Time frames on pulling the plug?

Now that the game is not restricted by the older consoles, there are a whole load of possibilities ;-

1. Ship interiors and all the stuff that comes with that.
2. Landing of different planet types.
3. Full VR.
4. Player Planetary Bases.
5. Terrible performance and lack of optimization that requires a top-end PC to perform as well as better looking games do on those "older consoles".

Well, there you go: we had two instances where we witnesses shutting down the - at least development. Mac and console releases. Can Mac version still be played?

technology moves on and so does the requirements. A PC from the same era as Xbox has to dial down its performance in order to play most modern games. Yes Odyssey could probably be ported to the PS5 and XBoxX but Both Sony and MS don't allow upgrades to games for just the later consoles. You have to release for the Xbox-One and PS4 as well. This was the crux of the matter, especially after cyberpunk screw the pooch.

The fact Frontier continues to support Horizons 3.8 on the server-side, despite it being truly "maintenance mode" software, is encouraging IMO, especially on consoles where the game truly has no future.

I suspect we'll see the "plug pulled" on 3.8 long before it's pulled on the entire franchise.
Well this comment lasted for like an hour before being shot down in flames....

RIP 3.8

There's little indication that Frontier are embarked on large scale development for ED and I really wouldn't count on it. If anything turns up I'll be delighted, as long as it doesn't require a further year of fixes.

IMO, there is NO indication that FDev are embarked on large scale development for ED.

Post budgetary cuts that happened last December/January, their patch schedule moved to once every 3 months with little dev happening (disregarding the story advancements) and with a vague promise of a major feature revamp for the next year.

Bugs get to persist even longer. Lots of recurring bugs. CM team engagement even lighter and so on
We even got features announced in the PatchNotes that never actually made it in the game.
To me this looks like the game is running on a very very tight budget

whoa!

i completely missed that info - and it's pretty substantial regarding transfers, legacy and live, legacy no longer affecting the galaxy and stuff....
I don't quite get it:

you will still be able to affect the galaxy via the background simulation. Actions in Legacy Mode will not affect the Live game.

So if you affect the galaxy via BGS - how would this not affect the live game? Is there separate galaxy states?

So we basically get two saves per Commander.

And which BGS will be affected in legacy? A MP one or a local save?

Have a read of the announcement thread:
