Yep, I know that was just wondering why it was not in the scale, but RC-Plorer cleared it up.

Ships Scale:

The FPS elements do look impressive, but then that's the CryEngine for you. It's what it does best. Let's hope that it won't be what makes Star Citizen. I don't want to play a highly polished FPS game with a space sim bolted onto it. I prefer it to be the other way round. That is what I pledged for.

And why is it that I keep thinking of Mace Griffin : Bounty Hunter?

Perhaps it's nothing ;)

Is it somehow correct that in the current AC the biggest ships of SC would touch the AC boundaries at both extremities?
He he, just kidding. :D (you see, i have teeth too)

I know your just having fun but actually this patch doubled Arena Commander size!

"The Arena Commander map sizes have been doubled! This means there is a lot more room to engage other players or AI. We plan to increase the map size again once the 64 bit world space engine changes are completed, but for now having double the size will allow for more interesting engagements. "

That Terraformer is indeed huge, but as you might see from the clip below flying a 300i, there's still lots of room to play around :)

Recording makes my framerates jumpy, also the music is live so it glitches sometimes.

Oy! That's not on, using the Blue Danube for Star Citizen, David Braben legitimately pinched that from 2001 :D

The last Arena Commander patch was certainly the best one yet. I bet Chris Roberts will be celebrating when they sort out the 64bit precision.

Just for the fun of it, I tried adding the various Elite ships to the picture you posted, to get a sense of the scale. Scale should be correct, at least if this picture (http://i.imgur.com/9P9Oejk.jpg) is to be believed:

and as an added bonus, here's the same picture with the Coriolis station added (the scale is probably a bit rough since I couldn't find a better pic):

Nice to see the ED ships in there for scale! :)!

You know, everything is so massive in Elite that often times I get tricked by the scaling. I mean just look at that Elite station, when you go to the entrance you'd think it's this tiny little thing, but it can actually fit two Anacondas side by side. The stations are also very massive, but its hard to get the scale of it given that you have nothing to reference it with!

Indeed - you need a known (or at least familiar) reference to really grasp how big things are.

Now I just have to find that post by that guy who said his "Connie" was bigger than all the ships in Elite put together :D

I should probably add that I scaled the coriolis station to be approximately 4 km from corner to opposite corner since I read that the diameter was 4 km, but if its diameter is measured from face to face instead of corner to corner it should actually be about 15% bigger than in the picture

Thanks Troels that image is very informative.

I guess we'll get a real sense of scale when we can walk around our ships.

Im sorry but i backed Chris Roberts vision, not your's thx! :D

So did I, and many others. He was quite explicit about "no freelancer style controls" and having to actually fly your ship.

We backed what was pitched. Not an open check for him to change his mind and decide to dumb things down. Note that the suggestion you dismiss like that actually is the way to create a controller agnostic game, again... as was his "vision".

That is it in a nutshell. The original backers were baited, then switched with no compunction whatsoever.

Controler agnostic was what he said, wing commander & Freelancer controls.

Is it beginner friendly for newbies who have never played a space sim before or is there some knowledge needed? Meaning it is easy to control the ships or does it take a long learning curve? Also are the controls on a keyboard not more difficult than on a gamepad or joystick?
“It will be like Wing Commander & Freelancer. It should be simple to learn the basics and you should have fun flying the early missions and it wont overwhelm you with the "sim" of it all. But once you get comfortable there will be a lot more nuance and detail you can delve into if you so wish. Keyboard is supported but personally I think that would be more difficult than a joystick or mouse (which are also supported)”

Too bad some folks missunderstood him. :)

The game still is a long way from finished, things can only get better!
