Post stolen wholesale from an SA forum user called "Streetroller" which outlines the ridiculousness of the recent changes to CIG's terms of service, by comparing it with that of a AAA game publisher, Electronic Arts (EA)....

(Warning, this post is quite wordy in places.)




And in just one, concise, well structured message, this SA forum user, with a simple example of compare and contrast, has utterly destroyed the attempts by people defending this scandalous TOS re-write to excuse CIG's actions.

Well done Streetroller.

Pure gold especially cause Mr.Streetroller is one of the so called "Whales"of the SC....I hope that he will menaged to get his refund somehow....

How about heavy gear 2 it had a few zero G combat missions (FPS mechs) with full freedom of movement, stealth and any surface you liked could be the floor. The gravity reliant weapons such as the mortar, would still fire in zero G but the projectiles would sail off into the void without gravity to create a parabolic trajectory which I thought was a nice touch.

Welcome this place gets dull when all the pro-SC types get themselves banned (except Rolan who is always a nice guy). There's no bias or evil conspiracy all you have to do is avoid personal attacks and swearing and you can have any (SC related) opinion you like.

Oh btw: this is a link to ALL the things Derek Smart has said about Elite Dangerous. Not as much as the tirade about Star Citizen, yet Elite Dangerous was a more limited project and is trying to slowly add content. Again, not bad just different from Star Citizen.

r/dereksmart seems to me to be a hate sub and pretty much nothing else. It also shares a moderator with the SC grey market. I'm very skeptical of it as an information source as there's a direct financial incentive behind discrediting Dr Smart for the grey market traders.

There's also been talk in there recently about how bad this thread, David Braben, FD and it's moderators are for allowing Derek to have a voice and how best to silence him here.

I don't look at reddit much - as it's basically the unwashed tramp's armpit of the internet. Are there seriously people wanting other people to be silenced on a forum for no good reason other than they don't want to hear a differing opinion, or view things from a different point of view?

You would be surprised. If two thirds of backers have only bought a base package ($45) they will have raised just under $40 million. The remaining one third have spent almost $80 million!

No the actual gem is that you and Derek Smart are so caught up in all of this. Look I am an original backer of both Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen. In fact I seem to remember Chris Roberts congratulating ED and providing a link to ED's home page.

Then there are you people who are following Sandy's tweets and her Facebook, and the Facebook of other actors and directors. All tying in to some wild conspiracy theory about the theft of resources or money. What I don't understand, if Star Citizen is such a con, why have 300 employees? Why have 5 different studios? Why hire real talent for acting? Derek Smart and the majority of the posts here would have someone believe it is all a scam. Didn't Derek say the same thing about Elite Dangerous? Was it a scam?

Why spend all this money if they were actually trying to produce nothing? Now the idea that they might not be able to produce what they have said is different. They have stated that will take time, and honestly, as long as they keep building and adding to the mini-PU I haven't seen any "large" backers or even small backers get very upset. I didn't and I am a large backer.

Also... this whole "evocati" nonsense. I was in a test group over a year ago for the organization module. I had to sign an NDA then. Having a test group prior to PTU release has been common practice since the very beginning. This is a fact, "every single PTU build or module add-on has had a test group... it has just now been named "evocati" "... you can quote me on that. So, there is no drama there. In fact the only real drama seems to be with Derek Smart and the rest of you.

Personally... and thats all I can speak for really... I kinda think that saying CIG will be demolished because of the new release of any other game is silly. ED came out and SC has continued to grow in both backers and funding. Don't get me wrong ED is a great game and I enjoy playing it but it is a different game than SC. Then there is the "threat" posed by other first person shooters. Nope. They are not the same as ED nor SC. Sure they share some traits but that's all.

Also, for some reason people keep saying that SC is a "twitch" game. It is not. In fact Chris Roberts has repeatedly said that he does not want a "twitch" game experience in the first person shooter mode.

And lastly, CIG stated months ago that they were not going to be attending E3. This is nothing new, they did not "pull out", they said they simply did not have the time to spend on it (and it is a huge effort involving major time from several teams) with trying to get Squadron 42 ready. Also last time I checked Sandy is a person and allowed to attend anything she wants. Are you going to start saying she cannot go to movies, conventions, or any other thing simply because she works for CIG? Doesn't that seem more than a bit silly? Also, even if she is going representing CIG and RSI... great! That is her job last time I checked. So she is just doing her job by attending a major gaming advertising event. Where is the problem?

Sigh... look, Star Citizen is a different game than Elite Dangerous. Just as Elite Dangerous is different from Battlefront 2. They share some traits but that is all. There has been a resurgence in space simulation games. That is great. That means people who like to play all these different types of space sim games get a chance because more are being developed. In the end, if we as backers of Star Citizen choose to spend our money on it... why do any of you care? Seriously, it's not like I cannot afford it. Further, no matter how much I spend... if I lost it tomorrow... it's nothing I cannot afford to lose. Even if I did, wouldn't that really be my business? Unless you are a backer of Star Citizen, and a large one (since many $60 or $100 Kickstarter projects fail I really am not going to include minimum backers here) at that I really don't think you have anything to say. I AM a large backer... and I have been around long enough to watch Smart pull these same high jinks time and again when he gets upset at something. I just don't understand why anyone else would even care.

Well at least you gave it a go - welcome to the thread!

I don't think it's an out and out scam - I just think once they realised they'd hit on a seemingly endless money hose they managed to convince themselves that by keeping those sales going and expanding the scope they were guaranteed to make a better game - see "..we'll give you a $ 100 million game.." quotes.

It looks poorly planned and poorly executed from the outside (open development eh?) and now the money seems to be drying up but they're still stuck in a refactoring/re mo-capping nightmare whilst other titles that do similar things are teeing up almost daily and poised to overtake them.

And none of that has anything to do with what we or anyone else say or do.

He recently replied to a question about it during a live stream. He said he was going to buy it and is looking forward to playing it.

What I wonder is, are they talking specifically about this thread or do you think they leak into other parts of E: D forums?

I am saddened actually, these types of people ruin a lot of good faith in every community.

On topic about SC,

Yesterday, I spent quite some time watching a few SC streams on twitch. Most of the community seemed like decent people, judging by the in game chat. They happily murdered each other after accepting offers to crew large ships with their owners. Apparently murdering pilots while walking around behind them is a working mechanic now. Another thing they seemed to enjoy doing in the constellation ships was to walk in front of the pilot and have fun by obscuring their view. before murdering them. The streamers who got murdered by their crew or by certain bugs seemed to take it in good humour and seemed to be having great fun. Especially when their ship clipped through the landing pad surface a little and then launched into a spin, drifting off into the void of space, as they were trying to <<use>> their ships.

Please don't take this the wrong way, I really think they are a fun bunch. You have to be a very decent person with a lot of self control not to smash your stuff in a fit of rage after seeing your ship spin and smash into the station ring for the umpteenth time in the last 10 minutes.

It baffles me that anyone thinks that anything any of us say makes the slightest bit of difference to the state of the game.

The state it's in after over 4.5 years speaks for itself.

And the new ToS speaks volumes for CIG's interpretation of their prospects.
