The Xbox 1 server and server issues discussion thread.

There's no confirmation of a "wipe" coming with this migration next week. The only thing we know is that the background simulation servers (and presumably the matchmaking servers) are being moved to the same as the PC test servers. However, if they do wipe our ships, I would only guess they would either send you back to the last station you docked at or to the starter world.

Pretty sure I saw it confirmed somewhere there is definatley a wipe. But... they are going to pay you back in credits to compensate for any assets you loose i.e ships you have.

EDIT: Found it. David Braben answered it in his AMA on reddit. First question, Answer 15.

You're both correct. There is a wipe coming, but not next week. I should have been more alert to the time frame of this thread, rather than posting what I did. This upcoming change will be leading up the the final release, where "the wipe" will happen. Sorry to have been misleading.

I believe you're referring David Braben's comments referencing the release to retail on Oct 6. Braben indicated in his recent AMA that we would lose our ships and get credit value, but the Dev q&a sticky at the top of this forum indicates they're going to try to keep our ships intact. There are some who doubt Braben's true knowledge as to the development progress in the game based on the erroneous answers given in that AMA. It seems he didn't even know the private group option was never functional and then removed from the Xbox platform. Regardless, they haven't announced a wipe with the server merge next week.

edit: ninja'd, but I'll reiterate that I still don't think there is a truly conclusive answer as to the "wipe."

Surely those that enjoy PP should start to reach out to their brothers and sisters and start to recruit players fron Xbox/PC into their groups so that you can Co ordinate strategy. After all you don't want like minded groups pulling in different directions surely........Cross platform groups are the way foward.

I think there may be some confusion regarding some people's usage of "wipe". The way I currently understand it, the next "wipe" the one coming in a week perhaps, is going to be of our exploration data, not our ships/position/PP/influence/faction rank. *THAT* (everything but our filthy, filthy lucre, representing our total assets) comes at the full release, once again as I currently understand it, and is a confirmed reality.

But the point regarding the cross-influence of PP on PC/Mac vs. Xbox is well-made. Its practically Taxation without Representation, its un-'merican, I tell ya!

IN THE ELITE:DANGEROUS FOR XBOX FORUM, September 19th, 2015,

When in the Course of gaming events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the electronic bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of teh Interwebz, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Gaming and of Gaming's Imaginary Gods entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of gamerkind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all gamers are created equal, and that they are endowed with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Pwnage...

Dah dah dah, dee dee dee, and whatever the hell else you wanna put in there.

Waits for the guy from South Carolina to pipe up...

I think it a reasonable assumption that the proportion of x-box players acting in each power direction would be roughly the same as the proportions of PC players, so it's not an issue.

Totally agree. Considering the size of the Galaxy, if this was a real-life scenario, most would never have any personal contact with the bulk of the populations anyway. I don't see how any of this is truly a problem.

Please tell me how to get back in 8 hours. I am currently making about 1500 ly/hr in my DBE.

Keep in mind I am on xbox and plotting in the core is near impossible.

Route planning into sag A was a sick joke, read up on some advice Iv found has helped is to press on plan route and when it hangs on 98% or 99% Move the cursor slightly to a near star (so hard to do at 1 frame per 5 seconds) according to what I read the hit rate is around 1 in 10 and I think xbox has about the same average, sooner or later I hit a star that computes fairly quickly to 100% where the one or the last 9 next to it was stuck at 99%

Just made it to Sol and sold my data. What a long boring trip back. Total haul: 56.5 mil

I am now a pioneer at 34% of elite! Just need to do that trip one more time...

I lost a lot of first discovery with the build update but I think I broke even by all the neutron stars I scanned in the core which were also reset.

PC Xbox server

Not sure if I have completely missed the point or what but why are the servers for PC and box being combined if we are never going to be able to shoot at/ fly with /wing up with the PC commanders?
I know it's big out there. But we will have a server full of PC first discovered places. Also they have an established power play layout.
I get it if we could fly around/wing/fight with them. But if all we are getting is background interaction what's the point? Less rares to make money from?
Are the servers so sparsely populated it has to be that way? Or is it a case of less work for frontier maintaining one simulation?
Or something completely different?

Am I the only one who doesn't fancy the sloppy seconds? Where's our Virgin galaxy?

I wasn't aware you were promised a virgin galaxy :)

As far as I'm aware the servers are being merged so that the background simulations are the same, so that everything that XBOX users do can affect the gameplay for PC users and vice versa. I would certainly imagine that server maintenance has a reasonable amount to do with it. I had heard talk, though you will never get official confirmation, that Microsoft are part of the reason that we will not be physically sharing the same space.

From the outset, Frontier have made a selling point of a single shared galaxy state which every player experiences and affects, regardless of game mode. Initially this was between the three game modes on PC with Mac players being added on release on that platform. With the launch of the Xbox One version of the game, another platform is being added to the single shared galaxy state. When the game (presumably) launches on PS4 then those players will be added to the same single shared galaxy state.

Running one galaxy state requires an amount of resource, whether personnel in maintenance and curating events or hardware in terms of servers. To introduce additional galaxy states would add to the running costs of the game....

Makes sense. Thanks for info.
Still would be fun one day to have cross platform smash between PC mac xbox and ps4.
That would be pretty awesome.

Besides, they need to free up this test server to work on PS4 build. On second thought, let them have No Man's Sky and be content with that. LoL
