Part of the game but unethical. Its like the bowler running somebody out for backing up, its just not cricket.

Just dispiriting and cowardly. But unfortunately that's what we have to look forward to until better anti cheating coding is implemented. Add them to your blocked list and publish the name on another forum - as above. Personally I avoid private or solo as I refuse to let such children push us out and I've always flown in exploration fully armed just in case of such an incident but even that is probably pointless when encountering cheaters. It really is just dumb immature behaviour.

I too fly a A-spec CobraMkIII, with a rack of beam lasers, shields and mirrored surface composite alloy. It was for pure RP reasons and was quite happy to sacrifice the jump range and now quite happy I did.

I've just covered the last ~40K ly in an asp with a 28ly range, and a reasonable combat loadout. We dont all fly FSD's with life support

It will take more than one tool in Sag A to stop me exploring in open. Personally I like the risk...it keeps me focussed...lol

That sounds suspiciously like you are saying the its the victim's fault for being attacked for no reason other than someone else's anti-social lulz.

I did have shields, I'd just forgotten to turn them on before going to Sag A. I'd actually arrived there late last night, so had completed Buckyball with its "must be in open" requirement. I'd logged in this morning, and stupidly didn't choose solo since I'd now completed Buckyball. I'm flying around in SC to show my 6 & 9 year old the super massive black hole at the centre of the galaxy and the amazing lensing effects. Whilst watching the amazing show I start dropping out of supercruise. I initially thought (because I'm looking up at the BH) I'd just got too close, I actually couldn't see the "interdiction" warning until after it had completed. By then its too late to run or get my shields up. So there were definitely things I could have done to stop myself getting mugged 26kly from any form of law enforcement.

Thankfully I've enough notes and screenies that I can find most of the interesting systems I visited. Hopefully I'll still get to tag them with my first visited. I won't get to it for a week or so before I've a "window" to do such a long range exploration again, and then 1.3 will be out so I may get distracted. TG its a big galaxy so for others that's a needle in a haystack. Funnily enough I still got to sell the UC data for Sag A.

Although I'm obviously upset that someone has seriously degraded my enjoyment of the game, I accept it is an open environment, and I have to accept Open means playing with anti-social people and there is risk. However what does disappoint me is the lack of mechanisms within the game for better enforcement of consequences for behaviour like this. I would love to be able to put a bounty on the CMDRs head so that those who are so inclined will hunt them down. Once that's been paid, I'd put up another one Maybe just keep earning enough to make sure the bounty is always live. Hopefully something like that small measure of social control would discourage others from such behaviour.

For those who asked they had an Asp and the CMDR has been identified on the exploration forum on reddit.

Funny. I have shields and guns fitted, still getting 32-35 Ly range, flying an Asp. And believe me, in some cases the extra Ly or two makes ALL the difference.

Of course, the ship is not really combat-worthy, but NPCs pose no threat - Asp & smaller I chase away, Dropship/Clipper and tougher I run away from.

Blaming the victim in cases like OP is still wrong. If I think of the psychopaths/griefers/cheaters at all, I just feel sorry for them - I wouldn't want to live in such a sad mental state.

Because cheating in E: D is still too easy and random killing has no consequences whatsoever, I don't risk my precious moments of E: D time playing in Open.

Although I do feel extremely sorry for you, what you're offering right here would turn you into the nasty griefer that ruined your game.
This is probably why we won't see such a feature coming to the game, which sounds fair to me.

Game mechanics allow to run in almost all cases. ASP is fast enough to run. Cobra is fastest ship in game. You are untachable when you have some shields and best thrusters with capacitor.
And when you need 40 ly (this is not needed to get sag A, i made it in FDL with 14.4 ly range), you are taking risk. And Risk is part of the game too.

Of course attacking unarmed explorers is not moral, however we play a game with slavery, killing, drugs. This is sandbox. You can be moral, but some other not, and for them game have lasers

I am not defending the person - they are the lowest of the low in my view - but let's be clear. They have not cheated. Cmdr DoubleSkulls is right - it would be nice to be able to get the name out there, get a Bounty on their head, get a posse together, and cause some grief back.

I only played in Solo when I was out exploring, as for me there was no point in the added overhead of the game client trying to look for others in my instance.

But there's "playing within the rules", and there's just being a complete tool.

The thing is we expect to be griefed in habitable space and yahoo space with the NPC's, just not in the middle of nowhere. I take your point but it is difficult to arm your ship when you are 40Kylies from the nearest station, and ordinarily even in open you are not expecting to run into anything once you are 100Ly from the bubble.
