Wait for a free-play weekend, and if you can manage to even download it in time, see what you think then.

However, if you're in it for the space flight - I wouldn't bother - the flight model is FPS in space and is quite frankly, awful.

Artemus,

In fact the pump handle goes both forwards and backwards in any pump action, otherwise the action would not return to the same place and after 3 or 4 rounds would exit through your upper arm, chest or shoulder, Or be out of reach forwards.
You can get shotguns that pump forwards first and some that pump rearwards first.
Personally I prefer semi auto shotguns.
Some shooters say that they pump the gun with the trigger hand whilst keeping the most forward supporting hand still as it improves there ability to keep the muzzle on target.

I'm interested by your post as most pumps I have used do pump backwards first, maybe it is our age or location.

I watched the video and can not see the cartridge ejected, I presume that it is ejecting downwards. I hope they explain the mechanism as I only ever used one like that. It was a Dutch or German combat shotgun, it pumped forward first as I recall, It was very short and was for building clearance rather than game shooting.

You are completely correct. On a standard pump action shotgun the handle goes backward to open the action to either eject a shell, load a Shell. Or do both. Then pushing the handle forward closes the action and chambers the shell.

What's weird with cigs shotgun is the pump handle is pushed forward, then backwards. This tells me either the pump handle is attached to the barrel, or it could be a chain/pully system*. I'd be highly interested in seeing how/or if the gun ejects a spent shell.

Admittedly this is getting way to deep into a video game to where you've got nerds mumbling over weapons.

Almighty Bob, could you pm me the German or dutch shotgun name if you remember it?

*a normal pump action shotgun has the pump handle attached to the bolt or bolt carrier group, pulling rearwards disingages the bolt from the barrel/chamber and pulls the spent shell from the chamber with it. While it readies a new shell from the magazine tube. On the forward push of the pump handle it loads the readied shell into the chamber and locks the bolt into place.

I hope I am not stepping in it here but I was considering (but not without a LOT of thought) buying SC in addition to E D. No I do not have money flowing out of my thrusters and I still (at lest I haven't been playing E D long enough to dislike anything yet) love playing E D.

So go back over your notes and let me know (with facts please) why I should or should not buy it. I will say off the bat that I am o Lyn interested in the space flight portion and not the arcade marines section.

Best not listen to other people's opinions. We are all opinionated fools.

Educate yourself, and decide for yourself.

god I saw the title from Rolans post and was thinking "WHOA, okay maybe they do have something at least previous promo demos were well made and suggested theres more to it then just a ponzi scheme"

2 people standing around in what looks to be a regular PU capture with a red flashing warning message. Everything looks pretty bland and boring, then theres a flash outside and before you can even see....I dont know.....shapes or anything the footage ends. Is this supposed to be a hype event? Am I lined to the wrong video maybe? WHERE IS THE COOL STUFF? Anything that could convince me that CiG is actually trying to tackle the problems and making progress? This video looks like its from 10 years ago and doesnt show anything that would make my giggly in anticipation. Am I too hard? Whats your impression of this snippet of the Vanduul attack?

It has the feeling of a "mind the gap, fast train approaching" announcement at a station.

I don't know if they are trying to ape Elite's ruddy mysterious alien encounters for some press? If so, it kind of fails due to the large sign saying "Vanduul fleet incoming" which doesn't really work and eliminates any kind of mystery.

If it's going to be in 3.0 or any upcoming build I'd be curious to know what happens to any player ships located near or within the spawning aliens? Do they simply blow up? Somehow I doubt we'll know as whenever these questions start to arise the footage is nothing more than a non-playable demo designed for a show and sale.

…also, if I may be so bold and unconventional, wait until it's released before you buy.

+1 for this as I said on the last page in what's possibly the only post I made in this thread worth reading.

Also Friday trivia for anyone who didn't know: Will Robinson from Lost in Space = Lennier from Babylon 5.

Hah, I love this stuff. I used to be fascinated with explanations of the actions of weapons like the AK-47 and wonder at their cleverness. (Back in the pre-web days when simple animations weren't possible so they had to be hand-drawn in stages in magazines).

The thing I find odd about a "push pump handle" shotgun is - wouldn't you tend to push the handle forwards when firing, due to recoil?

I would echo this. Try on a free fly but there really is no incentive to buy now.
you assume all the risk, the TOS are terrible, they have no real timeline, their progress vs list of features is gaping. I believe the chance of a finished as advertised product to be highly unlikely given how deep into it they are. This is a super high risk "investment" with absolutely zero reward and 100% risk.

just my opinion. It also plays nothing like elite who's controls and FM are butter smooth.

Somewhat, but there will be locking mechanisms in place to keep that to a minimum. Also, the dirty secret of shotguns is that once you know how to handle them, they're quite controllable. It's not something you'd want to do under ordinary circumstances, but it's entirely possible for your average person to fire one — accurately — one-handed, for instance. In fact, the problem with trying that isn't the recoil, but actually being able to raise and extend the weapon outwards to begin with (they tend to be on the heavy side and the law of the lever is never kind).

Don't have a look at babylon 5 where are they now, they've been dropping like flies it's like the show was cursed.

nah, it was just one of the few shows that actually had a cast of realistic ages. Not a bunch of 20 somethings who run the universe.

someone pointed this out in the SA thread.

So 5.5 years into development and 400+ employee's and the "GAME PROGRAMMING TEAM" has only just now grown to 3.

"The game programming team in Frankfurt has grown over the past few months, the team is currently at 3 people, one lead and two others.

This month they did a pass on improving the functionality of doors"

Low-resolution height maps will do that to you. Time to (re)invent the voxels!

…this suggestion may or may not have been influenced by noticing that the Delta Force games were on sale, and deciding against it for too many reasons to enumerate. But at least the terrain was neat.

voxels can look pretty nowadays, see planet coaster landscapes or EverQuest Next and EverQuest Next: Landmark,.
