Well it's a slippery slope fallacy. ED alpha was in a better state than SC alpha. This is the point.
That's a horrible point.

Monk said this isn't a war. So prove it. (It isn't for me.)

Because it doesn't matter to me what game is in better shape in development. Heck, it doesn't even matter to me if ED is always more fun than SC, as long as SC turns out to be fun in it's own way.

Because you said this:

"Remember what I said about ED getting a pass and not SC? Why does ED get to use the term 'for and alpha', but not SC?"

Explaining that ED alpha was in a better state addressed this point. You're now moving the goalposts.

Try looking at it frame by frame rather than just saying you did and wishing that this will change what's in the video.

True, there's a two frame crossfade there. On the other hand, the first frame of it removes the double image effect that was there leading up to it. I think it's a stream artefact or something caused by the gif-maker maybe?
I'm not sure why he'd have looked down at his feet at that moment, faster than the stream's framerate, it's probably a glitch.

No. That does not address that. ED being in a 'better' state during development does not take away SC's ability to use the 'for an alpha' clause.

It seems a little odd that before that glitch the player shadow is static, and afterwards it is clearly dynamic. Did you have a look at the video Ben? It does look a little suspicious.

Gee whiz. You evangelists are like a broken record! Something substantial please.

Here's a hint. You're going to have to erase my memory of the Spinning Sidewinder of Infinity in order for me to believe you.
Compared to the nonsense SC has produced in its not-actual-alpha, that memory is pretty much an example of flawless release quality.

So whenever the “but it's alpha” argument is dragged out, it doesn't actually help because even on those terms, SC is a horrible mess.

What kind of glitches give you a stock dissolve transition? I haven't encountered any of those while editing and doing live production for ages. It just looks like someone triggered a wipe on the mix. Insert cry of "Jareeeeed!" here.

Come on guys, what do you make of this?

Not sure about the shadows, might that just be down to one being a defined shadow and another being being blury? Some of the other bits look dodgy bit I'm no expert. Ultimately I'll assume there's nothing dodgy until someone who knows their shnizzle takes a look.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Geeze. I'm used to donning a flame resistant suit when venturing into this thread, but now it seems I need a tinfoil hat as well.

Agreed.

If Star Citizen releases with it's projected features (or even if some features take time) I'll be happy and re-buy it for myself.

Now lets get back to the game before the mods come back :)

Remember, Ben doesn't make the videos, setup demos or do any of the marketing. His opinion will be based on what he can see and knows about programming games(and to some extent, what he can say) as I doubt he had much to do with the presentation at Gamescom other than the code he's responsible for.

Ben, is it possible there could be some graphical fidelity transitions between some boundaries we aren't aware of?

Time to see who the warriors are.....

Sorry Monk. You gave it your best shot...

I haven't tried to do that. And SC isn't unplayable.

You didn't try to, but Briguy did.

"alpha....ALPHA!!! Don't know how many times it has to be said. Let's wait until it's fully released before calling it a janky mess, shall we? I mean I remember Elite being a janky mess in it's alpha. I remember the npc ai going hog wild with the engineers and power play being janky when it first released."

Interesting how he isn't actually addressing the argument anymore, though I wouldn't blame him for leaving.
