Update 11 - Release Date Change

im quite pessimistic about this update. rumor that the carrier interiors are coming in update 11. i dont trust it, frontier has a history of delays after delays after delays for major features to be released. i will be happy if my pessimism is proven wrong this one time.
Delays are less concern than totally broken releases.
Oddity (paid for) release was and still is a catastrophic event for all the Commanders out in the black.

I don't believe they can afford another messy alpha/beta as we had in Odyssey.
Not really anything new anyway, it's just just the concourse pasted into the carrier.
Perhaps I'm the eternal optimist: I was hoping the interior would be a little more than just a copy/paste - although I'll admit to not having looked.

:D

Although we are getting a hyperjump visual aren't we?

One quick question,
how is the performance for you?
60 FPS everywhere, even in ground High CZ with fires...
I can play EDO in VR on my Valve index too with a consistent 90 FPS.

All with mostly Ultra settings and no AMD 'helpers' switched in. (and in 4K resolution)

But, with my hardware, if the expansion was better optimised, I'd be expecting around 50 - 100% better performance, but the expansion has issues still, so I don't have that luxury.

I'm unable to comment in any meaningful way as to how the performance of the expansion has improved or not since the end of November, hardware changes has removed the frame of reference I used to use.

Thanks for asking...

My experience is: Perfectly acceptable, except when it isn't.

Unlike the early days of odyssey, when it would chug at a consistently low framerate in places, it feels smooth. I don't use the counter, so I don't know the exact framerate, but my subjective experience is good enough.

Except sometimes, early on in any given instance, the framerate doesn't just drop, it stops, completely. As in, seconds per frame. It doesn't last long before returning to normal, but it's pretty unpleasant and Jarring.

My guess is it,s caused by assets loading in, despite ED:O being the only game on my PCIe NMVE drive. I can't be 100% certain it isn't partially down to my hardware though. I'm starting to suspect that Odyssey's well known issues have lead me to overlook things I might actually be able to fix.

I'd like to see the update held back a little longer but opened as a "beta" type release so players could test. Maybe for a further week?

Alpha/Beta releases are costly. And i dont think they afford this for a non-subscription / non-p2w game.
Much cheaper to release and fix what's broken

I'm jealous. I can't even stay above 30 FPS when exiting super cruise at a station. I'd think due to culling their should be no real difference to Horizons' performance at this point. I assume it's because of some fundamental changes to the render pipeline.

But obviously I've never seen the code, which leaves me with assumptions.

LOL! Sorry CMDR but we will be testing/playing update 11 as soon as each and everone of us has it installed anyway, as such it will get its alpha and beta test all rolled into one, then any issues will hit the forum rapidly.

Oops, caveat time.

Settlement fires do have a very noticeable frame rate hit. I would have thought my rig could manage it but... not as well as I'd hoped.
When I had the 2080 Super, I could 'lose' 20+ FPS in some settlements (not only those with fire, the extraction sites could drop me from 60 to 9 or less, cycling every 20 seconds or so!), further optimisation was introduced at around the same time as my buying the 6900XT (and 5900X) and those issues no longer exist - but I'm tempted to believe the differences were in optimisation, not solely due to a massive hardware bump.

Perhaps I'm pushing it by running at 3840 x 2160 with all graphics options maxed :D
You can get away with reducing a few settings without a noticeable impact to visual quality, bloom and shadow spring to mind. The GeForce Experience game optimisation got mine pretty bang on but I found I could go to ultra + for terrain detail and increase draw distance without much of a hit.

Sounds suspicious if it's that jarring, culling doesn't mean stuff is removed from memory so don't think it would be a disk thing. Might be worth trying that Windows 10 "hardware accelerated GPU scheduling" on if its not already.
