VR support 'not at launch' for Odyssey

Why would they engage with the forum when all they see is
AAAAGAGAGAGAGAGGAAAAHGGGGGGHHHHH IMMMA RAGE AAAGGGGGGAAGGGGHHHHHH YYYYYYYY NO VR??????????

Yes I'm exaggerating, but think about it from their POV. Would you want to deal with an angry mob with flaming torches and pitchforks?
They are still going to get Monday

No more weird than getting a knotted up over speculation.
Calm down rather than shut down.

I’m perfectly calm thanks.

I’ve just got a lot of experience reading the tea leaves regarding FDev’s announcements & plans. And I’m very aware of the difficulties involved in adding VR to Odyssey (and the poor potential ROI that it entails for FDev).

Both past experience and current facts in this case strongly suggest that FDev could baulk at the risks involved, despite having supported VR against the odds previously.

Personally I’m just choosing to help keep VR on the Community Team’s agenda, looking to transmit VR passion to the team behind the scenes (many of whom doubtless share it), and seeking to provoke further scatterings of official tea leaves so I can examine them ;)

It was supposed to be released at the end of this year. They already delayed to next year. It's not coming out for at least 6 months. Nothing is getting rushed here.
Yep and the leaking of the trailer has seemingly got in amongst that schedule

So you are confirming VR is coming just delayed from launch? I think that needs to come from the Devs because other "not at launch features have not appeared in 5 years.

As for all that is going on in the world.... Seriously get over yourself. This is an ED forum so every issue is within the context of ED. Your logic is that anyone can do what ever they want to other people so long as there is something worse elsewhere

FD turn the servers off and call it a night......... Don't complain because somewhere there is a war going on..... That makes no sense.

ok, say you had a driving game and you bought a steering wheel for it - then they wanted to bring out some management dlc that had nothing to do with the driving part, but you would complain that the management dlc was not compatable with your wheel "I want to enter text and move the mouse using my wheel, I don't want to use a mouse and keyboard I want to use my wheel and peddles - you should support it. Stop locking us out!!" right?

What about if a flight sim brought out some ATC dlc you'd complain if it wasn't immediatly VR compatible on day 1 as with the rest of the flight sim because you want to sit around in the ATC looking at blurry VR monitor screens, when you could just use your actual screen

All I'm saying is, people outside of FD know nothing about this update so how can you know if it'll be a decent VR experience?

Oh Lordy, I shouldn’t get involved in analogies, but here we go:

Ok, say you had a driving game and you bought an expensive steering wheel for it - then the devs wanted to bring out some management dlc that had nothing to do with the driving part but also included 12 new racing tracks that looked absolutely awesome, but then the devs said you can only use mouse and keyboard on the new tracks because the management side requires it.

Then a load of people who don’t have steering wheels tell you to shut up and stop complaining because m&kb is fine even though they’ve never used steering wheels 🤷‍♂️

But your analagy suggests you know what's going to be in this dlc... you don't, so how can you understand what kind of VR experience it may offer?

Also, isn't that a bit like saying, well they support XBOX one, so they should always support it for all future DLC on sequals or whatever. That kind of limits the potential, one day nobody will be using the Xbox one.

I actually have a VR headset for what it's worth, I was amongst the first people to put ED VR on Youtube

I don't think anyone is saying "shut up", just that isn't it a bit more reasonable to wait, see what the gameplay actually is, and let them do it properly rather than demand that they slap in something half baked at launch or demand that they back peddle on two years of work and go back to the design stage?

The press release mentions:
Experience intense first-person combat, kit out your character with an array of weapons and gear, and coordinate with teammates to master a multi-layered, deep, tactical environment where Commanders, SRVs and Starships converge.
...and the video appears to show an atmospheric planet. Those planets are the absolutely awesome 12 new racing tracks. I know I can experience flying and driving on planets in ED in VR, it’s great.

If FDev were to drop support for the Xbox, like they did for Macs or 32-bit computers, I’d expect a very definitive statement on it and the reasons why, not an ambiguous “not at launch” forum post.

Edit after reading your edit: there certainly are a few “I’m sick of all the VR whining” posts knocking around, and personally I wouldn’t want something cobbled together for launch, but I would like a definite yay or nay as to if it was eventually going to be arriving or not.

Very possible they can't get acceptable frame rates needed for VR from the new tech

IF FD had said VR not at launch but we are committed to getting it in reasonably soon after launch then I would agree.
I don't buy that thisndlc has some mythical features which simply can't work in VR. Perhaps it's hard on VR legs in which case put a warning up (like there is already on oculus store with VR intensity ratings).
Perhaps it's hard on hardware in which case put the requirements on there. It's been a long long time since software truly pushed the hardware but that is something which was par for the course for pc gaming.

What could possibly be in this dlc which is somply not compatible with VR. At the very least the whole game could be in VR but go into cinema.mode for legs whilst something better was cooking. Using text and mouse statedgy games with a wheel is simply a dishonest comparison.
The not at launch comment given FDs history and the wording of the comment sounds like blatant platitudes to me. The ONLY hope players who have zero interest in playing out of VR but want access to the new features have is to let FD know in no uncertain terms they won't support the game.. it's a long shot... But it's worked before (sometimes for better sometimes not imo) but it really is shi. Or bust for me as the saying goes so I may as well go all in, as have a few others.

The problem there is it's expecting them to commit to something that might still not be technically possible, like I said the frame-rate prevented Planet coaster from getting VR that it really needed for the coaster rides. Then if they say a definate "no" that's kind of also rulling out that things improve as people upgrade hardware and stuff or if they have enough developers available to actually put together a solution that works well.

When they do commit to stuff it doesn't go well, as this thread prooves with people digging up five years old videos
