The Star Citizen Thread v5

Now who wants to talk about another subject, say 3D modelling isn't it wonderful.

I'll bite. It isn't wonderful if one's first "big" 3D software was trueSpace. :D My god that thing was backwards! Thankfully, I switched to Cinema 4D long ago.

Speaking of 3D modeling, how does one go around to export models from Star Citizen nowadays? I managed to get the Hornet and 300i a year or two ago.

Hmm... Now this IS an interesting development.....

So, claiming that the artwork was created entirely by themselves, showcasing it on AtV no less, straight from the mouth of Sandi herself...

Over to you Spacefort. :)

Not going to lie, 'created' is a far cry from 'ENTIRELY BY HIMSELF'. She did indeed comment on the quality of his work, though your choice words are suspiciously absent from the video clip, beyond 'created'.

Not sure, never tried. I know it's possible though, a few models have been drifting around.

As for those impatient for my picture, you can keep waiting. I'm still looking for the means to upload without registering. I'm not unfamiliar with Imgur, so much as I've simply never posted anything there, because lurking is better.

The implication is that the artist managed to make Sandi "look good" as she herself said, which would point to talking about the *whole* image, including the horrid PShop photo model with Sandi's head slapped onto it.

But ya know, I guess this is just a nothing issue, and CiG have done nothing wrong (in your eyes), so let's just bury it under all the other gaffes and mistakes currently piling up in the increasingly crowded basement at CiG headquarters. :)

1. Make sure you are logged out of imgur.com
2. There is a button at the top of http://imgur.com/ that says "upload images". click it.
3. then a overlay appear with several icons. one says "browse your computer". click it
4. select the file you want to upload on your computer
5. the image is listed in that overlay dialog. now click the green "start upload" text.
6. wait for the upload to be complete. you are automatically forwarded to the site with the uploaded image. copy&paste the url here

Give me a moment, I'm looking to see if there's an option to post it up here.

EDIT: Nope, I can't seem to attach it. Keeps listing as an 'invalid file'.

Guess that's why I don't do the texturing, probably uploaded it in the wrong format.

No worries.

This has more twists than an M. Night movie marathon. And less logic than a broken videotape of Eraserhead being played in reverse.

Thanks. I'll jump on it.

That's some pretty heavy reaching there. I could say that I created an ice-cream cone and 'made it look good' by adding sprinkles, doesn't mean I didn't scoop it out of a bucket rather than make it from scratch.

Guys lets not keep beating that dress horse, its dead. Anyone with just two brain cells can see what is going on here.
Some people here say it okay to do this even when you are making big bucks on it, others don't including this old dog.

Moving on.

Anyone know how to import 3D assets from Sc or ED into Cinema 4D? My Son have this software and I would like to see some of the models
from both games together, that would be cool.

If you could write top 3 reasons why SC is a disappointment to you, what would they be ?

I'll start:

1. Nothing like Freelancer, yet it is
2. Controller imbalance
3. Flight model that sucks

1.Star Marine the gameplay videos truly looked nice at the time and it was only 3 weeks away back in march 2015
2. SQ42 was said to be ready before arena commander yet its nowhere to be seen.
3. Star Citizen the massive multiplayer mode cant even support 16 players without bugging out.

What the hell happened star citizen?

You'd hope someone who has been intimately involved with doing exactly such mockups with copyright images daily for years would stop them, but.....

My disappointments started when it went mo-cap and live action stuff - until then I'd kinda managed to suspend some disbelief and I quite liked the idea of what they were doing. I was imagining much more of it would be non-voluntary walking around scripted sequences rather than trying to expect players to 'behave' and something really interesting and different in how you interacted with the world

We've seen how well stories can be told in engine plenty now, and there are a load of great examples of ways to interact with a 3d world in a very tactile way amongst the zillion puzzlers and little games - but we got USE :( that was when I panicked as it just screamed "this engine not meant for this!!!" - that interaction needed to be sorted right at the beginning so the world could be designed around it.

Thanks. I'll jump on it.

Nah, the only "reaching" I'm doing is for the sick bag every time I watch anything like an Around The Verse or any number of the insipid self-promotional shows that CiG do which are 95% fluff, more upcoming ship sales and gobbledegook with lots of the worst project management "speak" one could imagine, and, maybe 5% actual stuff to do with the game in question.

Also, it's been very illuminating to see the sudden attack that seems to being aimed at FDev for having an off-topic forum that is discussing Star Citizen in the last few days. Talking about them aiding and abetting in a campaign of "hate" against a rival developer because a largely failed dev himself has decided to post here.... Strange how that's all come together like that. I swear the Star Citizen discussion forum had never seen this amount of attempted disruption in, like, ever.

1. Flight and combat is beyond awful. It feels like noclip mode in an FPS. It is flat out not fun and is neither arcadey in the way that Freelancer was or anything close to the realistic physics Chris Roberts was talking about.
2. The engine appears to be fundamentally broken. Constant clipping issues, physics glitches and utter weirdness abounds and I cannot see how they have a hope in hell of fixing it any time soon. I don't want to even think about what a mess the networking code must be. ("It's an alpha" is not an excuse.)
3. Audio and art direction is a disaster. Flying a ship subjects you to a bombardment of tedious audio effects which are not helpful, pleasing to hear or even consistent. The art is grey grey grey cookie cutter sci-fi. Most of the ships look like something a ten year old would draw if you asked him to make a cool spaceship.

It fails on the basics, even before you get onto the FPS and the bajillion other things that have been promised.

I found this funny.....:D:D:D
Sorry to be a downer but I'm not sure we should start photoshopping - or encouraging it. While potentially hilarious it will rapidly descend into inappropriate places.

There's enough shame in it already.

Star Citizens need help from Frontier Developments
having not really cared one way or the other before my respect for dsmart has gone up precisely because he's left the thread and not posted since that nonsense started. much more gracious than this campaign. I don't think we're sending anyone over there to snipe - are we?

I actually have a membership on the forum, but saw what happened to people who asked some of the questions I wanted to ask so never posted

Well mods didn't allowed ....maybe Jim Martin did that one 2..:)

A very visible case in point.
