I believe the extra pips are only available to the individual crew members, and not to the player at the Helm. To use a drone, or two, would require the actual player to switch accounts while playing to shift them about. If you put a drone on a gunner position, to gain the almighty pip, you loose the benefit of that weapon, as it will sit idle. Is not the trade off of one pip, for one weapon enough?
The extra two drone pips wouldn't need moving about though Mohrgan, they could just be left in likely places. And if all weapons are fixed or gimballed, nothing is lost, only pips gained.
Having said all that, if it makes it into the main game, how is it an exploit?
As far as I remember, you can't run 2 copies of the game on the same machine at the same time (you used to be able to do that but not any more).
As such, you would need 2 separate machines running.

Are you able to comment on how easy it is to use/abuse this? eg: Giving your main ship one or two more pips by your secondary accounts just sitting there in multi-crew doing nothing but earning free CRs?
EDIT: As pointed out it's unlikely that many people will have multiple accounts with access to beta, but is anyone able to comment more generally on how easy/hard it is to run two CMDRs in ED at the same time? ie: Can you do it on just one PC? Or do you have to do it at least on different users on one PC, or indeed different PCs?
UPDATE - Suggestion (solution?) by Garry.Brain
So the suggestion is:-
- if the gunner is not assigned a turret, his pip is not active.
- if the SLF is not flying, his pip is not active.
In this way, idle/unused CMDRs in those positions would not add extra pips!
ps: Why should the SLF fighter pilot/position even get an extra pip for the ship at all?
Except if a drone cannot take a Gunner seat, if there are no available weapons. That we don't know yet, but it seems likely to me. FD are not completely blind to this stuff. I think the trade off of at least one weapon, for each pip is appropriate.
P.S. I can't take your post seriously when you snip the Gravy part out. Gravy Hater!
Maybe this extra PIP is ONLY for the use of the guy on the seat? So the Helm provides the general "pipping" but you could have at least 1 pip for the turret you control and you always have minimal power for your systems, so the helm can't get use of this/those extra PIPs
I guess the same could go for any kind of account. Say I was out bounty hunting and another player just asked to come along for the ride - If I understand correctly they could be AFK but could give me an extra pip and they could pick up the bounties as they are duplicated and not split.

Also, can the pilot use the extra pip or only the other crew members?
having a pip doesn't necessarily mean that you're gaining power you didn't already have. Right now full power is divided by the number of pips currently available. There's nothing to say that FD didn't mistakenly make something logical and simply divide the total power up by the increased number as appropriate for the number of crew members aboard. So while you may be able to put 7 pips around, each pip is worth less of a % of the total power for any subsystem.
So the effect would be it adds finer grained control over energy subsystems. Rather than a bonus pip giving you > 100% of what a single player would have available.
But that puts a whole lot of faith on FD.

Doh! Good point...
None the less, there are people with multiple accounts (who might have used them in tandem eg to transfer cargo) who can at least currently comment on the logistics of running two CMDRs at once? Can it easily be done on one machine for example? Or does it require two?
ps: I've got friend who's long since stopped playing. I'll see if I can "borrow" his account (when this goes live) for a free extra pip...

I fly two CMDRs on one machine pretty frequently.
