I'm not surprised at all about this, cheats in a multiplayer game are about as surprising as death and taxes. What I'm curious about is what CIG will do; they're based in the USA instead of europe, so like Blizzard they have a lot more legal freedom to deal with cheats. It will be interesting to see what happens to ED if CIG drops the banhammer on the lousy lot. Will we have to put up with all the kicked out SC cheats coming over? So far it looks like the only punishable offense is CLogging.

300 series is a lot of fun to fly, and they look cool too. :)

Be aware they have some serious clipping issues though, don't buy one if you're planning to do any EVA.

They'll just get hit with MOAR banhammers - from FD and other players who refuse to waste their time with such numpties :D

You mean like all the dozens of banned cheats we hear about? There is a new batch of shield hacks people are seeing (unsurprising since cheats vs anticheats is a never ending escalation), and so far FDev has only punished the most egregious combat loggers. I suspect their lawyer finally found a loophole in the EU consumer protection law that allows them to punish cloggers, but for all other kinds of cheat we're basically stuck with them.

Well - I don't pretend to know exactly how FD go about swinging their banhammer - but it's not hard to identify a blatant cheater and erm, urm, do a Genuine Roberts wavey hand thing :D

That is my #1 beef with ED - everything else FDev do I can forgive because they're clearly noobs at the whole MMO gig: wild nerf/buff swings, complete inability to predict that PvP combat would not be "rare and meaningful" instead of common and senseless, etc etc. But FDev's ban hammer is the kind that's brightly colored and makes a squeaky sound, and as a result cheats walk around like they own the place.

Edit: and before anyone accuses me of being a fanboy: I predict SC will be a similar trainwreck when it comes to balancing and other MMO mechanics: Chris Roberts has the same extensive MMO experience as David Braben, and CR is a well-known micromanager so it's not hard to see how that's going to end up.

The good thing is...

Every player is able to ignore every player they dont like or is cheating.
The next thing because of the lack of player impact on ingame econemy even super money cheats or exploits dont have any major inpact...like inflated prices for ships/weapons/goods.

So in a sense even if FD isnt able to hunt or prevent the cheating wich is never doable...the impact is really small and people can deal with it themself. So i am not really concerned about cheaters ruining my day everytime i log in.

To be fair, Fdev can hardly wield a giant mallet-o-doom until they nail down some of the bugs. It must be hard to pick out the combat loggers, for instance, when you get random disconnects as well. A squeaky hammer of mild irritatation is probably as good as it's going to get for now.

Happy new year everyone, from a rather hungover NZ. [ugh]

Does anyone have the 300i series? I'm looking at the 315P explorer. I love the look of it. I built something similar in KSP to fly too.

I have 315P......love the look and the ship capacity to become Explorer if that going to happens at all.....also is very fast&nimble ship so aint bad at all in possible dogfighting.......
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!!!

Relax....

It's only 4:13 PM there - Genuine Roberts is working hard at coding will personally deliver it to all the backers just before midnight :D

Ahem 2.3 ("fall 2016") and 2.4 ("winter 2016"). People who live in glass houses should not throw stones...

Eh, it looks amazing but it drifts like an FDS, the guns overheat and you can't enter it after an EVA because of clipping issues. CIG says the 300 series is going to be reworked soon (tm), I hope they fix those.

Yeah, FDev had decency of announcing the release dates will change few months before that happened, with short explanation why did that happen, while CIG has announced the 3.0 before a large sale, reaped the rewards and then said nothing about it, even when it was clear they weren't going to meet the target. So, to correct/butcher an analogy - people who live in houses with large windows shouldn't throw sand?
Edit: Nice whataboutism, by the way.

The point of discussion was that 3.0 was going to be delayed, not CIG's milk... er business practices. We should not give FDev a free pass just because the other guy sucks too.

I bring it up specifically because I see this sort of thing all the time - ignore bad thing my favorite team is doing, look at the bad stuff those other guys are doing. FDev is about to enter their third year with ED as a fully released title, release slips of months should not be happening and we should call them out if we really care about the game.

True enough. It's just that we have an entire forum for not giving FDev a free pass, and this thread for doing the same to CIG. :D

Erm - it doesn't stack at all, because "thousand dollar spaceships" is 2 completely different topics. I don't have a thousand dollar spaceship in SC...

No the issue is (as Vidar Snipes expanded on) cheats in games also incude money exploits, imagine a game with a real world cash value assigned to ships. Now imagine gold farmers poopsocking cash exploits that are lucrative but not against the rules and as such unbannable. Now imagine what happens to the grey market when they sell the same ships at a fraction of the current prices.

The ship market grey and CIG run can't survive release.

SC's ship prices have always looked insane to me, mostly because I understand the actual monetary value of a AAA game and I am familiar with the monetary disparity between developed nations and countries where the income from gold farming in SC would vastly outweigh the average wage.

This will go wrong in a spectacular way if the game ever makes release, the prices are unsustainable.

Already modded out. But ironic that TOS allows personal attacks on Chris and his wife, but won't allow a video showing a shield hack in Elite. ;)

They set themselves up as "celebrities" saving PC gaming through Star Citizen, scrutiny comes with the territory. If they don't like it they should either stop plastering themselves all over everything or try to make a few less ludicrous public errors.
