I think its rather sad that whenever anything good happens, people show up demanding to know why something else didnt happen. Its a really negative state of mind. As a pc-player: good for those Xbox one X players, hope they enjoy it. :)

I think this is a very poignant but correct statement. You are right..................it is sad. But why? Why is it sad? is it sad because the ED community in general are content wanting crazed lunatics who are never happy with the 'lot', or is it sad because it's just plain broken. Shallow. Not as promised or as sold. I end my case ma lud.

Indeed a touch more positivity wouldn't hurt anyone. Bugs in 2.4 are no doubt being addressed and will come in good time.

But if we are all going to be Internet asses, the addition of Xbox One X enhanced support for Elite Dangerous was announced before the release of 2.4.
Therefore if only one thing can be done at a time as many people seem to think, the Xbox One X support was in the queue before the 2.4 bugs. So I am sure FD will be working on them right now. :D

For me at least, it's more frustration that Frontier have insisted that development focus on other platforms will have zero impact on 'larger picture' development. And yet the more Frontier spread their platform focus for the game the longer it seems to be that anything at all happens beyond touch-ups and stability fixes for the latest platform release.

Admittedly Frontier have always been sucky at reacting to bugs and broken behaviour that isn't directly tied to something they can fix with network/backend... but pretty much any sign of much happening now seems to happen weeks if not months later than it used to.

And when something like a build update does happen, chances are it looks like this one and just includes one or two lines like:

"Fixed shadows not correctly rendering in 0.001% fringe cases on PS4".

The update for Xbox1X is a graphics update, I'm fairly certain that FDev employ different people for different tasks, like people that work on engine programming, UI programming, gameplay programming etc.

I'm not dissatisfied with ED but there are a lot of annoying bugs that have been introduced in 2.4 that are either;

A. Not being addressed by FD.
B. Feedback isn't being fed back to the community other than "we're looking into it", which isn't encouraging from a players perspective.
C. Are regressions from previous versions, which shows lacklustre QA testing and version control.

I don't think it's entirely unreasonable for the PS4 or XBox community to be upset with this latest patch given FD have pumped resources into this patch, rather than addressing the growing list of unresolved bugs.

The bugs effecting gameplay seems to upset more than just “< some random person on the internet >”, there is a sizeable existing PS4 user base out there that are somewhat unhappy with FD’s lack of response in addressing them. The XBOXOX is a new console with a currently limited user base. It would make more sense to address the current platform bugs so that they don’t pass onto the new console and ultimately never get fixed

A : User-base size is a bad argument. There's a pretty big player-base on XBox, and a large number of us are getting an X specifically for Elite.
B : Point A is irrelevant because they've probably been working on this patch for some time, well before the PS4 issue emerged, and it's pretty unlikely that the folk responsible for maintaining the Xbox code-base are also the people responsible for maintaining the PS4 code-base.

<some random person on the internet> as you refer to, so happens to be the first ones on site......................the PC players and then the PS4 players. Bust.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here... Not only were Xbox players here a long while before the PS4 players, but that's also utterly irrelevant. "We were here first - eeeeeeee" is a terrible argument for why they should prioritize you.
FDev should get around to fixing that stuff, and I'm sure they will. But because all players are important to them, not because "We were here first".

They already have a full range of graphic settings on PC. This patch does not seem to me more than selecting two sets of optimal settings for a new hardware, and one new resolution. Kind of trivial and would be pretty stupid not to do when you can attract or keep a lot of customers.

I have been here since 1.0, and I dont really know when you think the updates were timely. From the very start it has been a common complaint that FD responds very slow to bugs, if at all. I agree its a problem, and a rather frustrating one. But the only thing that changed with consoles being added to FD is that people now blame the consoles for problems we've had since day 1. Besides, do you really think that whomever is responsible for Xbox One X graphics stuff is the same one doing cross-platform bugfixing? Personally I doubt it.

So sure, FD should fix bugs faster, but lets seperate the two issues. This is a good thing for Xbox One X players, so cheers to them.

Wow, didn't realize the extent to which the whiners troll random threads to complain about whatever's got their collective panties in a bunch this time.

Sadly that seems the be the state of every single thing that Frontier announce for Elite these days. It really does make reading Reddit threads or this forum an exercise in frustration.

Yes - there are bugs. There will always be bugs.

Yes - there might be some valid concerns about how quickly some of the more painful ones are being fixed (or not - most of the time these "game breaking" bugs are blown out of proportion).

No - releasing for multiple platforms is not slowing down development (it's as slow as it ever was ;) ) - Frontier have a team in the tens if not hundreds working on this game, they don't all drop everything and work on one single bug or feature at once.

Anyway. Thanks Frontier - I can't wait for my Xbox One X Scorpio Edition to turn up so I can enjoy 4K Elite. It has been by far the game I've most looked forward to with the enhanced console.

Thanks, I will, hopefully later today.

Glares at Amazon.

Besides, isn't there a separate console development team for ED? I'm not sure why when any work is done on the console versions, some people think that work on the PC version is being delayed.

Its even more fluid than that. People think that there is just a uniform resource called 'ED devs', but thats not how it works. There are people with specific console experience, who will work not just on ED Xbox, for example, but are most likely also working on future console releases of JWE and PC. Then you have graphic artists that will switch between projects. Others will work on ED exclusively, but cross-platform (an AI improvement isn't platform dependent, for example). That is why questions such as "How many people work on ED?!" are inherently pointless. The only honest answer is "Depends on what you mean and which day you ask."
