I play in a pretty varied way, I travel around, I trade, do missions & explore, I shoot at stuff until it pops then collect the stuff that falls out.

So as far as the new materials & data collection is concerned I have collected a lot of everything, many of my bins are full, I miss the dilemma of whether I need an item or not, but I'm much less concerned about using them now & will regularly craft limpets or reload my ammo & SRV, where before I tended to be miserly with my mats.

But you know what I don't do much as part of my regular gameplay? Scan Wakes. Sure I'll chase the occasional baddie that gets away from me, but in normal play that's like one scan per session.

So I go & sit 5-10km out from the station & scan a load of wakes every so often, which feels a bit gamey tbh.

FDev, any chance we could reduce the requirement for these things to a level appropriate with actual gathering rate? Or maybe increase the number of bits of data each scan gives.

Each scan already gives you 3 of them. That is plenty I think.

If you want oddles of data. Find a system in Famine and locate the distribution center. In 30 min you'll have more then enough data to trade up and trade down at the mat trader to keep you set for a while.

You get 3x most stuff, I'm saying wake scanning still doesn't fill my bins like the other mats & data do.

Other than to gather the data is there a reason why a player would scan all those wakes as you suggest? Just seems like artificially farming to me, like I said, a bit gamey :)

Wake scanners are good for trading. Find a place that sells medicines and scan wakes and they will usually lead you to a system in Outbreak. Same from a Agriculture system find famine systems. If you are into piracy you can track prey also and catch them in a Anarchy System and rob and tag them with no law to worry about.

Chasing NPCs is a rare act of desparation, following wakes is something I do maybe once per session if I want to do something without gaining a bounty. If I wanted to find a system in famine I'd just filter the galmap, and the only reason I'd specifically look for one would be to gather mats, which is my point :)

I appreciate your suggestions though.

If you just stick a wake scanner on your ship and scan the wakes you see as you leave a station it's less gamey. I got around 50 DWEs doing that, after I had already fully upgraded my ships. Guess I'm set for the Krait now.

Or you can just filter by state and select "outbreak".

I'm going to start doing this, thanks for the reminder.

I recommend NPC piracy - plenty of wake scanning in that :)

If you have a bit of spare power, I can highly recommend A Rated Wake Scanner, with G5 Fast Scan. 3km Scan range, and a duration less than a Honk. Makes those 2 or 3 wakes whenever you exit a station a tasty snack.
