The Sun Bear disrespect has got to stop!

I have no problem with the sun bear in and of itself. It's more the opportunity cost of the sun bear that I'm not so keen on. The time and resources spent on the sun bear could easily be spent on something I'm much more fond of, even something else that's relatively similar to existing species. I could probably come up with a solid two or three full DLC packs' worth of animals from southeast Asia, or arboreal animals, or carnivores, or whatever the theme ends up being before I'd include the sun bear. And again, I want to stress, I have nothing against sun bears. I think they're pretty neat. I just think there's other neater animals out there.

Aaaaand I also think I'd be much more open to them if we didn't already have the Himalayan brown bear. Not gonna lie.
Yea the Himalayan bear made a lot of people against more bears.. the bias isn’t there with big cats though... people all over the forum (me included) want leopards even after adding the jaguar and having two tigers in the game and the leopard is way less unique than the sun bear is from other bears I guess it’s all perception

I can’t wait for sun bears and for me it’s 100% we would get them it’s just the matter of when. People are very different and we would never please everyone. There are people who always complain about everything and there are people who see possible positives in every rock and plant. And that just fine. I personally wouldn’t complain about Himalayan bear or Arctic wolf. I would probably make different choices but since we already got it what is the point of whining?
If you don’t like any of the animals just don’t use them in the game and that’s it. Right now with the aquatic DLC the animal choice is so diverse in the game that we really should not complain. And it was not the last dlc so we still have something we could wait for.
Will we ever get our most desired animals? I have no idea but everyone needs to admit that what we already have in the game is quite amazing.

That is true I always prefer the optimistic mindset. I understand that the negativity comes from limited spots however, but if that wasn’t an issue I think way more people would be happy with the roster

Sun Bears are one of those animals that I can comfortably implement into an Asia section, like at Taronga Zoo in Sydney, in its Asia and Rainforest Trail precinct, you have animals like the Sun Bear, also Sumatran Tigers, Indian Elephants, Fishing Cats, Southern White-Cheeked Gibbon, Bongo, Pygmy Hippo, Nicobar and Bleeding-Heart Pigeons, Red Lory, Binturong, Asian Small-Clawed Otter (one I really want to see), and my beloved Red Panda. Anyway, Sun Bears are a 100% yes to me

Yea the fact that they’re a tropical bear species is for sure a plus to me as well!

Not against a sun bear, as I can certainly use a tropical bear species. However there are no leopards in the game so not sure why the reference. Any leopard added to the game would be completely unique as far as big cats. There is nothing like them in the game currently, there is one exception and that is the Amur Leopard, if that is the sub species we end up receiving, then yes the Snow Leopard in the game is pretty similar anatomically as well as when it comes to behavior/habitat requirements, other than that, leopards are absolutely unique from anything currently found in the game.

I agree with you for the most part... I’m saying I want a leopard too but I consider them less unique than let’s say the jaguar or snow leopard than a sun bear is too any other bear we have in the game. Leopards are unique don’t take me out of context especially if we get the Arabian Leopard or African or Indian. I would love for planet zoo to show how arboreal they are

Maybe it's not whether leopards are unique or not but more of them being a staple species that many expected to be in the base game.

The difference between with the Himalayan brown bear is that is only a subspecies that isn't that different or unique in appearance, biome preference or location compared to other bears (the base game already had the grizzly subspecies, the panda and Asiatic black bear). Any of the tropical bears could have filled its slot perfectly.

By contrast, with the cats there's a huge spectrum of species that have not been tapped yet and there's a lot of variety. The game has a large number of felids compared to other families yet it still would feel incomplete without at least a leopard, clouded leopard, cougar or any kind of lynx.

I understand the Himalayan brown bear is definitely what soured the well for people. I’m cool with adding every species you mentioned! Diversity and player choice are everything, but with the way the game is going limited slots make people more picky and makes choices like the Himalayan brown bear even worse in hindsight.

I think really the only negatives i have seen for the bears in the game is the amount of space the polar Bears need compared to all other animals .Maybe that has made it seem people do not want any more bears . Personally i have really enjoyed virtually every animal thats in the game and in my 2 zoos i have tried to add every animal we have

I love the polar bear and since I play only sandbox nowadays with animal welfare off it doesn’t present me the usual problems. I think people are disrespecting the sun bear because it’s another bear instead of a new animal. I don’t think people realize how unique and unlike other bears sun bears are. This animal will be a fan favorite when all said and done imo. I too want some more unique animals in PZ but PZ also needs similar animals case in point the white/black rhino. The Indian simply isn’t enough to call it good just because we already have a rhino species. Not to mention just because they are similar bears, rhinos, ect they are all different behavior wise. I’d also be happy with sloth, spectacled,or American black bear also. Not saying we need them but their just different enough that a inclusion wouldn’t bother me. Sun bears are amazing animals they’re great at climbing and have loose skin in case a tiger or predator gets them they can spin around and fight back.

Love these unique guys and I agree with everything you said! Just cause PZ has similar species doesn't mean others that are unique in their own right don't deserve a spot.
