UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

That banging and those clicks sound like Morse code

I didn't record any more and haven't had it repeat on my yet. Personally I thought it sounded like the hatching of baby upside down Cornetto looking Alien things trying to get in and eat me due to selling 500 of it's siblings for medical experiments. But that could just be me though.

Hey guys, even before I learned of these barnacles, I was on a mission to explore every nebula I could reach. Right now I'm in the Skaudai nebula, and have since added "look for barnacles" to my current mission of exploring nebulae.

As per the second post of this thread (what planets barnacles seem to like), finding "suitable" planets does not seem to be very easy. I spent about 5 hours yesterday checking every system within range, and I found two suitable planets just before I went to sleep. HMC, right temperature range, low gravity... However, these planets have no canyons or anything of the sort, they are more or less flat (there aren't even mountains). Asides from a small crater or two, the surface is pretty much... boring.

Finding the temperature range seems to be the most difficult task. Plenty of HMC and Metal Rich planets in the systems I visited, but all of them were way over the temperature range. Either way, I have a few questions:

Are barnacles found only on HMC, and Metal Rich planets? Or have they been found on Rocky/Icy bodies?
Have any barnacles been found outside the temperature range listed in the second post?
Asides from canyons, where else have they been seen? Craters? Open "flat" lands?

I would love to know exactly under what planetary conditions they have been found, so I can adjust my search criteria accordingly. Michael said "nebulae", so I assume they should be discover-able in any nebula provided the right conditions.

There is a google docs link somewhere to document findings, but I am not sure yet if I will use it. I might just upload something if I do happen to run into any barnacles while I'm out here.

Part of me wants to go back to Pleiades to check it out, but right now I believe trying to find them somewhere else is more important than to go see something that's already been found.

Any help/answers would be appreciated.

Explorer Oridinn, signing out for now. Back into the black!

We don't know for certain where exactly they spawn. Other than in Nebulas.
Yoda has been working on a theory and graph, but it's just speculation at this point.

Good luck and report back if you find one!

Some more tinfoiling:

- Has someone yet tried to feed the barnacles with something special like Sothis Cristalline Gold ? (or maybe Onionhead? :D)
- Maybe the thargoids are hiding within close proximity to the Maia black hole - At least it sounds like the perfect hideout for me.
- We have absolutely no idea where Palin has brought all these tons of MAs and UAs. I mean a pile of 100kt certainly does not fit into his research lab. Since neither MAs nor UAs are available in the commodities market, they must have been stored somewhere hidden from public. The recent news on Dr. Arcannon (https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/56a60d089657ba197a730a88) could be a hint on a secret research facility below the surface of Maia A2 A or maybe close to Pavlou keep.

Hold on you didn't know who our friend Giorgio A. Tsoukalos was? Really?

He's the guy who got the scoop on the latest FD news

The "core stars" of NGC 1893 (former unreachable) fits your request. Good luck CMDR! You will need it. It is a little bit more science then relogin a few dozen/hundred times ...

Disclaimer:
obvious, "exceedingly rare", "... the new station would be up and running within a week" [21.12.!], "The New Year's Celebrations will go ahead" [reward for current CG]
Nuts without end ...

If I ever go long distance exploring, I'll have to give it a look-see :D

Been reading some posts to keep myself updated I've been farming neutrons for like 2 or 3 weeks now ! Lol it's hard to read the posts and also concentrate on your exploration ; I've been seeing some interesting thoughts forming up , some think that we're not supposed to farm for meta alloys because it might be the shoot first theory we had a while ago which scares me the most however I thought of another possibility : if the barnacles are some kind of organic production facility or mining farm it might be possible that meta alloys are actually not a product but just a left over or a garbage of some sort ; if that's the case there is nothing to worry about , but if they're actually a product this is very problematic, even more if the meta alloys are important for the thargoids or the aliens , this is what scares me the most ! I just hope pallin manages to get some useful results out very fast !

Yeah, no outfitting at Maia so it doesn't hurt to triple-check what you'll need. A buddy found that out the hard way, then returned to the bubble only to find all the "nearby" stations he kept trying had their services locked down by the thing we're attempting to cure!

Congratulations on joining the Cutter Club, BTW! I highly recommend when you land yours, jump in your SRV and dismiss/recall it a few times just to watch the gorgeous animation of the landing gear up close. It is a thing of beauty.
Ouch, yea I figured it would be best to outfit in the bubble before coming out to Maia system. :)

Thank you, I will try that out. :D
I think I know what your talking about, is similar to the way the Imperial Clipper's landing gear folds up...lol I had 1 CMDR keep asking me to lower & then raise the landing gear on my Cutter when I had outfitted it at LHS 20 :)

Time to go find those barnacles & enjoy the view, just got to the Maia system & stoped at Obsidian Orbital, after getting interdicted by a NPC Gunship lol...at least I will not respawn back in the bubble if the worst happens. :)

Hello all

Just a heads-up.

We're heading in for the 10,000 post milestone, which means a whole new thread. Any suggestions for the title of the new one?

I'm genuinely surprised that nobody has yet come up with "Carry On Canonn"

I can do a passable Sid James. If we get a Babs and a Kenneth Williams, we're half way there...

Was to deliver some Blacknet data to "The Discordian Society" station in Lausang.

- "The Discordian Society" is a weird station name - sounds more like a faction to me .. and some googeling reveals a weird website with a motto: "As you learn more you will understand less. "

You have stumbled on to one of the Great Mysteries. Not from the game, though. Eris has personally sent you this message: "pull the wool over your own eyes!" As I am a registered Pope of Discordianism, I have the authority to pass the invitation on.

I wouldn't worry about it too much; if you see "The Bavarian Illuminati" though, there's gonna be trouble.

Hey all, been lurking in this discussion for awhile now with ~200 delivered. I decided to do some exploring instead of gathering now that we will at least reach tier 1. I'm on the search for a starting point of all these alien items. So far I have checked 8-10 systems using a variety of criteria to select them. The only truly promising idea I had came as a bit of an accident. I was trying to line up Merope (where all the UA aim) with Aries Dark Region GW-W D1-52 (the most common area to find UA) to see if maybe these UA or barnacles were sent from somewhere else. Outside of the Nebula I didn't find anything, but I did find Pleiades Sector IH-V C2-8 lines up directly between these two systems. This actually works to my favor, as MB has previously stated the Nebula has something to do with where these guys are from. Pleiades Sector IH-V C2-8 1 also fits all the criteria I have found except for the need of a Blue star.

If anyone is tired of moving a couple metas around over and over and wants to search I could use the help!

Possibly unrelated, and hard to pinpoint with such large distances, but the Antares crash site in Luyten 205-128 seems to also line up.

Awwww I just saw the Galnet post. ANTAREEEEEESSSSSS ! Jealous.... Will have to make Luyten 205-128 my first stop when I get back..... still chugging my way to the Skull and Crossbones ...
