UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

We're specifically not trying to dictate any sort of coordination or organisation, and even with that hands-off approach we've been accused of trying to "own the UA mystery". But we'd certainly support any group of commanders, Canonn members or not, who want to coordinate some organised searches. And of course we do organise "official" Canonn events from time to time.

Speaking personally, I'm having enough trouble just keeping up with this thread and other Canonn discussions. And it's a busy time of year for me in RL so I haven't had time to even consider planning anything lately.

Very much this - thanks Red.

Yes, we don't run a fleet at all, because it's not in our interests to do so - although very often we get informal fleets form for situational reasons. A large proportion of the people that have joined have done so because joining us doesn't mean tied to a single playstyle or activity - it's all choice.

What I would say is that I don't believe it's anyone's interest to go in and fight the griefers. They will keep respawning and respawning and getting a kick out of killing explorers until the explorers stop fighting.

And encouraging them does not help the tens/hundreds of other CMDRs who gave been happily flying around in the Pleiades, minding their own business, and up till now enjoying their contact with the other CMDRs they find there.

Personally, I think it's a sad misuse of an RP angle on their part - 'inviting' CMDRs to stop the search in the interests of himan safety and all that (ie fear of the aliens) and then entering into combat if the CMDR refuses would have made more sense. Just turning up and blowing anyone out of the sky is pretty low, and we only validate them by winging up and throwing ourselves into the breach.

I will use solo/PG to sidestep them.

I will also do my best to get CMDR Canonn up and running again soon so that we can have a Canonn-only private group.

I'm on 3g for most of today, though, so downloading the game to my laptop is off the cards.

You read, read and reand and simply try not jump at he last pages/chapter :)

Why not? You won't learn anything new :(
I've spent to much time driving around loads of planets and investigating POI's, thinking of calling it a day and wait several weeks when someone finally stumbles on something.
The phrase "Clutching at straws" springs to mind.

Probably Maia is not the right place... we are suffering a lack of game indications.
Merope is out
Pleione maybe, but at the moment there is only that strange feature in Pleione 3A; good for a massive alien base, but now we all saw that the crater is empty, so no more opportunities forl placing an alien base...

This lead to a problem: if we all see all planets, there will not be more space for placing more contents in the future, so we will be forced to move farther from civ space. Probably this is the reason why some regions are restricted..

When you log on and find dozens of pages to read to catch up, I suggest to take a look at the Front Page, as I'm always updating it, if something relevant happens.

IF SOMEONE FINDS A BARNACLE, PLEASE PM ME

It could be easier for me to update the FrontPage immediately, as I have to catch up the same as you, sometimes ;)

Thanks.

You're a star Riz!

Anyone know which of the systems in the Pleiades that has had the "permit required" lifted recently have landable bodies? If we get a list here we can work through them in groups.

Even though it's "cinematic" I bet the star fields and locations tie in with stellar forge...It would seem easier than creating them from scratch to me. Maybe...

Yes, I agree. Was a bit down when ZeeWolf said last night that the livestream (I missed it!) had disclosed that the release trailer is cinematic & not in-game, but I am still going to keep looking for clues & I think those trailer star patterns, plus some cryptic hints from MB , are (as far as I can see) all we have to go on- it has been said many times but the Pleiades is still a huge place to look & I'm not into grindfest; this should be an intellectual challenge to narrow down the search area, plus maybe a minor bit of grind for the final location phase. I am assuming from the release trailer that the spikes/Barnacles/structure seen alongside them are fairly large- some of those spikes look to be up to twice the height of a ship (going by the scale of the SRV), but apart from the ground colour & possible mistyness we have no other concrete clues. So I have to assume that the trailer is all somehow linked, but the release trailer sequences are out of order & some locations seem to be repeated. The Sidey landing on an ice moon by a ringed Jovian is also shown in the teaser Horizons trailer but I think it's all part & parcel of the treasure hunt trail.

Edited for typos.

I found this on reddit:

  • Pleiades Sector HR-W D1-79
  • Pleiades Sector DL-Y D68
  • Pleiades Sector DL-Y D65
  • Pleiades Sector HR-W D1-74
  • Pleiades Sector HR-W D-177
  • Pleiades Sector HR-W D1-76
  • Pleiades Sector DL-Y D67
  • Pleiades Sector HR-W D1-75
  • Pleiades Sector HR-W D1-78

All anonymous systems.... if there is not a direct clue somewhere to investigate a system whose name is a sector code, I never think to investigate it.

That's it!

Good man. Saved me from blindness attempting to locate that in this thread. Almost as bad as the Barnacle hunt.........

I think i found the planet guys, ship now disembarking.. c1046da101.jpg

Let us know pls.
(after many minutes...)
Let us know the star system at least....
(after other minutes...)
you are taking too long for a single jump; you MUST have found something!
(after too much time...)
you should have hit a rock and fail your mission... to much time for having an update...

Interesting that they appear to be searching planets in nebulae as well (amongst other things) and haven't found anything regarding barnacles or meta-alloys yet.
We haven't actually left yet !
The DWE (its an event not a group) has plenty of Canonn members going, and a decent amount of what little "organisation" there is (or is needed), is coming from us.

Just a thought.

About all we know about the Barnacles is that they well... look like Barnacles.

So the most obvious thing about this shape is that they can withstand massive amounts of gravity. A cone is the best shape for that. If its not pressure (No landable atmospheres yet) Then it MUST be Gravity.

That is the most important and most obvious clue I can think of.

So... Who's up for finding the highest G landable world in the Pleiades?

Pleione 3A was also my first guess. I searched it like 2 hours on last sunday....nothing...
BTW on this planet i also got the "not being able to leave" bug. Restarted the game and the bug was gone...

pleione planets all seem to have this problem, i tried the metal rich planet there, where i found what looked like a pyramid in the middle of a crater, flew in, got rammed into the surface, after that 1 planet i had to go repair

I also investigate Pleione 3A, but no bugs for me. The spikes at crater edges let me think about a 3D mesh error in rendering, but going near the crater, I see that the edges are well rounded even if extremely high, so this is a wanted feature for that moon.
This is really a pity that inside it there is nothing.
Are there other craters like that on other planets?
