The Star Citizen Thread v5

Even so, it *should* amaze you that bugs as big and as glaring as the ones shown in the videos have been in the game since the PU was released nearly three years ago!

And actually there ARE some crazy individuals trying to pass off what is shown in Star Citizen as being "release quality", despite the bugs, the lack of gameplay and, as you say, the general generic look of it all.

Ok ok, yes, there are some strange people who are already declaring SC as the best game ever made already, but they are obviously in need of a special jacket and a padded room.

Let me say instead, most sane people are not trying to pass it off as a release yet.

What amazes me isn't the bugs. Bugs happen. And nobody is trying to pass it off as a release yet.

What amazes me is that the PU still simply looks like Generic FPS 101 after all this time.

How else can it possibly look? Obviously CiG is unable to introduce all the cool stuff they showed off in their cinebox editor so far

Did they ever mention why those rings don't rotate anymore?

Silence is the answer ^^

Too funny. I said back when I first heard of Spectrum (or 'Rectum' as I see some wags over on the RSI forums are calling it :D) that it was about 5% to do with any genuine attempt to 'improve the experience' and 95% to do with giving them far greater control over the dissemination of information and I've seen nothing to change my mind since.

This plum over on the RSI forum is typical of the ill-informed shill-meisters who can't wait to get their flags out and have a wave in support of it though:

All you folk crying over the change to specatum [sic] are just.....well. Spectrum you can make posts and reply just like here, it's not like its anything hard or difficult to do.

Fun fact: I just tried and <ahem> Speculum :D won't even open on my work PC, presumably due to some of the scripting it includes. So yeah, I'd suggest that being completely unable to access it from the place I spend eight hours + for five days a week would qualify as 'hard or difficult to do'.

Still not to worry, I see they've announced the fifth annual conference for a game that's still in pre-alpha so that's good. I mean, just think about that for a few seconds...

Not sure if the move to spectrum will be a good or a bad thing with regards to the community participation etc. So far I can see a realtively healthy number of threads responded to per hour in the new platform "General" chapter to be honest, not too dissimilar from the "Dangerous Discussion" subforum here. Obviously here there is a ton of other subforums too, but hey.

With regards to CIG being able to get rid of "evidence" by putting down the forums, it is going to depend if they remain available for browsing/reading after the archiving.

Well, had quite an enjoyable experience in SC last night on the latest 2.6.3 patch! Entered the PU and took on the Covalex mission in my trusty Aurora LN. Flew out to the derelict spaceport and saw a few other ships there. Went inside via EVA and explored while finding/reading the various data pads. Eventually someone showed up and destroyed all the ships including mine, at which point I was trapped at the derelict spaceport. However, once I EVAed out to space, there was a MISC Freelancer there adrift in space. I was able to EVA into the Freelancer, brought the ship under control, and flew it back to Port Olisar where I landed, walked into the station, switched into my port clothes and went shopping. Following, I decided it was time to head out to Yela. So called up the Aurora, donned the flight suit walked out though airlock and up gantry to my ship and disembarked. Upon arrival at Yela, soon came across two derelict MISC Starfarers among the asteroid field. EVAed out of my Aurora and went exploring in and around the large ships. Explored the interiors with my suit torch light and the many corridors and rooms within the ship. Found a few datapads with some detail of past life on the ship along with some weapons in opened glowing crates. Eventually, it was time to head back to Olisar and when I exited one of the ships, there was a 300i sitting out among wreckage of the large ships. As I neared the ship, another Citizen was there, and we did the usual EVA spins, etc... but then I decided to simply enter the ship to take the helm. I entered the 300 and he followed. I took the drivers seat and flew us both back to Olisar.

The "experience" here is that SC truly has it right when it comes to "space legs." Granted its still alpha, but there is real experience there. It was fun, fulfilling, and thrilling to experience and it will be quite interesting if/when 3.0 drops and we have the complete Stanton System. If the fidelity, which currently exists around Crusader and its moons, happens, it will be really worth the large sum of crowdfunding raised!

Oh yea and performance was excellent on my session last night!

That sounds like great fun. Why not record the next session and share it with us? :)

Hmm, such great fun that you can *tell* everybody about just how fun it was.... yet just as has been the case for the last few folks who have made similar comments on this thread, there never seems to be any *visual* evidence to support said claim.

And even *if* what you said actually did happen, what you essentially described was yourself walking around, fly around, picking up a few items, walking some more, shopping a tad, saw another commander behaving like a and destroying ships because they felt like it.... and not much else.

A thoroughly sterile, and unfulfilling experience if you ask me.

I just don't see the appeal in what you described at all.

Also, so many other people are having all sorts of issues with the game crashing/bugging out/etc. I'm glad that you apparently had such a flawless experience, but for many others, that just isn't the case at all.

Agreed, u kind of have to experience it for yourself....

It's good to hear the performance is up to scratch. I enjoyed watching that pistol duel video. I'd be more than happy to see similar clips on this thread.

If you do decide to post evidence of your fun here please don't make the clip too long.

+1 I would love to see something nice and working for a change. Youtube is filled with bugs and glitches and overall crappy gameplay. Just share the awesome fun ^^

The working build is a little like the Loch Ness monster, loads of people claim to see it but everyone else is distracted by bee's or they left the lens-cap on or something.

Well, I am simply stating the experience I had last night, period. IF you have the game (get in for the starter pack at $45) and that is all you need. The KEY to my experience last night was flying other ships which I do not own. For example, I saw a Freelancer adrift outside Covalex after someone destroyed my ship, and I was able to commandeer the Freelancer, and fly myself back to Olisar. I have never been in a Freelancer before, and I was able to enter it, walk around, explore it, check out the various spaces on the ship including seats, and take the helm. Similar with the 300i... I never flew one before, or seen the interior, but last night, I saw one, EVAed to it, entered the ship, and experienced it! THAT is what makes SC quite frankly, the best experience going right now. The icing on the cake was the derelict Starfarers... I have never seen that before, and not only is the wreckage there, but you can EVA and explore both around and INSIDE the wrecks! Very cool!

There is no "fake news" in what I report, I am simply a dude that has the game (Aurora owner only), and fired it up following the v2.6.3 patch released this weekend. I could do a Twitch stream/record to "show" you all, but tonight, would likely not be like last night. Plus, as others noted, u really have to experience it yourself...
