Update 1 and Early Cretaceous Pack coming 9 December to Jurassic World Evolution 2

I suppose not... although personally I always thought people hated the original challenge mode... no real challenge, just slow grinding.

Anyways, the challenge mode in the first game didn't come till later, so they might add it to the second one at some point.
This is an idea largely created by Youtubers like Evolution Square and BestinSlot who are mostly Sandbox players.
It is also not entirely Challenge's fault, the reason people largely disliked it is because Frontier loaded unlocks into it which made the thing necessary for completionists and tedious as a result because there was just a need to play it OVER AND OVER. It was supposed to just be a free building mode for those who want to build a park with all the challenges that would entail, the extra things tacked onto it were unnecessary and Frontier somehow still doesnt seem to understand what their game is really about by the looks of things.

But yes, perhaps they will add it at a later time, until then I am not playing any more, as i literally have nothing to play and I am not buying an packs or expansions.

No, that's not the same. There is a difficulty slider, but that doesn't mean I get to use any species I want on any of the maps. I want a gamemode where I gotta build from the ground up, send expeditions, research , acquire money, etc, but I cant do that with the current Challenges because they're far too limiting. No Carnivores or Genetic Modification on Germany, no Herbivores in Northern USA, very high threats in various maps, can't use certain species in certain maps not even Canada has access to all of them. If I just went to Sandbox with limited money, it wouldn't be the same because everything is unlocked, I can't gain new animals WITHOUT getting them in Chaos/Challenge first, there's no gratification of building up bc I can just turn money off at any time. It's not the same. Just give us the option to customize each Challenge Mode so we can play the game like starting a new JPOG Park or starting a new regular park like in JWE1.
100% THIS!!!! Without this the game has no replayability at all. Sandbox just isn't interesting for many of us without any form of progression and adding more maps to it won't change that.

You guys are aware that old gen consoles have a species limit per park anyway, and that is likely the reason behind the species limit in each challenge, right?

Not saying that what you suggest wouldn't be great, I also miss the sense of progression of the campaign from 1, and really liked how Secrets of Dr Wu integrated itself into the campaign, while disliking how Claire's Sanctuary was a separate campaign that was basically forced challenge mode, down to the Hammond foundation fee, which was not that great of a gameplay mechanic.

But, no need to be melodramatic about it.
Species limits have nothing to do with it. Its easily possible to block the ability to synthesise a new Dinosaur once you hit the 50 species limit. JPOG did it back in the PS2 era.

This. Plus the species limit on old gen consoles has nothing to do with the ability to dig them up and research stuff, which is what this whole thing is about.

It also doesn't mean you are limited to 50 specific species like challenge mode does. You can still choose from all the available species in sandbox but you can only have 50 in your park at once. Say you reach the 50 species but then decide you wanna have a Spino after all, you can just go get rid of the Rex and add Spino instead, you're not limited to Rex only or Spino only, you can have both or choose either.

This update is a great step in the right direction; kudos to the team! Now can we please have the ability to start a sandbox from scratch, with research and excavations? Or is this included in the update?
Hello! We don't have anything to announce about a mode like that in this update, but I've forwarded your feedback back to the team.
Will the DFW be its own era?
For all intents and purposes, yes. You can mix it with JP or JW era if you're on PC or new-gen consoles.
Now that we (will) have JP aviary and lagoon, would it be possible to have JP safari count towards transport ratings? Seeing as we can have multiple tour stations and no monorail for JP era, that would make full JP themed sandbox perfect.
Thank you for the suggestion, I've forwarded it to the team
Hi @Francesca Falcini , could you please elaborate about this?
We're working on a thing where you can see the Kronosaurus in Hyde Park. We'll elaborate more as we're a little closer to the date.
any word about performance issues and HDR?
Not for this particular update, but it's being looked into :)

A LOT of this update sounds like a great step in the right direction. I know lately I've been pretty negative about this game whenever speaking up, but these patch notes look promising. I just hope this is a first step and not a one time thing. There's been several great suggestions in this thread alone for even more changes and I really hope the dev team take them to heart. We REALLY need a way to deactivate combat in sandbox for carnivores, and it would be super nice if the 2-step dino creation process could be simplified, at the very least for sandbox. And also the option in sandbox to remove the need for scientists. The one I really want but doubt will happen is the ability to have the cosmetic gene be randomly picked from all unlocked skins/patterns for each individual egg. We should be able to have every dino looking different and unique without having to breed each one individually, especially now that the creation process has been dragged out and split into two steps. (I've said before and I'll say again, should've stuck with the old system from the first game and just implemented the randomized cosmetic option)

Also is it just me or do the jeeps handle a lot worse in this game? Seems like it takes forever to turn around.

