Update on Communication

So … was the client / server version that supported Mac archived and released as per the other quoted post from Mr Braben …

No, Mac OS users are able to continue to use their existing account using windows (native on a PC or via bootcamp as the post I linked to states). I understand the frustration about not being able to play natively but the servers are still up (obviously) and the account can still be accessed via a different OS.

If Console support were similarly shelved those accounts could potentially be transferred by FDev to a PC account but while many Mac owners have hardware capable of meeting the minimum requirements and perhaps already have bootcamp (it's useful to have Windows installed for lots of other reasons), I can imagine many console players may not have a suitably beefy PC to play ED on, particularly Odyssey.

The archiving & releasing process would be relevant to a situation where FDev switched off the game servers & ED was turned into a standalone game or one that linked to community funded servers.

And you were doing so well. He didn't say anything ridiculous about ship interiors at all. He said something very sensible, after all even Star Citizen doesn't have any useful gameplay for ship interiors, does it?
Personally, i dont get the rush for ship interiors at all, go use this console, go use that console, go back to seat, fly, go use that console go use that other console, go back to seat and fly, get very repetitive very quickly in my eyes, remote compute is where its at ;)

I n my opinion it would be best if using interiors was optional. Or maybe even mandatory, but only for certain multicrew ships.

It's really amazing. Here is a thread about upcoming communication, and in a few days it's overtaken the thread announcing the end of OSX support.. Well done everyone! :D

Yes, that's somewhat of an elephant in the room.. But who knows, maybe they had some valid reasons for that..

If nothing else all console and PC commanders would have started clamouring for the same thing, which might have been a pain to support and led to everyone playing offline instead of online like now.

I just hope that if Frontier announce something bad, ie dropping consoles, the community would be adult enough to understand and accept it.

BUT I've seen this community from before Elite Dangerous was even announced and I think I can predict what the community's reaction would be.

I hope that people will eventually work out that 'the community' doesn't have a single voice.

People will react probably dependant on whether their access to the game, present or future, is being affected or not. Adults who are being treated differently will probably react differently.

@Bottom Hat, Isn’t this trademarked yet?

Mr. Hat is trademark of TBAG and we will sue, at the minimum, anyone stealing or luring him away! Besides, his shed is under our patronage. So you're right. 👯‍♀️

As for the OP and being on topic here, it turned out that Frontier's Interim report released in November more or less had to confess that not only the EDO launch had been disppointing, but JWE 2 kept below expectations too. Overall, they made about 1.7m pounds minus IIRC. Which is not good. Could be the November report led to further consequences we now see and admire. https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2022-01-12-frontier-sees-net-loss-of-1-7m

O7,

If console support were to be dropped, my reaction would very much depend on what gets offered in terms of platform transfer for my PS CMDR.

I have a PC account. It’s woefully behind on Horizons progress but has some Odyssey progress. So, ideally, I’d want to merge those two accounts …

I was surprised by the asking price for JWE: 2.

Just don't mention which system it's in! It is a closely guarded secret as my friend and colleague here knows!
