"The Stones"

Did the megaship logs mention an actual Thargoid? I’m just curious because it sounds like the thing recovered is a Thargoid Probe or Artefact. The crash site sounds like the one that everyone goes to to get Thargoid artifacts. Do Thargoid artifacts destroy Thargoid ships as well? I’m seeing a pattern of crashes Thargoid ships with the artifacts being found in close proximity. Why would their own technology damage them?

Update: as expected, there is nothing out of the ordinary in either of those two HIP systems towards Barnard's Loop.

Which means we need to figure out what system draws a 370LY line from Chukchan, in the direction of the Loop, passing by those two systems.

Unfortunately this is beyond my ability.

I'm out that way now, just arrived around 375LY from Chukchan. Do we think I try and focus on K stars, per the ghost log? There's a LOT of stuff sitting out here, and not much to go on. A K star with 11 bodies is a lot more to go on than "literally any star", but I'm also not entirely certain what's out here is the same system mentioned in the log.

It says that the ship arrived in Chukchan because the auto-pilot sent it back to where it first came from. But didn't the Adamastor pick up the geologist team from Musca Dark Region PJ-P B6-1? So should we not be looking at a route that is 370LY from that system that passes HIP 39748 and HIP 33386?

That's a good shout too, either one is worth a shot tbh

Actually hold on a minute, the distance to the Coalsack precludes that doesn't it?

If you get in front of the Hackable Data Transmitter in the Ghost ship you will hear a sound transmission. Can anyone decode it?

That's definitely a possibility - the problem is the Coalsack is already several hundred LY from either of those HIP systems, and there's no straight-line route that would hit all 3. Chukchan is the only system named so far that has a straight shot through both HIP 39748 and 33386, and it also happens to point straight at Barnard's Loop.

Ahh makes sense - I'm not in game right now so wasn't able to check the distances :D

I love this stuff in game as well, even though I dont participate directly its great to read through the community efforts. This time I am enroute home from ETA Carina on a short exploration trip so I may see if I have time to detour through Coalsacks, not far out of my way and would be nice to see these sites.

Assuming a straight line between Chukchan and the first HIP, and a K Class, then I make it somewhere in the vicinity of Synuefe XE-Y C17-1. Haven’t done a comparison with a straight line through the 2nd HIP though.

Edit - also assuming no contingency in the fuel.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but HIP 39748 is more then 370 ly away from Musca Dark Region PJ-P B6-1. (according to Route Planner on EDSM it is 437.05ly)
The distance from HIP 39748 to HIP 33386 is 90.11ly, so do we need to see what kind of system with a K star and 11 planets is within a range between 67,05 and 90.11ly between HIP 39748 and Musca Dark Region PJ-P B6-1?

That's where I'm poking around right now. I've got Synuefe XE-Y C17-12 at 369LY and C17-11 at 370.8LY and have been popping around to all the closest K stars. So far I've found one system with 11 bodies, but none were landable or had anything of interest with a surface scan.

Been searching for the system with the metal body and a single M Star, so far I've checked the following systems:

I'll probably refly through them again for metal planets instead of checking them on system map. Looks can be deceiving.