I'm super excited for the update and can't wait for all the new stuff in addition to the DLC. I don't mean to be a bother, and maybe the patch notes will talk about it next week, but is a fix for aquarium feeder fish coming in this update? I've had multiple maps, especially in challenge mode with multiple levels of elevation, where the fish seem to forget they are fish and will break free from the enclosure and swim in the air around the map. It's really strange seeing fish swim around the map in the fields and over buildings, any updates on this would be appreciated. As always thank you for the amazing game and please tell the dev team thank you.

Hello Park Managers!

Grab your Ranger Gear, because we're heading out on an archeological dig! We're excited to announce the Early Cretaceous Pack coming to Jurassic World Evolution 2 on 9 December. The Early Cretaceous Pack adds two new land dinosaurs, one new flying reptile, and one new marine reptile to the game, all from the Early Cretaceous Era.

You'll be getting to know Wuerhosaurus, Minmi, Dsungaripterus and Kronosaurus a little better over the next week, but you can check out the Species Field Guide for Kronosaurus in the video below:

If you find yourself in Hyde Park in London on 8 and 9 December, you can see the Kronosaurus come to life over the Serpentine during the evening, after sunset.

Releasing alongside the Early Cretaceous Pack is free Update 1! The Jurassic World Evolution 2 team has been hard at work making this world evolved even bigger than before. Update 1 will introduce more playable maps, more building sets, rock perch points for flying reptiles, and several other quality of life changes. and bug fixes. Read on to learn more:

DFW/JP Building Sets

Buildings and fences from the Department of Fish and Wildlife will be available in Sandbox Mode starting from 9 December. If you enjoyed the campaign mode and wanted to continue building using the DFW's building set, you'll be able to use them very very soon. Update 1 includes a full set of DFW buildings, from Restrooms and Lagoons, to Hotels and Viewing Platforms. We're also releasing additional Jurassic Park themed buildings, specifically Lagoons and Aviaries, so you can have marine and flying reptiles in your Jurassic Park era Sandbox.

Campaign Sandbox Levels

After Update 1 you can use the five campaign maps in Sandbox Mode. Revisit the Arizona desert, the Washington State mountains, the Pennsylvania airport, the forests of Oregon, and Yosemite National park in Sandbox and create some amazing dinosaur parks or facilities. We can't wait to see what you build in these locations. Which map will you build on first?

Flattened Sandbox Levels

Do you prefer to start with a blank slate in Sandbox Mode? After Update 1 you can! When you start up Sandbox Mode you will now have the option to start with a completely flat, tree-less version of any map. You can then modify the map topography and flora as you wish!

Rock Perch Points

Speaking of flying reptiles: they can now perch on rocks placed inside an Aviary, letting you and your guests appreciate their majesty when they rest between flights.

Balance Changes

We've done a few changes to game balancing based on some of your feedback. The frequency of storms and disease outbreaks in Chaos Theory should be less frequent after this patch, as should disease outbreaks in Easy and Medium difficulty Challenge levels. We've also made some tweaks to the Dominance stat, which should cut down on dinosaur fights, as well as decreased the likelihood of dinosaur fights causing injuries. Finally, we've rebalanced the combat stats of dinosaurs that can be involved in group hunts.

Accessibility Additions

Update 1 also comes with several accessibility additions. We've added in different subtitle colours for each speaker, an adjustable autosave frequency, and the game can be paused during cutscenes.

The DLC and free Update 1 will release on 9 December at 14:00 GMT, or at the following times in the time zones listed below:
  • 15:00 CET
  • 09:00 EST
  • 06:00 PST
  • 01:00 AET (on 10th Dec)
We hope you're looking forward to all these new changes and additions. Update 1 will come with various other tweaks and bug fixes, and the full list of patch notes will be released on launch, 9 December. Let us know what you think in the comments below! Be sure to keep an eye out on our socials for more information and screenshots about the dinosaurs and reptiles from the Early Cretaceous Pack. Thanks for fixing the bugs. They are really bothering you too much. But I would like to share with you, the opinion and Review of a friend of mine. I won't say the name, so as not to compromise your image. But he is very unhappy with the game. I can say that I share some of your frustration.

“DON'T BUY JURASSIC WORLD EVOLUTION 2!!!
11 REASONS FOR YOU NOT TO BUY THE GAME YET.
Guys, I kept playing since the review I did and I came to the conclusion, the game is definitely not worth it! Expect to be almost free on some promotion or even out for free on some platform, but don't spend the value on the game while it's buggy like this!
The game basically doesn't have any logic, it doesn't work! It makes you spend hours and hours playing, and then undo EVERYTHING you built with 1 single storm.
And if it was only once, on the second attempt you could complete the objective, that's fine, but no. The game just doesn't let you play.

It's just for anger. And they are already planning a paid DLC for December 9th. They don't mind fixing the game, but sucking our money with minimal upgrades and a misery of new species. In other words, they released a game in half (because most of it was removed so as not to spoil the domain) and the half that came is full of bugs, it doesn't work. Half the game is too easy as the campaign is just a tutorial and chaos theory is impossible to do. In other words, there is no middle ground, a balance.
Some examples of bugs:

1 - Dinos get curled up without eating, get sick and die (when they crash they can't be healed or moved)
2 - Dinos killed inside buildings like the medicine center, once removed, continue to obstruct the building, which cannot be demolished to make another one, nor moved. The building cannot be used because the game claims that there is already an animal there, when there isn't one.
3 - Dinos fight too much and get too sick, so you're forced to play mostly just healing dinosaurs. The game is basically that, healing dinosaur wounds. There's no time to do anything else. And the process of healing dinos is long and tiring, it takes a lot of time.
4 - Game items are too expensive for no reason: for example, digging fossils of T.rex is more expensive than that of a Brachiosaurus. Why, if the fossil is just petrified bone after all? It should be the same price, it can't be too high just because the dino is more popular.
5 - Amenities (food, drink and gift stores) are broken. They start working giving a profit and shortly afterwards they start to give a loss even if you put it in the right place, set it right, for the right type of visitor. And once you start losing money, there's no turning back. You can forget that it will be possible to take back her profit.
6 - Visitors are teasing about the lack of space, even if you use the widest paths and the largest possible amount of hotels and large stores for them to use. You can do whatever it is, they're always complaining.
7 - Even reaching 100% of the park's goals and needs, you can't beat 5 stars. even having done everything that was requested and still having financial profits, the park does not reach the five stars.
8 - The cars in the park are all buggy, they roll over for any reason. They are indirigible in storms and get tangled up in anything when programmed to do tasks. In the screenshot shown in this post you see several dead dinos, because my medical staff carts instead of going to cure the dinos got tangled up in trees, dinos or fences and never quite accomplished the designated objective.
9 - The game doesn't let you customize things as well as you think watching trailers. There isn't even a preview of the dinos color and spot pattern for you to see before creating.
10 - The park always gives little profit, so if you go into negative money, you will never leave. If you can't recover before reaching the first negative million, forget it, abandon it, exit the game without saving or start over from scratch, it doesn't matter. Because the only way to get the negative money back is to destroy the entire park. You have to fire employees so you don't have losses, destroy buildings so you don't have expenses, sell dinos and everything else to recover a little money and even if you sell the entire park, it might not do any good. Basically impossible to revive finances if it's negative.
11 - The game never lets you complete everything, when you realize you're close, around 4 or 4.5 stars, play non-stop huge storms that destroy a lot of buildings, hurt dinos and make them sick, at the same time they do the stores start to lose money. Then dinos die, park valuation drops, and you start losing money. If you don't have a massive stash of cash, you won't be able to heal all the dinos, remove the dead, fix the buildings/fences fast enough to stop taking damage. And even if he does, several dinos will be dead and that will lead to an assessment of the park below. This makes you earn even less, and now that you're almost broke or completely broke, you'll have to try to hatch new dinos to replace the dead ones. But you won't make it, because you don't have enough $$$.

In short, it could take you 3-10 hours of gameplay to build a park, but you'll lose it in 5 minutes and start all over again. After the second or third try, the game stops being interesting, it becomes just boring, repetitive, tiring, frustrating and irritating.

AGAIN, DON'T SPEND YOUR MONEY, BECAUSE IT'S NOT WORTH IT!”

@Jens Erik now I ask. After this uupdate Which of these problems and challenges will be resolved? So that my friend can play the game again and have fun.

Thanks. Will we get to have a look at the JP aviaries and lagoons before the update? I am particularly curious about what the lagoon viewing stations will look like.

Fossils can definitely be more expensive if the dino is more popular. Trust me, as someone who has experience buying dinosaur bones, I know that can certainly happen.

I think it should be pretty obvious at this point what we want in that regard, since it's been requested and talked about to death all over the place (or several places rather) by now...Just posted this in another topic but I'm gonna put it here again as well:

There isn't a single mode in this park builder/manager game where you can simply build and manage your park from the ground up without any stupid restrictions and limitations put on it in any way. Challenge Mode is more like yet another campaign with limited dino rosters, building restrictions and so on, same as Chaos Theory and the actual Campaign is nothing more but a repetitive tutorial where you don't even build a park. Sandbox right now is just boring for a whole lot of people because everything is thrown at you right away and there's no sense of progression whatsoever.

