you more time for tough decisions while in SC you can only react instinctively. (e.g. in E: D should I try to fell or turn around and give a fight, while in SC I just fight - maybe because theres no option to jump away^^)
If it were the other way round and E: D had 50M and SC 5M then they were still that way, just that the other game would be more polished - which I dont care all too much to be true. In the end I cant play with very high anyway and what counts are the games itself and not the expensive modelled details...

E: D and SC have nothing to fear from each other. In fact they profit I hope. I wish they both stucked their heads together and join forces to develop a better networking frame - which I think is the most critical part in both games and which I think both games still could improve upon...
Such a network model could work in both games maybe - I dont see where they are that different from each other regarding Netcode... but b4 critics: I have no deeper insights - its just a thought..

Well most backers disagree.

Yeah to be honest, the YAW is still way way powerful. They need to bring it in line with the power of roll at least.

For the type of game they are trying to make, especially now with the lead indicator, they must nerf down the yaw to power levels below the roll.

It's quite telling how terrible the FM/mechanic is when people are having lot of issues hitting targets with the fixed guns. Hell, the mouse is still far more superior to shoot/kill than joystick/hotas.

Oh I just watched my own Video. With this TrackIR forced aim its terrible.

I recorded a second one without trackir - rendering now - and I advise you to watch the last 5-10 Minutes. Those are pretty intense and are how - in my eyes - Star Citizen is meant to be played (Chasing through Debris fields; markmanship, crazy turns near G-Force Blackout maneuvers, including big explosions ;) )...

But this time I recorded ~32 Minutes, and rendering now takes 2 hours - together with upload I doubt the video will be ready until 3-4 am...

but it will be the better one.

Well to be fair, he did say that his joystick model apparently didn't work properly with the mapping. Still, all the videos I have seen so far make flying look really uncomfortable... even people with M&KB that do well.

I am also preparing a video from 0.9. The frames aren't great though. Will post it up once it's online.

Feel free to make videos at a lowered or minimum graphics settings if it helps to get a smoother video.
We all know how the graphics in SC look, it's the gameplay that is of interest :)

Alright on the lowest settings the video frame gets about 24 which is barely alright for a video but anyway I will try to record one. Will let you guys know once it's up.

this is a better Video I made. It takes a few minutes until I get into the zone. watch the last 5-10 minutes if you want directly go into more difficult and faster paced action.

example start at 23:30 (around where wave 10 begins)

from 24-28 - dont tell me that asteroid fight wasnt intense.. I sure played very risky there..

Very nice video. That 24 to 28 part was intense. What I recorded is similar to this just with mouse and keyboard which is even smoother. So I think cptzipzaps video serves the purpose already and its even better because he has a joystick.

Also cheers for listening to StarCast one of my weekly favourites!

Well it is overall better than 0.8.
But it still doesn't convince me of much as it's just showing off how the game is a space shooter, hardly a space sim.

The only way i could enjoy a game like this is the same way to manage to watch a standard hollywood movie, set my brain to zero and try to ignore all inconsistencies and nonsensical logic.

Sure it may be entertaining but i'd get no fulfillment from it at all, i guess it just depends on what you're looking for.

I don't have access to SC, so I won't comment on the underlying residual issues but in terms of design moving to the lead indicator, increasing the speeds and at least moving towards 6dof seems like a very significant positive direction and so far videos from the 0.9 patch seem to reflect this. It does look a good deal better than it did prior to the changes.

At least in a shooter you need to try and dodge incoming fire.
It seems this guy just needs to point towards an enemy and shoot.
Even the blackout/redout doesn't seem to bother him much.

I'm not judging his flying, but the gameplay is still utterly simplistic.

lol

I'm gonna say it. It looks like the target audience of SC is the same group of people who believe Expendables to be suspenseful.

I realize i'm gonna be part of a minority. It's just the way things are, apparently. We have Michael Bay and J.J. Abrams making shallow but successful movies, we got talentless hacks play the 4-5-1 chord progression to death on radio, and we got games like CoD Ghosts sell like crazy.

In such a world, AC perhaps really is unique and thrilling.

ty. I hope the video shows the strength of SC: the action paced chases and twitch Dogfights.

@Vargur: Ok - when you really want a correct simulation then SC is not for you. But it was never meant to be a real space Simulation, the term space sim might be deceptive. But CR always said he came from Wing Commander and the Star Wars Movies..

E: D also has fictional limitations.

But both games do it for the greater good: the gameplay!

@Voivod & Toumal: sry if you feel this way. I thought a recording would show the strength of SC. I can tell you playing it was intense...

You cant please everybody.

To be honest I dunno what to said,is it some improvement?Hmm yes it is,how much does it feel better?3% overall better than last patch in my opinion just not worth it of the long download....

In short terms my summery of this last patch:
-Long loading screens(nothing new)
-Blur is just annoying and you can't turn it off
-Sounds are just better but they are still lacking a lot from any decent game
-Hangar is more shiny, seems that is less glitches and overall works better
-Better Gfx performance in flight but every time I enter in game my settings are on Max why?
-Controls are less wobbly on the game pad&Joystick, playing it on the mouse feels worse than before you can just feel it that it's done as intentional ++wobble effect for mouse
-Racing reminds me on the racing-games Wave at the end of '90's and beginning of the first 3d games,
-Speed feels more intense then before
-after 10 min.of playing I start 2 ask myself Why do I am doing this when is not fun at all?

You can turn off the stupid motion blur by putting r_MotionBlur = 0 in <path to Star Citizen>\CitizenClient\user.cfg

its intense, but dont you see how aiming sucks? you wobbling around left and right, top and down, around those recticules, its not a smooth manueuver.

im quite sure you had some hard muscles after all those correction needed.

if you look at elite video you see the vast difference, there you hardly wobble but have a smooth go to to the aiming recticules and then actually are able to stay there without to many correction. its just toally different. (and in my eyes just better feeling).
