Thrustmaster Space Sim Duo setup - can't get both sticks working at once

I just got the T.16000M FCS Space Sim Duo. I've tried following instructions, installed drivers and TARGET, reinstalled multiple times, I have the correct duo profile, and I've already learned not to install drivers with sticks plugged in.

I've gotten one stick or another to work in game, but never both. I have two sticks showing up separately under controllers in target, I've heard it's maybe supposed to show up as a duo there? I'm seeing it as a duo in the controls setting in game. Also, if I run the configuration and open the joystick control panel, There's only one controller, left or right, so I don't think It's steam or something causing a problem just for the game.

I'm baffled at how difficult this seems. I picked these sticks because I thought they would be the easiest, being official and designed for use with the game and having profiles already written. Maybe it's just me?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Are you sure that they aren't both working? ED doesn't do a good job of letting you know which controller is actually bound ti an action if you have more than one connected. Both x-axes will just show up as x-axis in the listing, but only one of the sticks x-axis will actually function for that action.

If you use Target then you shouldn't have this issue since it creates a virtual "Thrustmaster Combined" controller that will have unique axis names.

Also check that the switch on the base of the units are set to the correct position (Left hand/Right hand) in case that effects things.

That is what I think is happening, because not only do I have one stick in game but the event tester in Target and the light on the stick itself only works on the stick that's working. (It's been left or right, and when one works it works all the way: it lights up, shows up correctly in Target, and works with bound controls in game.)

I have the following lines show up in Target when I run the profile:
Connecting virtual joystick...Done
Device name set to Thrustmaster Combined

The switches were set right out of the box and they work when flipped.

As GroG79 says, it could be a power issue. Try connecting them to a powered USB Hub. If you use a USB 3 one it should give you more power, but connect it to a USB2 port on the computer - sometimes USB2 devices can have issues with USB3 ports/drivers.

Thanks for the advice! Different ports didn't fix it, and the power explanation makes sense so I've ordered a nice powered USB hub to try.

I tried it once but gave up, firstly because you just don't have enough buttons on the stick, secondly, when ever you plugged in the left stick, the key binds on the right stick would migrate to the left stick... Very frustrating.

There are ways to get over the lack of keybinds but the shifting keybinds was a royal pain. I used dual sticks in Star Citizen and enjoyed it, but in Elite I used a HOTAS for way too long and felt limited by the lack of binds on the sticks.

isnt there a switch on the bottom of the base of each joystick that you can switch to designate each stick between right and left.

Without Target the game doesn't register input from the left stick, even though it lights up. Thanks for the idea though!

Doesn't windows game controller thingie see two joysticks? If it does then Elite should see two sticks too. I wonder if it is actually the driver?
