Call it morbid curiosity.
Also, I don't get high on my own supply.
bit rubbish to be hating consoles over FDevs (possible) failures thoughThat was just the short version. From grade 2 or 3, he should slowly be able to grasp a few sentences in a row in their context and also learn to understand the concept of slightly ironic comments. In any case, we can say at this point that one does not become an adult by classifying others as pre-school children.
Fair enough. Maybe "toxicity" is the wrong word. "Adamant negativity" might be more accurate. In fairness, I used to frequent a forum for almost 12 years that was ... let's say self-moderating (lax owners who got bought up by a conglomerate, forum's been disbanded since, I guess the content wasn't aligned with the corporate brand of the new owners of the site to put it mildly).
While it was nowhere near anything like 4/8chan and the like, I certainly grew a thick skin there, and the regulars were generally pretty decent people and would tell those who weren't in no uncertain terms where to go (and there were a handful of those, some stuck around like flies to, constantly getting banned, re-registering and winding people up - there was no limitation on the discussion topics either). It was still a lovable anarchy kind of place in a way, but got between the wheels of the modern, clean, corporate internet.
This place in comparison is like the most well behaved, but also most stricly moderated forum (at times more than I'd like... but I can understand why it is the way it is)... sure, some stuff still flies under the radar but normally tends to get sorted pretty swiftly... I definitely wouldn't consider this forum toxic, even though some individuals can grate now and then but the ignore function works quite well, not that I had to use it in quite a while now. And it's very rare (to my eyes at least) when someone crosses a line; those individuals are usually gone as quickly as they appear, and forgotten from one's memory even quicker.

Ok, that makes it easier to appreciate the angle you're coming from.Fair enough. Maybe "toxicity" is the wrong word. "Adamant negativity" might be more accurate.
It literally never seems to matter what is asked, announced, or apologized for by the CMs. The modus operandi of most folks who talk about Elite seems to be "nihilistically decry the game as perpetually inadequate, and maybe if we do it loud enough we'll get the toys we want". I have literally seen folks on this forum try to shout down folks whose opinion is "this is okay and I can live with it" because being even tepidly positive might convince FDev not to continue working on the game.
In fairness, there are things this game could do better, and there are decisions about communication and development that could be better or clearer. But I have rarely if ever seen a developer tell their players in exacting detail all the things that are coming and how soon. Same for taking on direct player feedback and making those exact design choices because the player community demanded it. Things show up when they show up, maybe with an upcoming announcement or a public beta test.
Sorry for an off-topic swerve, but Satisfactory, for example, has some of the most lauded CMs and developers ever. People love Snutt and Jace. People love Coffee Stain and how they design that game. But I've watched them say plenty of times "We can't give an update on that yet", and the players generally respond "aww, ok". I've watched them say "we aren't doing X requested feature, ever, because it conflicts with what we as developers want our game to be", and the players respond "bummer, ok". People don't decry it as the end of the whole entire universe and a betrayal that caused them to fall out of love with their soulmate. It's just "ok, thanks for the info". Maybe it's accepted more because they say it as "hey yeah sorry my dudes this won't happen" instead of a more "corporate" way of saying it? But they're saying the same stuff.
I guess to wind up this ramble; nothing puts me off of playing this game more than listening to people talk about it, because it is almost always negative. I can't blame the CMs for having difficulty communicating with us, because there is very little patience or goodwill for what they have to say. I understand that there are people out there who kickstarted this thing and are mad that X thing that David Braben talked about wanting to put in the game hasn't happened yet. But if every time they try to talk to us, the pitchforks come out, and every time they don't talk to us, the pitchforks come out, then what exactly is the CM team supposed to do?
As for Arf's original statement? What I'm personally hoping is that the subtext brought up by CMDR Buur in his recent video is at least generally close; that right now Arf and his team are putting pressure on management to give them some actual information and timelines they can publicly share with us. I would not blame the CMs one bit if they're in meetings with their bosses saying "you need to give us answers to these questions so that we can answer them for everyone else".
There's not much there to discuss, which is probably one of the reasons the thread got derailed anyway. How about discussing the OP? Radical suggestion I know, but still......
Kickstarter-era concept art is one of their fortés. They go so well with all the other stuff in the Galnet articles that you don't get to see (yet). Lively planets, bustling cities, et cetera.(...) other than the 6-7 year old portraits drawn of them?
Ah but "yes" to which bit of the question, or all of them?Yes.
No.Ah but "yes" to which bit of the question, or all of them?thats like an answer FD would give.
That would have been 'possibly' as my response was too affirmative!Ah but "yes" to which bit of the question, or all of them?thats like an answer FD would give.
Or increase interdictions could do the trick.I have an idea!
If FDev were to increase SC speed, we'd all be playing the game more instead of nipping over here to either write inanities or to moan. Two flies swatted in one go, more players active in the game, and lessfor the CM to wade through!
