The unavoidable poll: PvP vs PvE!

What is more important for you: PvE or PvP?

  • PvE

    Votes: 609 83.3%
  • PvP

    Votes: 122 16.7%

  • Total voters
    731
  • Poll closed .
Don't get me started....... It's not that I LIKE the name .. But it was the chosen name fair and square but they have decided it IS silly name (it is)so are ignoring the poll and calling it the Sir David Attenborough. If they did not want to go with the poll... Don't do the poll. They could have have at least gone with the 2nd place name Poppy-Mai if they really didn't want to go with the winning name which would have been a nice thing to do as the little girl sadly passed away the other day.- - - - - Additional Content Posted / Auto Merge - - - - -I thin you are spinning a bitnthere mate. I suspect just as many pve folk ignore the polls as PvP . indeed let's be honest if it wasn't for a certain subsection demanding all players be forced into 1 big mode regardless then the whole debate would not be going on in the 1st place
As the father of a girl about to turn 1 next month, that makes me teary eyed. If people weren't making a joke of the poll, it probably would have been named after her. Also, I always thought these threads were a product of people whining that open is a writhing cesspool of violence (which is false). I've always been perfectly happy to pretend the people in solo and group don't exist.

And the people in solo/group are perfectly happy to pretend the people in open don't exist :)

I am surprised from what I have read on this forum over the last year or more all the pvp and guildies use reddit as this forum is very anti both.

... and reddit's very anti-pve. So? The reason the forum's so anti-PvP is because the PvPers used to come in here demanding that other modes get shut down, and that people get punished for playing anything but open which led to HUGE flame wars. The numbers in this poll are higher than ever, but even when the mode threads were popping up every day and getting merged into uber threads it was still 2-3 times as many PvE-ers.

People were asking guild mates( on reddit I believe) to open forum accounts just to vote for guilds. Iirc a mod commented about zero day accounts that had voted but never posted .

Yah, and likely never played as well. That's called vote padding.

I'd have liked to have seen this poll when PVP wasn't dull as dishwater or just before an update, when numbers of interactive minded players tend to dip out, rather than just after an update when people come back hoping the game has improved.

I don't get it, what happened that made PvP in ED dull?

You do realise that there is no dedicated PvP forum yet, and those who do PvP stay FAR away from here. Even a whisper about PvP gets all the 'Griefer!' comments going.

I tried soooo hard not to reply.. but g'damnit, my fingers had little lives of their own!

This is THE Dangerous discussion.. I thought it meant for everyone. No discrimination here, just good old high value saloon jousting with 6-shooters.

Although most PvEers swapped their six shooters for larger wallet space.

I like PVP very much. You never know what happends when you decide to fight. If you havent try it then i recomand you to do so. But its not a good thing to kill harmles players, give them some time to known the game guys ! I was only one time on pvp on a planet ,it was no that planet with alien structures, a guy was killkng players who fly to wach the alien structure, defendig them was so cool and honorable ;)). It was a fine fight, he was destroyed by my in 30 sek. But i mean that planetray pvp is very rare. What can by done to increse pvp on planeta ?

Stealth rails. All black ships in black space, in stealth mode. Only thing you can see is nothing, the only thing you can hear is occasional rail gun fire.
Thank you, I needed a good laugh. But seriously, you do know you've done that to yourselves right?

I always find it amusing to see how PvPers all act like they are special and unique snowflakes but when you see their behaviour... Someone finds an effective build and everyone follows suit, then they all start complaining about how the game is unbalanced and how x or y should be nerfed, the nerf happens and more complaining ensues till someone finds an effective build....

Sad thing is this sorry state of affairs tends to hurt PvE if only because developers waste time on trying to "balance" for PvP.

Is this the Kettle Calling Pots Black Convention? I have a ticket.

The design of parts of the game is the player's fault. OK? Wait, what?

We should also remember that most people who drifted to PVP did so because of limitations in the game. I can attest that The Code became a PVP guild because Piracy (which is what we actually wanted to do) became untenable. Plus our exploits brought about other groups (10, iirc) who were created to 'destroy us' or at least bounty hunt us. This lead to some great gameplay and then certain things were changed (missiles, then SCB, then shields) and the people, as they do, min maxed for the best fit.

That soon got dull and so, with no Piracy, no PVP (except Forum PVP) and every player attack on another called Griefing, mostly by people who do not know what that actual means (Protip: Not single or double attacks in an evening) and there are not many actual PVP'ers currently playing, especially as population dips before updates.

All this can be discerned by the magic of reading.

Addenda: There have been no real attempts to 'balance' PVP. There have only been 'toning down' of certain modules.

Omg I'm about to agree with the founder of 'The Code'..

DAMN IT ! I AGREED!

*time to mope, and feel sorry for myself with a strong coffee*

Repped for truth, though. And in seriousness, whilst I seldom agree with what the CODE do, you do have a point.

* not a pro

there are people who pirate just fine. not at all sure what you mean

edit to add: it's always seemed like most PvPers suggestions are ways to increase the amount of PvP. saying people resorted to PvP because piracy didn't work as they wanted reads rather strangely

Against other players, who have the best cargo?

Think PVP in this game is a fading past time. I suspect if 'we' had our way PvP would be limited to a quarantined game mode, and PvP only private groups.

It suits me to the ground lol.. but I'm not against PvP so as long as I can carry on as I am without interruption to me, doing my own thing in my premium game time.

The poll still suggests that 16% of folks that cared to vote do care about PvP..

So whilst the menu should be by definition catered for Player vs Environment activities, there still should be some choice for PvP as well, although I maintain that 83% out of 600 is really hard to spin, it should emphasize just what most feel is the sole attraction to ED.

That's not to say there should be some Vegan options on the menu, even though the vast majority may actually like their Steak.

YAY, pulled off another analogy.

No pirate ever in the known history of the galaxy gets to always choose their targets and cargo.

You're kind of asking the equivalent of fishermen wanting to forever haul in huge trawlerloads of fish then getting all upset when the stock runs out.

Did the game kill piracy or did the waters get overfished?

eta> poster above has mistaken me for being anti-pvp, no i'm all for it - just as long as we're all playing the same game, not half of us on space-invaders

No I don't actually. Reason being that I have had many discussions with those who prefer PvP on this forum.

Is this the Kettle Calling Pots Black Convention?
Both Pot and Kettle are operating in a very loud silent mode.

At least 16%. A large % of the other vote also care about PvP, but merely think the PvE aspect is more important.

Not sure where the pots and kettles come in but you're welcome to them.

Frontier did not force you to all use the FotM ships to PvP, you choose to. Now it may be true that not using the most effective configuration for the job is a bit non-sensical but that's beside the point and having all ships and loadouts be equally effective in PvP would have been just as silly.

I'd love to hear how you would improve the designs you think are making PvP dull even though I myself don't care for it.

p.s. We shoud also remember that the way you choose to play the game be it piracy or PvP relies on other players willing to subject themselves to whatever you care to inflict upon them and I think your main problem is a lot of people don't want to. This is not a design flaw, this is humans preferring their best interest over your amusement...
