The Void Beyond

OK - read the OP properly now. This is an absolutely stunning adventure, and a brilliantly written account.

I've added this to the "Epic tales of derring-do" section in my sticky "Best of Forum" thread (alongside other incredible tales such as Bomba Luigi's stranding on planet Wilson and Chiggy Vonrictoffen's rescue of Cmdr Macedonica).

o7 cmdr, keeping my fingers crossed for the ongoing rescue operation! If anyone can save you it's the Fuel Rats.

So, with word of rescue on the way, the watchword is 'Convervation'.

We're keeping the ship itself powered down except for the comms. My Pilot Sabrina and I are actually in the stasis units in the escape pods so we don't even need to run life support. One of us cycles out every 8 hours to see if there's been any message traffic.

With the ship powered up and everything off except life support, it still uses about 0.5 tonnes per hour. Based on the tank level last I checked, I think that's close to an hour of powered up time. In addition the life support tanks hold enough for 7 minutes and thirty seconds of O[SUB]2[/SUB] (D rated, obviously). It's slightly less then that now, because (as I mentioned), I'm not the best pilot out there, so I've repaired a touch of Emergency Drop & Heat damage on the trip out here. I'm always careful to do repairs and then immediately re-enable, so I've probably only used a few seconds.

I also have plenty of materials so in theory life support synthesis is an option. Since it's the same materials, I can also synthesize limpets, but chances are that won't be necessary.

The second biggest remaining issue is navigation.

For the rats to find me I'll have to power up the ship and turn on the wing beacon. Obviously we can't have that up for the whole supercruise trip out here.

When I was experimenting with navigation options, I discovered that with Sol targeted this display doesn't update anymore:

The little blue circle is always just in the center. I think it's just too far away.

It does show in the Heads Up display. You can see lots of examples of this over in the 65K from Sol forum. (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/296037-The-65000-Ly-from-Sol-Club-ver-3-0)

So what I did was target Sol, point my ship right at it, then go into Galaxy map and selected nearby stars until I found one within a few degrees of the line to Sol. Unfortunately with my nav computer offline, I can't look up what it's name is at the moment. I do know it's distance from Oevasy SG-Y d0 though: 775Ly, and that it's designation starts with M. So I have a contact back in the bubble trying to work it out from that. It's not easy though - at that distance, even out here where the stars are thin, there are quite a few stars to check.

In addition to CMDR Theunkn0wn1, word is that two other rats will be flying in convoy, and possibly utilizing a Black Buck style refueling plan if needed. They are only about 200 jumps away from Semotus Beacon.

I expect I'll power up briefly and turn on my wing beacon on when they get here, so I can look up my guide star then.

Until then it's back in the pod.

After receiving a message from CMDR Persera about their location, I was invited to telepresence into their ship. From my remote location, I reviewed their system status, seeing their ship had done superbly for travelling so far.

A brief tour of the main deck, and some staring into the void occupied our time. Later, I assisted in Persera's search for the appropriate stars. Out of those available, there were the following objects:

775Ly from Oevasy SG-Y d0, but only the following start with M
Myeia Thaa SX-L d7-0: 775.64 ly
Myeia Thaa KF-Y c14-0: 775.94 ly
Myeia Thaa NA-Y c14-0: 775.98 ly

I'm a bit disappointed. I have an anaconda. I have ~96t of fuel. I have a fuel transfer limpet controller. I'm in Oevasy SG-Y d0. The problem is my PC is on the other side of the country about 16 days away.

I'll have to settle for watching this happen without me. With the fuel rats on the case it will all be over soon one way or another.

Quick update from IRC for anyone following the story here - Highwaywarrior has just started heading out in supercruise towards last know location of Persera's ship!

"Right - I'm headed out. Current fuel usage is 1.32t/hr. Fuel reserves 160t, clock starts at 10:33(UTC)"

Just a quick update.

My rescuers are all now Sys+, as they say. I was able to briefly power up to give them a bearing. The long supercruise journey has begun.

Was able to check my nav system for the guide star I was using. Looks like it might not have been visited yet, or maybe I just glanced at it too quickly, but either way, I couldn't find it in EDSM: Myeia Thaa UXL-D72.

Commander Tango Hotel Echo, Fuel rat Foxtrot Romeo 1639 reporting in from Oevasy SG-Y d0. Well, 761kls and counting away that is.
Connection tested, looks like the Beagle Point Galnet relay is functional for once, not sure for how long though

Ship set to minimum flight configuration, so i don't have the energy to spare broadcasting to the Colonia relay directly. By appologies if the message isn't as crisp as you sol-bound members like it, its a shared pipe.

Fuel levels checked off, 128t in the secondary tanks, 1t in the primary, should have plenty even if something goes wrong, but i doubt it.
Everything that could have possibly gone wrong this trip has already transpired, so im not too worried about overshooting by a hours flight. My copilot, whom is certainly not a rubber duck, tells me il get there with a minimum fuel level of 61.76 tonnes, more than enough to see this through and get home.
Don't get me wrong, if it comes down to it the clients getting the fuel, whether or not i make it out is secondary. My copilot is well aware that our escape pods, should we need em, are unlikely to be found this far out. it could be a really long way home and as such has, well, sealed em in duct tape with crayon markings "We don't need these". Thankfully i managed to talk him out of jettisoning the pods, something about "saving weight"...

While the connection lasts ive opened up a fixed-perspective tellepresence link with the Sol streaming Service Twitch. They have agreed, due to the circumstances, to retransmit my stream on to the Masses, should they be so inclined to listen. Kinda hard to be told no to by a Corporation with nothing to loose and history to be made, didn't take much convincing to get Colonia to re-transmit either.
To gain access to the stream, you can use your local galnet Legacy browser and point it at https://www.twitch.tv/theunkn0wn1
Il keep it up for as long as possible, provided the Beagle Relay holds.

47 hours in supercruise to go. Possibly a mid-flight rendezvous and refuel from the support rat(s).

Til then, Commander Theunkn0wn1 of the Fuel Rats Beyond rescue party signing off.
