Update 18.04 | Python MK II

I tried SCO out for the first time last night with the one fitted to my base Python MkII (bought with ARX earned in-game).

It's clearly a straight upgrade for the 1,500ls trip I did to a nearby planet, it wasn't a long enough trip to cook the ship or have any downside other than fuel usage & I can see myself adding it to most if not all of my fleet, particularly to remain competitive against other Cmdrs. There will be some practice required to interdict other Cmdrs but it should provide significant advantage to those that are paying attention & want to quickly move to another location to capitalise on an opportunity or avoid becoming a victim.

There is clearly some skill to using it (arguably not enough although perhaps there is more to it I haven't seen yet) making in-system trips both less dull and more interactive, and reduces the time exposed to danger in supercruise so the concept is a good solution to a lot of gripes about supercruise mostly being a boring time-sink. I found it very handy for escaping gravity wells in particular.

I do wonder whether human NPCs will gain this feature making them harder to interdict but overall it seems like a good way for Cmdrs to fast-track the boring travel times while retaining most of the dangers of supercruise during the deceleration phase.

I do like the SCO mechanism (now that I don't have open up SpecialK's overlay to cap frame rate to 24-30 while using it) and once one has it, there is the real choice of when and where to use it, or not.

However, there is now essentially no downside to equipping the drives, so it's depreciated conventional FSDs for most uses, leaving no increase in choice with regards to planning or outfitting. We're all going to be using them, when we get around to upgrading new sets of FSD modules.

I'm saying that I like actual choice and trade-offs. What this new SCO drive gives us is straight inflation.

The cost of the upgrade is neither here nor there.
I hear you.
You could just turn all engines into SСOs, but for some reason this move is considered too good, when in fact it's just a miscalculation in the mechanics of flying in SС.

It's the peach when taking off from a planet or any gavity well.

Shame on you! Now I have to keep mine, too :D
Paranoia breeds paranoia 😀

On my main I think I've got 50+ ships knocking about, don't want to bulk replace modules unnecessarily (I haven't even psyched myself up to fixing the letter cases on all the ship names for Inara yet). So I've just put SCOs on a few ships I use regularly and would see immediate benefit, will play with those and wait & see for the rest. If Sirius do respond by retro-fitting SCOs (with some kind of performance trade-off vis-a-vis the Achilles drive to make the choice meaningful), then that might suffice.

The saddest part is that you cannot use undersized SCO FSDs.

I was about to change all those 2D stripped down FSDs on my ringfighting ships to their 2D SCO versions (because it would have been nice to be able to speed up SC maneuvering around those ringed planets) and I realized that it was impossible. :(

Yes, It makes engineering the drives more complicated than necessary. Now I have to take a ship from of each FSD size to Deciat to cover them all...

Waiting for the engineering revamp before I go nuts on the FSD replacements. No point paying over the odds for the Maker knows how many I'd need to upgrade my fleet.

And as others have noted, not a straightforward decision for some edge cases. I can see me keeping a few of the Sirius versions around because of the ability to fit undersized ones.

To me, it will also be a case of whether the Sirius FSDs are going to be upgraded with some sort of patch that is applied to the existing modules, or if they roll out a new line: I would not want to replace all my drives with the SCO, only to replace them again with the new Sirius ones.
I hope there will be tradeoffs.

ATM out in the black, When I get back I have 2 ships (Sidewinder and Asp) that I will upgrade.

I am also going to buy 1 of each (A) size and engineer them and then place them in storage on carrier for use as needed.

For me this seems the easiest option, I do at times use a variety of ships but they are all stored on my carrier.

I only plan to replace a few existing FSD's with the new Ludicrous Speed FSD's. I have already done the size 3 for my courier, since it is my bubble jumper and mat farmer. I will also buy a 4a and a 5a new FSD and engineer those. I will move them between ships as needed to see what happens with the FSD's before I think about updating the rest of my fleet.

The amount of mats needed to redo every ship I own is way too much. And I also think that Sirius Corp will not take this lightly, and probably start a war, or outright steal the engineering plans and come out with their own competing drive real soon. It is what they do

Brought my python in the store now cannot find in the game, any ideas.
Top right of the station menu is a button (I forget the title on the button) it is next to the one for buying cosmetics from the arx store. In there you deploy the ship at your current station. Then it is selected as normal.
