Update on Communication

Except they are certainly not paying customers for the Odyssey expansion, are they? So where is your issue? You have not bought the expansion, do not have any issues with the expansion, so have no case, yes?

Anyway, I get 60 FPS in ground conflict zones in 4K resolution, so everyone else must be getting the same, surely? So everyone should stop compaining and enjoy all of that 4K goodness, shouldn't they?

(Isn't this how the usual debate goes, because I have XXX then everyone else does?)

Anyway, steam has just proven to me that Elite Dangerous is dead, so we have nothing to discusss, so may as well end the debate now:

(amazing how steam proves whatever one wishes to 'prove', isn't it?)
Mate, you’re going out of context.

my point was clear, console players are paying in the same way for the game like pc gamer, I bet there a lot of cmdrs, who buys arx for the cosmetics. That’s was my point, no need to drift into another subject.

Well, EDO players paid for a product that is pretty janky.

Console players paid for a product that works fine.

And console players get the same game as pc players, where both paid for ED/Horizons. I think that was what Rat Catcher said? Sounds right to me.

Console players aren't paying more arx for their cosmetics as far as I know.

If that place is Hutton Orbital, then just do it now. I stumbled into it in my first week of playing the game recently and it was no big deal. Keep the forum open while you are doing the 1 hour commute, make a cup of tea, maybe have a biscuit. Then you can tick this 'milestone' of your list of a thousand things to do before i die or whatever it is that you feel is holding you back ;)
Why not just use a Fleet Carrier and do it in 15 minutes?

I would prefer to say, it’s running semi good, especially when minor bugfixes arrived, the last one shows this as an good example. Therefore some bugfix for EDO caused some problems on consoles.

Yeah... You bought Horizons, not EDO... It is true.

You might buy Arx, but only through the platform providers own store. Drift into another subject, matey? Never! :ROFLMAO:

ETA: Drifting into another subject? Isn't a similar thing happening on virtually every EDO discussion thread, or even a post by a CM? In comes the comments from players who don't even have the expansion. Even the livestreams last year were plagued by the same off-topic comments.

The split off, comes from peoples who think, they deserved a special treatment. For me personally I’ll see it like Fdev by themself, the game is Multiplattform. So when peoples come into a stream and ask constantly about certain things like, console release ETA, ship interior, vr support, the because they playing all the same game in its core, and this is Elite dangerous. So then it’s valid. I mean, look now? The community included the loyalist one, are upset with this statement, and guess what? It’s due to radio silence, which affected are part of the community since nearly a year, now everyone is effected. But when one console player is involved it’s like, hey go off this is not your topic. Kind of weird.

so to be clear, the splitt off is happening, here into the forum, and begins with people who constantly demand full attention for themself. I can living with the fact that the EDO guys need some cares.

So does your position mean you're happy with Odyssey adding more bugs to the game on console or that these are a problem? Or that the bugfixes cause so many issues that it would be better if Odyssey didn't come to console at all?

From my view the whole thing about demanding we have timelines for when it gets released on console is tantamount to saying we'd accept any old rubbish so long as it was a release. Fortunately Frontier seem to disagree.

The current position is the game would be a shambles on console. Until they say otherwise that is where they are and there is little point in repeating that.

Glad the split off (whatever that means) is happening, multi-platform doesn't imply that there is any obligation to continue supporting any particular platform if the developer / publisher deem so.

Back to the circular argument, as usual... There was an announcement that console development on EDO was stopped in order to put right the shambles EDO released as. This has been reiterated many times by CMs - with the assurance that as soon as further information was made available it would be passed on... But, the off-topic discussions continue, despite these assurances. Which some console players believe to be acceptable, isn't that odd?

Had Frontier given all of the players who paid for EDO a refund and pulled the expansion until it was in a fit state to be released on the platform(s) they intend supporting it on, that would have been a sensible solution to the situation that currently exists. Then at least Frontier would have been able to announce, with authority, the actual platform(s) being supported on the expansion.

