This whole thread is just a lame attempt to advertise SC on the Elite Forums.
I wouldnt be suprised if Chirs Roberts started it under a fake name.

I wonder if theres an Elite Dangerous thread on the SC forums? Does anyone know?

There is, or was don't know the current status, however its behind a pay wall.

They've taken 120 million out of the funding market for well made space flight games and are blowing a large percentage of the funding on Hollywood mo-cap when decent voice actors would have been just as good.

Hope that helps.

have you seen the screenshots?

they ran out of money for the kilrathi suits and this is what they ended up with

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/yjpJ4qdK3Ek/maxresdefault.jpg

turns out some idiot made a typo when they said "we should get Gary Coleman in to play a role" and now Gary Oldman has got most of the budget and so now this is what they have left ***

***I may be making this up ;)

PS I backed this game as well as ED, so not hating on the game at all, I reckon when it all comes through the pipe it will be a solid title.

I don't feel sorry for CIG, that's just a company. I do feel sorry for everyone who's put in years of work on this game though. I would much prefer that they had a good game to show us at Gamescon, or at least some good progress toward one. They haven't though and it's very sad.

While I suspect the showing will be underwhelming, today is just press day at Gamescom...everyone will be doing their big reveals over the next few days. Who knows, maybe we are all a bunch of jerks and CIG/RSI has just been downplaying a huge surprise...doubtful

I was slightly apprehensive about ditching my backer status and maybe them showing off something amazing at this.

I was being silly though obviously. It's still garbage. Very expensive garbage.

So my take away watching the live stream...they have nothing to talk about. They don't have a dedicated server, so when they try the PTU its laggy and crashes. The vanduul swarm has crashed on them. And right now they are in the hangar module looking at ships...

I did hear that they are going to show case 2.5 later in the week. But otherwise there isn't anything here of substance.

Supposedly there will be little news until Friday.

Tomorrow they will play the PTU, confirmed by Lando.
Key points of today
  • [Will there be DirectX 12 or Vulkan support?] They are investigating future-proofing with DirectX and Vulkan – undecided whether they will go with one or both.
  • [Will we see anything regarding Star Marine?] They will not be showcasing Star Marine during the five-days stream on the showfloor. It is on track for 2.6. This doesn’t rule out it appearing on the Friday night party.
  • Disco has just shown off the PC Guru magazine front cover that has a photo of Mark Hamill in-game on it.
  • The Starmap is NOT complete. There are systems that have not been discovered and are not on the Starmap.

They are showing stuff to the press in a separate booth

...so they have something to show but there is no info about it ...yet.

:(

Here, a compare and contrast between CIG's booth here at Gamescom and a selection of some of the other developers at the same venue...

First, CIG's Star Citizen booth.

Then we've got EA Sports booth.

Blizzard's stand, with some natty statuettes

Motiga Games and their game Gigantic

Gears Of War 4 booth

And lastly, Gwent's booth, yes that's right, Gwent has a better, more open and impressive booth than a $118 million dollar, crowdfunded "AAA" title.

That's the best that CIG could do? I thought they were going to have a fully constructed Idris bridge built and such here at Gamescom.....

And to top it all off, the livestream showcased exactly 0% new content, but DID showcase each modules propensity for crashing, bugginess and a lot of not very exciting stuff happening.

Wow. And there is another 4 more days of this?!

We just don't understand gamescon development. All they need to do is flick a switch. It's at a very early stage of development and its all procedurally generated. Percieved crashes are simply our testing phase in open development. CIG are doing new and innovative things that nobody else has done before at gamescon - you just have to believe in the dream. The levels of fidelity are near real-life. Buy an Idris.

Showcasing 2.5, when the game is running abysmally and lags horribly on any sort of external online connectivity, without dedicated servers, along with the fact that it's even BUGGIER and crash-prone than 2.4.1 is.... Nope, nothing bad can happen at all. Everything will be FINE.

You'd think that if all they had a secret development build they'd take THIS OPPORTUNITY to show it off.

But no, they don't, and the subreddit will bend over backwards to explain that they really do but there are reasons there's EXACTLY ZERO evidence for it and moreover,

Well I bet that they will show something from SQ42 as this is the only part of the game where I believe that CIG making any progress......then again it´s CIG they fail&lied so many times so who knows....

Hmm maybe, but I don't think it'd be more than an insubstantial teaser, maybe a shot of Mark Hamill's face or something

e: the great thing is, if I'm wrong and they do show something substantial, it'll be a source of comedy anyway
