Unfortunately the tools i rely on are having issues at the moment. I've re-checked the systems I'm aware of on Inara and have assigned tasks to Rabid Hamsters in response.
I am flying blind at the moment for any new pending invasions or dramatic drops in influence that could be of concern, however we have quite a long time to respond, so I'm not worried.
@Staarlord: I found that the HIGH RES combat areas are very unpredictable in terms of what opponents they spawn. Often, I'll have nothing but sidewinders, cobras and vipers, earning me a few thousand cr a piece, going thru ammo for peanuts (comparatively). Then I'll drop into one of them and there will be far nicer-paying fishies including some anacondas, corvettes, etc. of higher rank and I'll earn 3 million cr within an hour. When we first claimed HR4979, my first visit in "our" HIGH RES area was like the latter and I thought: "this is gonna be great!" Then it wasn't like that.
Last night I visited the HIGH RESs in Anyanwu. It took me until my fourth drop to get good prey,* then I earned 5M cr in about 1 hr, 20min. I thought that was great and left only because I had synthed ammo for everything twice and thought it better not to be depleting my MATS so much, especially with FCs so close at hand- thanks CMDRs!
My earn-rates should be considered on the low-end. I'm not piloting an opponent-melting combat ship. I'm still in my multi-purpose Python.
I am interested to read what others may reply to your experience. I feel like I my combat rank has been advancing steadily with the CZ and RES activities I've been doing. That's a reaction that has no basis due to comparison of others' experiences, only my own, so it is just that.
* Edit:
I no longer hang around beyond a few kills in a RES that spawns only lower-cr opponents. I figure I'm just filling the space with lead for too small a payout. I have also noted differing spawn-rates of ships. Sometimes we (security forces and I) will eliminate all opponents and have to wait for more, sometimes the game keeps us fed.
Perhaps stating the obvious, combat in RES areas is quite a lot easier. Opponents are more difficult to kill in CZs. This (to me) means that earn-rates can potentially be higher in RES combat beacuse you can do away with more ships. I'm sure there are deeper effects of choosing RES over CZ combat but if the motivation is earning cr, you do one thing, if there's a different motivation/goal, you do differently...
ABSOLUTELY! BSL is for those with a lot of time to commit! RHL is JUST AS AWESOME but focused on different tasks and may be perfect for those who want to go deeper into the mission but are not as able to put hours in. They are both awesome groups working toward the same goal and as Crypto says we are not rivals but brothers in arms! Whatever works best for your playstyle and time constraints we'd love to have your ship flying our flag!If you want to help Turning the Wheel but do not have quite the time commitment that BSL requests, consider joining Rabid Hamsters instead.
The two legions often overlap in their duties. Where BSL is more heavy lifting and grunt work, Rabid Hamsters are usually spread out well ahead of the current area of operations working to prepare target systems in advance of our arrival.
The work is usually mission running, with some bounty hunting and trade thrown in. We occasionally have wars to fight that the general public will never hear of. You will be more likely to learn the BGS reasons behind a variety of activities in Rabid Hamsters than anywhere else. BSL work is frequently group oriented where Rabid Hamster tasks are usually independent operations.
If you can squeeze in 30 minutes several times a week fairly regularly and like a somewhat more laid-back environment, ping me in the elite week discord asking to be added to Rabid Hamsters.
These two groups are not in competition, they are both essential parts of the overall project. I will hopefully be posting some Hamster-lite versions of these type of orders here for those who don't do Discord but this is merely a taste of what goes on.
