I got it! Had to attack the T9's hatch (as it was spooling to jump) & lasted long enough to get it to pop out & grab it.

Frontier did not spend all this effort in making a wild goose chase, I would imagine quite the fanfare when the truth is uncovered.

BTW Are we even sure it is morse code? ;)

Don't most alien civilizations in cases like these try to transmit in primes.

Alright, just tested the Nav Beacon theory in Jita Ten. Dropped into the Nav beacon, destroyed the beacon itself, jettisoned the UA. I let it go through the sound cycle at least twice (~75% health left on the UA). There was no effect. None of the local ships in the Nav beacon instance seemed to care, no crazy ships (or Feds chasing me) dropped it. I scooped it back up & left.

I was going to post all my purr->morse test results (got about 10 variants), but when you're getting text like 'TEWETTK', 'TEPTQ', 'ETDTEER' or 'ETXEF', then you know you've probably got nothing!

Maybe I have an overactive imagination but the first two words I think of when seeing text like that is "substitution cipher"

Let's be honest, it's a slowed down tuba :p

the devs haven't made comments on the forums since 1.3, and they're too busy (understandably so) with the future Xbox release to continue with the UA.

I admire your innocent hope, but they really have missed a beautiful opportunity to give the community what we want. Science. Instead, we got politics.

Here we sit, grasping at the last good thing since powerplay, hoping and waiting for a sign.

We all thought Halsey went missing because of the UA. Turns out, it was only to justify having 2 fed powers. I rest my case.

Give us science.
Not politics.

Heresy! The primary engine of science is the immortal desire within the human psyche to decipher the secrets of the unknown. To stop searching would defy our most human aspects. We cannot rely on official statements but only on the restlessness of the human mind. The search will continue until the very last secret of the Unknown Artefacts is revealed and understood.

Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!! begin the tests..... I was fourth of jullying so I did not have time to search for the UA... Seriously nice job.

Well done, so that proves they are still being spawned, that brings us up to 3 :)

Just to confirm guys, the EKURU A 1 recording is not on my twitch stream, I will do another one.

Ah, man... I've had my fill of that kind of thing! It's true, though.

Rot-13 is out ('GRJRGGX', 'GRCGD', 'RGQGRRE' & 'RGKRS'), and for a keyed cipher, such as vigenere, what would be the key? The location part of the sound, I.e. the chittering?

But then where's the payload, I.e. enciphered msg?

I know it was just an idea, but I'd personally rather stay 'in the clear' before resorting to thinking we have cipher again! ;)

Tried my stupid Azaleach theory. As you might've guessed, I did not explode catastrophically upon jumping there. However, something interesting is that the price on the black market in Azaleach (169,723) is lower than anywhere recorded in the price triangulation thread (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=142906).

And here's another fun one that comes from the black market pricing. If you go to the Galaxy Map, start at Timocani (where I got it, ~181k on the black market) & draw a line through Azaleach, guess what falls on that line in the distance: Polaris.

I really need to go to work but I was curious so I did a run through all the ROT-N's using: http://rumkin.com/tools/cipher/caesar.php

The most promising was ROT-7:

ALDLAAR
ALWAX
LAKALLY
LAELM

Don't seem to mean anything in English at least, but at least they're halfway pronounceable.

System names? Someone else check, I'm off.

To make a message in high/low signals morse without clear character breaks and the use substitution cipher on it. That's pure evil. They can't have done that ??

Sorry, none of those show up in the Galaxy Map when copy-pasted in.

Somewhere, in the depths of the labyrinthine hallways of Frontier Developments' offices, a mysterious figure shrouded in black begins to chuckle. "Yes, give me your tears..." hissed Dark Lord Brookes, who then threw his head back in maniacal laughter.

In Jeans City in ONDI it sells for 225,485 credits

I don't feel I've been wasting my time any more.

I popped out for a few minutes and got 5 SSS in less than 15 minutes, one being the "right" kind. Alas I had to go back to get to work. :)

I'm hating myself for saying this - but what if it's the Thargoid/alien name for the same system or body? From what I've seen, most Thargoid names were single word, so word breaks wouldn't be needed.

What I was unable to decide was the best way to deal with the pauses between the low groans vs the high chitters. Not to mention whether a low note was a dit or dah, and vice versa. Quite a few combinations there, perhaps I'll put them all up here in a while when I can get off my phone and at keyboard :)

I doubt a cipher, though, more likely just another form of Morse, if anything at all.

I did a lot of research trying to find another form of audio communication that worked off pitch modulation instead of off/on or phase modulation (like PSK).

I could find only one - spoken word.

@mrtree

Well done CMDR!! Did you have any specific equipment (such as auto-repair modules), or did you just get to a station really quickly ?