Edit: Typos and "all" removed for clarity.

You're talking about console players, right?

I've been reading the last few pages and while I am still somewhat empathic towards them, that empathy is fading fast given some of the ludicrous arguments brought up by "you guys".

The other thing is, having played EDO on a non potato for a while now (which means performance is no longer a distraction from its many gameplay shortcomings), I can tell you you'll be almost guaranteed to be disappointed after hyping yourselves so much over it.

Honestly, if I was on console, I would've begrudgingly interpreted the ongoing non statements from Frontier as a "probably not gonna happen" after all these months and moved on, or if I was that desperate to play EDO just get a PC (not that I would recommend this as EDO isn't worth a major expense like that even after all the patching done imo), instead of going on "are we there yet" like kids on the backseat. It's really starting to grate at this point.

Not all. ;)

TBH, when you explain the level of hardware needed to get Odyssey running somewhat smoothly (certainly based on various YouTube videos I've seen) a lot of people do realise the scale of the problem and many won't bother posting here about it because what's the point given that there's no news.

You'll always get the die-hards though.

Those inverted commas were put in to not throw moderates like yourself in the same bucket:)

Apart from performance (which is still very uneven and random as well, instance change fixes the latter usually) gameplay is the bigger issue for me now. Apart from arcade style CZs (with no other reason to visit i.e. you don't even get to farm mats there, just credits) there's little reason to visit settlements once you're past the engineering grind (I just finished it based on my goals), and plant scanning is (imo) extremely dull and repetitive. Again purpose is just sightseeing and credits, nothing else.

I've started playing other games again as I log on into EDO, ask myself "now what?" and log off... The CG ongoing currently is a complete joke so that's not motivating me either. I lost my Elite mojo because EDO doesn't add all that much to the game. YMMV of course but I often wonder if those who haven't played it don't overestimate what it actually adds to Elite.

Or maybe, if you were on console (I have a PS4 and am on Sony's "We might sell you a PS5" mailing list) and had taken notice of the "We'll tell you as soon as we know", you, like me, would be sitting waiting, rather than continually asking?

Indeed, EDO is highly unlikely to run satisfactorily on hardware with the specification published by Frontier. (I can brute force play, I'm OK) So it is equally unlikely to run on last generation consoles... Yet the current generation console crowd insist it would run wonderfully on their kit - despite Frontier making it clear that current gen would be supported with backward compatibility at the time of making their announcements. (I doubt it would be spectacular even on current gen stuff, in its current state, maybe at 1080 and medium settings it could hit 30 FPS)

The mean spirited part of me wishes they'd release it on the potato consoles in its current state. Imagine the salt tsunami that would ensue. My laptop which can run ED at mostly high settings at 45-60fps really struggles with Odyssey, despite reducing settings to low, and even with lower resolution it performs very poorly but worst of all it looks absolutely dreadful to add insult to injury.

My laptop is about the same - EDH is plain sailing (even HL: Alyx (VR) on my Index is fine) but EDO is pretty much not worth bothering with, at least until optimisation about doubles the current FPS I get. (And, probably like your Laptop, the specs exceed those published, and is considerably more powerful than my PS4)

Personally, if you'd have asked me 4 years ago what I'd have wanted I'd have gone for atmospheric worlds (as we have) but with SRV gameplay being fleshed out much more than it is. The whole of Odyssey has a feeling of someone biting off more than they could chew and now here we are with this added dimension of being on foot, which still doesn't seem to mesh together fully yet (sphere of combat, anyone?).

I'll quite happily run round settlements shooting rockets into the face of anything that has one or collecting stuff on far flung places to go build or sell things, but I could do that in other games. No other game I've played does what ED Horizons does in terms of flying a ship or even bouncing an armed moon buggy into/over craters for that matter and I don't think anyone should get particularly worried about something that doesn't build on that.

This is my thinking as well- rather than really putting meat on the bones we got more skeleton to gnaw on.
