Wait, wait, wait! So even when you`ve bought everything you still have to buy the Beta?

I bought a return train ticket the other day to the coast. Once of those fancy ones that you dont have to go a set time and can come back any day within a month. Dashed expensive so it was I tell ya and no mistake. I was well miffed when I was bared from 1st class! I said "Wait, wait, wait! So even when you`ve bought everything you still have to buy the correct ticket?" Chap in uniform (grr!) said ' No you havent bought everything. Wat you 've dun me ol' chin is not paid for access to 1st class." He had an excellent sense of humor.

Frontier needs our help to get their game straight.
And WE must pay THEM, to give that help. :D

Someone is getting ripped off. [yesnod]

It's all a matter of perspective. It's not a rip-off, if I get something I value: A chance to experiment with new features without any risk to my main account.

Then apply to be a QA tester. Playing an early access version of a game at your own leisure is not any form of work, let alone work that deserves payment. I don't see them begging for people to play the beta. They don't need anything try living in reality.

OP - Why so excited about the Beta? As an original Premium Beta Backer I didnt bother buying Beta for Horizons.

Theres no point getting it unless you have the time to actually test the game for FD and give them feedback on issues, I dont get that impression from your post. It appears to me you want an early look at whats coming up (apologies if Im wrong).

But ask yourself why? You get to see the new features a couple of weeks in advance, these may be bugged, but your progress within the beta server are not reflected in your live account when the release goes into production. You may as well wait and enjoy the release version and spend the time waiting playing your real commander and increasing your ranks, Cr and having fun.

Beta basically gives you nothing.

This is exactly the point. It's not a testing job - it's early access to new, experimental features in a safe environment before they are generally available. We play the game - do crazy stuff that you wouldn't usually risk - and have great fun.

We feed back any problems we encounter to FD, and we also talk about things that might be changed before release to make the game better and these are often taken on board.

It's enjoyable playing the game in this way and contributing to the direction the game is taking - that's why there is value and why people pay to be a part of it.

Wasn't Premium Beta the 120EUR bracket? If yes you should have access to all future content and betas. At least that's what mine is called and I do get everything every time an update is released.

For me the beta is a chance to test drive the new functionalities and get used to it before it hits live. That why for instance I wasn't muderrolled by the new AI when it was introduced. And if more people had seen it, maybe we wouldn't have had to turn them into mindless idiots again :\

I also think that actually, you might get a better 'test in the wild' with a pay-to-join, than you would with giving it for nothing. As you're invested in it, there's more motivation to actually test? (Then it's a numbers game .. it's a big galaxy, you want lots of eyes, to spot issues)

And the games industry is the only industry where that kind of stuff is acceptable. I'm almost glad there is no modding, then Fdev would have even less reason to fix their game. "Just mod it!"

I'd say 'viable' rather than 'acceptable'.

Also consider that running a public beta has a considerable cost - charging users will help limit numbers to keep the costs down, engagement high and will help offset to costs of the beta.

It all makes good sense to me.

Oh...
Living in reality....

You certainly put things into perspective. :D
Enjoy the beta, my good Sir. [yesnod]

I am happy for you. :)

Same here and as a bonus I get all future content without spending another penny ... what's the issue here ? :S

There is no issue.
It's just for some people, whenever FD does anything, it is a gut level, knee-jerk, instinctive reaction to whine and complain because somehow it is not benefitting them directly and immediately. And, since they are super special, that must be very wrong.

Doing job for someone else and pay for it? It's like going to work so you can pay them. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. NO!
Does my name says free slave workforce? You test it for me and i get final stable version. :)

Also i don't want beta, i just like to complain about unpaid work.