What we want is the possibility to start completely from scratch, with full economy, while unlocking EVERYTHING that's in the game for our park while we expand it. Maybe take a look at JPOG's standard game mode, that is pretty much exactly what we want. Clean slate map in every regard, no story attached, no limitations put on eras, dinos, buildings etc. just building and growing our parks while unlocking more and more in the process.

And as has been said many times already, the solution is as simple as giving us two more tiny option for our sandbox parks:

Expeditions/ Genomes 100% complete? Yes/ No
Research 100% complete? Yes/ No

That's all, nothing more is needed to make everyone happy and add a whole lot more replayability to the game and it really shouldn't be that hard to implement into the game.
I couldn't agree with this more. Jens, you seem like you're on the ball. I love that you are being positive, and I truly believe you are passing the message along to the development team. Please... Emphasize to them, or to the sales teams, that adding this feature is what is going to give the game REPLAYABILITY for so many people. With that replayability, we will continue to buy DLCs for more dinos for our parks.

As it stands, I have 0 reason to buy this or any other DLC, because my options are to do challenges over and over again with annoyances I don't want and limitations on species, or do a sandbox mode where two MAJOR features of the game (Expeditions/Research) are completely gone. There is no way for me to build my dream park from scratch. I literally have no reason to play this game ever again without these features, and I know I am not alone.

Anyone who is interested, there is a thread here. Please let the devs know what this game needs to keep customers active... https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/sandbox-research-and-expeditions-toggle-options.594716/

And if you think the complaining about it here is a lot... Check out Steam discussions.

almost every second comment wants a sandbox mode with the option to have everything unlocked or at least to be able to research. Please give us these option otherwise the game will quickly end up in the corner for many and no one will buy DLCs and I guess that 50% of all players are sandbox players.

Another idea would be the improvement that visitors can also see the animals through the fences. Totally illogical that this can only be done through the galleries....

And is it really hard to add more scenery items or single trees that already existed in part 1? This can be made available to us please just in between and not only in a few weeks with a next update...

This is nice and stuff, but how about a real sandbox mode with everything unlocked?

I am very disappointed and regret buying the game to be honest. I just wanted a nice sandbox experience. I cant refund the game because i thought the campaign was the tutorial and finishing that took me over two hours.
I tried the other modes but theyare just not what i want from the game. I find them boring and frustrating.

You want a nice sandbox experience where you can just do everything, as do many others.
A great deal of other people simply wanted to be able to play the game freely, without the bull Challenge, Campaign and Chaos mode restrictions but with progression.

Neither of us got what we wanted from this game.

Frontier has somehow concluded that Sandbox players should have to play modes they do not enjoy in order to be able to play Sandbox. Not just once or twice, the forcing is already bad enough, but the scale to which it is done. How they did not think this would frustrate their audience, I do not know. The entire reason Youtubers like ES and BiS decried JWE's Challenge is because they are Sandbox Players and were forced through repeated lengthy tedious replays of Challenge, as they wanted the unlocks. This frustrated Sandbox players already and it was voiced. Somehow in this sequel, that lesson was not learned but the mistake was doubled down on and to boot, Challenge, the game mode that people who actually wanted to play the game had, was then throttled by even greater limitations and no alternative was provided.

Why are you making so many mechanics like the staff management, expeditions, incubations, research etc, if the only game mode that lets you build freely simply doesnt have even the option of utilizing them? These are central mechanics to your game, it is the INTENDED experience to use them and instead you have tied them only to fleeting, constraining game modes that most people either do not want to play or will play once for the unlocks or curiosity and never play again. There will be those precious folks who try to squeeze water from a stone by replaying these heavily constraining modes, but that effort is futile. The entire point of this game should have been to build your dream park, and since it's a game, usually that entails going through progression and some difficulty along the way as well. Instead we have species limitations, time constraints, era limitations, small maps, objectives, unlock requirements and for the one mode that allows you to build freely, absolutely 0 progression, with no alternative such as Challenge was. Why are all these roadblocks put in front of people who just want to have fun with the game?

I do not want to bash Frontier, they are good people, they put effort into supporting their games, but why is it that they have to keep launching them in this state? This is just bad bussiness.

I have not written a negative Steam review for this game because I actually believe in Frontier being able to fix this. Please prove me right. Not because my opinion matters, but because I want to be right about you guys.

In the first game guests could see through the fences while in the JP safari tour vehicles. I hope this is still possible with JWE2 cause that's how JP worked in the movies. It would be kind of hard to build an authentic JP if the guests can't see the dinosaurs through the fences while in the tour vehicles.

But if they can see through the fences while on foot it would kind of make the viewing galleries kind of pointless. I can see why they didn't make that an option.
