war is not funny in that way.

i tried to battle with thargoids. and entering system. the engins and systems directly shutdown by thargoids and ship explode. that makes no fun to fight against the thargoids. and i hat 4 enymies directly. dear

Fd team. play the war stuff by urself. and have fun. but i think a legacy server with ody includes is badly missing. i do not like the war stuff with dead systems after all. it is boring

elite was dangoures before update 14. but no it is useless . or uninteresting.
The key word is BORING. I expected a lot more from update 14. It gave us the same existing content but in couple of new scenarios and more thargoid CZ.
And you are absolutely right , there is nothing to do in the thargoid controlled systems. Nothing to do at the inactive stations and settlements. I was expecting some fun and dangerous scavenging gameplay with some on foot thargoids.

War is neither funny nor fair. This is a game and it is entertainment. However, if you look at it as a social experiment it is interesting. First of all people want to join the war, without having any idea of the consequences, mainly because they expect the game to be fair. If the game should reflect RL, then I find that pretty realistic.

Secondly, it seems that the old saying, that "Nothing unites humans like a common enemy", is true. Both in the game and here on the forum.

War is never funny IRL. Why should it be when it is simulated?
It is BORING
a game should be fun to play. ED was my favorite game for years but I am fed up of the lack of content. I expected something new but instead received the old gameplay in new cover.

I agree... I don't play games that are not fun either.

But I am playing the new content in ED U14 alongside my other, more normal, activities, but not to the point of boredom or fustration...

U14 was a narrative update, it provided new, theme based, content - which if it wasn't interesting beforehand isn't likely to inspire now.

Plenty of other stuff to do - and if that is boring - well the choice is your own what to do, isn't it?

I can think of many words that describes the Elite Universe, and I personally have a lot of things I'd like different, but "boring" is not the first word that pop up for me.

What does boring even mean? You might think it is a trick question, but I don't work that way. I couldn't define what boring means, even if I tried. Yet you and many other humans use terms like boring and fun, as if everybody know what it means.

The obvious answer you could give, would be something like: "I cannot give you a definition of the term boring, but I know it when I feel bored". That is how most humans work, but it is neither a good explanation nor necessarily true.

I tried to ask Elons new chatbot "ChatGPT" about the meaning of the word Boring. It answered something along the lines of "Boring is the opposite of Interesting". Then I asked it, if that wasn't a circular argument, to which it agreed. I "love" that thing as a tool, but I also find it somewhat scary.

If you haven't tried asking the AI questions, I highly recommend trying it. It is free and here is a link:

Interesting idea, but I'm not getting anywhere near Elon. Things blow up...

Why is it neither good nor necessarily true? Sounds like a very good explanation to me.

Nothing's fundamentally, objectively boring anyway, it varies from person to person (and sometimes I'd say it says more about the person if they find a particular thing boring than it does about the thing), but it's a state of mind we're all familiar with and should all be able to empathise with. Language can only ever really describe things in terms relative to other experiences anyway.

Boring is a feeling. It is, as you say, very subjective. I have felt bored (though rarely), so I can empathize with the feeling, but not everything is subjective. I would rather claim that there is some form of objective reality and thereby truth. There is probably a better definition of boring than the opposite of interesting (or any synonym thereof) but it seems that we don't have one. It's like saying that cold is the opposite of warm, without really understanding that it's all about temperature. :alien:

When we say "cold" or "warm" we're again really referring to our experiences and are subjectively relating things relative to them too. An absolute measure of temperature is neither cold nor warm, it's just a number saying what the temperature is.

There are objective facts about the world around us of course, but language isn't all that good with them, since we can ultimately only describe them in terms that stem back to our relative experiences, even though they are many steps removed. And emotional experiences are at heart entirely subjective. And are the most important ones there are for us. Take music - objectively it's just a series of sound frequencies. It's the subjective that makes it great, and it frequently happens that what's great for one person in music is dreadful for another, yet neither can be truthfully right or wrong about which is great and which dreadful. Doesn't stop music from being one of life's great joys for many, and it's no less meaningful for there being no absolute truth about what's good music.

Maybe, but you could also argue that the number held more useful information than cold or warm.

Good point you have there. I'm not saying feelings are not a thingy. Yet, if someone feels bored while playing ED right now, it's not really a particularly objective statement, which was my original point :alien:
