I think you can use all the ships in the free fly weekends though?
Only the on "free fly weekends" which provide access to all ships (there have been exactly two of those weekends). Though it's still super cumbersome to try them all out, because you can't just walk around them in the hangar and fly them off.

Ok, this is the thing that upsets me most. They intentionally go for worse/less feedback from testing?
Nobody cares about feedback from testing, that's why access to test builds is restricted to monthly subscribers now.

In SC Alpha i cannot even get the other ships in game, i have to buy them for ridiculous amounts of real money. So, what is the motivation behind that?
It is called pay to win and selling concept JPEGs. Or Chris Roberts' business model.

I pledged $60 four years ago and i cannot even access all of the little content that has been implemented so far?
Indeed and you won't be able to access it in the future. I backed on day one and I got myself a refund last year, because this "alpha testing" has been very underwhelming content-wise.

Ok, this is the thing that upsets me most. They intentionally go for worse/less feedback from testing? In ED betas it is common practice to have all ships available for everyone at very low price so that all combinations get tested. In SC Alpha i cannot even get the other ships in game, i have to buy them for ridiculous amounts of real money. So, what is the motivation behind that? (Not a rhetorical question, i hope there is a reason that doesn't make cig look greedy.) I pledged $60 four years ago and i cannot even access all of the little content that has been implemented so far? Even worse, it doesn't look like SC mvp will be ready before 2018.
Now that all the furor is over I think it's safe to post again. Reminded me of a Katamari dump. There is a few things wrong with this post. I tested ED from beta through release. Yes prices were very low. The problem was you could only make money by trading. Bounty hunting and exploration just didn't pay. The grind just to get the Cobra Mk 3 almost made me quit. I'm glad I didnt. In SC last year you could easily make REC to rent available ships. We don't know how easily aUEC can be earned but I suspect they will follow the same path once the ship store is in the game. Some will think CIG will never undercut their own sales by doing this. I believe they will because progress will get wiped regularly. We will just have to wait and see. Some things from the monthly report that is interesting.

They mentioned more work being done on Nyx. They are also working on a pirate base (not Nyx) for the BPU.

QA had the hands on a rough build of an entire solar system with planetary flight. The wording for landing was a little dodgy so that may not be finished. They mentioned flying through a bland environment including through canyons in an M50.

Work on a shop to sell equipment so we can start customising our ships with aUEC.

It looks like work is still ongoing for SC and has not stopped because of S42. I hope to see some of this by the end of summer.

I'm not speculating about the final game but i was commenting on the alpha.

Just the ships you've bought.
Clothes shopping is more important than having access to all ships without spending real cash ;)

That's not quite right.
You can rent ships with REC and use them in AC
I'm not sure if you can do that in PU though, never tried it myself

And clothes is not "more important", its just easier to test the persistance than ships, because, you know... they are simpler

Okay what about it was simple..when they needed 6 MONTHS after 2.0 to get the first iteration of persistence into the game in the from of clothing....and completly broke everything else in the game to hilarious amounts.

Waht are REC and why did i need the. How many currencies are there in SC anyway?

I know what you are getting at but I was referring to a studio report on an internal alpha build. If you believe the report or not is not relevant. I'm just passing on some interesting information on the report itself. Only time will tell if thsee become true or not.

That's really not my point. It just looks loike they actually create an incentive not to release the game and just sell ships for the alpha exclusivity. Because, what else is the point to restrict access by a paywall for TESTING PURPOSES?

It's basically "points" you can earn by shooting stuff in their "space combat" mini-techdemo. It allows you to try out one of a few selected small ships after grinding for multiple days, but you have only access for a few days. If you want to keep them permanently the only way is to buy them with real money.

It's basically the same thing every P2W game does, which is usually called the F2P (free to play) part, except that you paid $60 in advance to access it and real F2P-grinders allow you to keep your items .

You could also view "Star Citizen 2.0" as the released "game", CIG assumes the same position to refuse refunds. They do their testing internally.

I mean, we are 18 months past the release date. If a student does a test/exam and runs out of time, we take his paper and simply assume that this is his finished work. He might call it "alpha" or "try-out", but this isn't going to change his mark. If he doesn't show up (to E3), he gets an F.

You are here justo to troll, right?

REC can be used to buy almost all of the small ships that were currently in "flight ready" status for one week.
The purpose is for you to test it and if you like, you can melt your current ship and buy another one permanently.
And you dont need to grind for days, you just need to play a open match normally for couple hours and you will probably end up with enough REC to test any ship you want

Only if you believe buying virtual space ships at $xxx is a perfectly normal thing to do.

BTW: To "melt" anything, you need to have spent ridiculous amounts of money in the first place, which neither I nor the poster I answered ever did.

And you dont need to grind for days, you just need to play a open match normally for couple hours
But normal people have a regular life too, so they are not going to spend "couple hours" at once inside a boring space-turret shooter with a broken starter ship just for "testing".

Might be better for the game of ping pong if someone could bring proper figures like:

You can use earned REC to test ships list A,B,C. You cannot try ships L,M and N... They cost eleventy REC to hire for a week. It takes about 1 hour to earn twelvety REC.

Beyond that, this side arc simply devolves into "I'm Spartacus!"

Only if the server actually logs the "earned" REC (half the time it doesn't) and the client doesn't crash.

Last year I wasted one entire weekend on that AC grinding, just so I could try out Crusader with a non-broken vessel and it was a completely unfun experience.

So there is a currency in the alpha that has no obvious purpose for the final game (so it's implementation is wasted time) but it's only function is to let players have a peek at what ships can be bought with real world money (humongous sums). And you say this is perfectly normal for an alpha which is supposed to be a test environment. Nothing unusual? Or is this the part where actual trailbazing has actually happend?

Whoops. Misunderstood your message.

There is no paywall for alpha testing. 2.4 has not been released to alpha backers yet.

20 minutes of continuous Alpha PTU 2.4 footage:

Looks like they've come a long way in addressing some of the major bugs that affected earlier builds.
