warning - griefer in Sag A*

Yeah, surprise at the obvious ridiculousness that Elite Dangerous brings to the table insofar as the mechanic of Crime and Consequence is concerned. One can only hope that the Devs address this issue sooner rather than later. Any attempt to justify this type of behaviour within the scope of the 'game' is wholly misguided and serves only to compound the absolute ignorance of those perpetrating the behaviour, never mind those actually condoning/excusing the behaviour.

Reprehensible is what it is.

A nice simple fix I feel for the ridiculousness that is the ED Crime and Consequence mechanic.
Murder removes insurance so dead is dead back to Zero.

I feel for you OP :(

nah this is ridicolous... the insurance prime could go up though or insurance only covers 90% instead of the 95%. But i would like the personal bounty idea most.

Just to let you know that after completing BuckyBall 7 last night I logged back into Sag A* and got attacked and killed by a CMDR for no apparent reason other than their pleasure. Unfortunately I was just enjoying the view and didn't even notice them until they had interdicted me. I believe, due the to rules of the forum, I am not allowed to name and shame the person responsible (I do have screenshots).

For me this is absolutely disgraceful behaviour. I've spent 3 days, visiting over 1000 systems, and now all the hard work is gone, so some swine can kill an unarmed explorer. I was really looking forward to the return trip and being able to take more time to visit the unusual and amazing things in the FD Galaxy.

I'm not a proponent of stopping griefing, but I would love to be able to
1) name and shame publically. If this was RL behaviour public condemnation would be a deterrent.
2) I'd love to be able to put a 5m CR bounty on this player's head.

Anyway, other travellers to Sag A be careful.

You already have named and shamed publicly if the post on reddit is anything to go by. Sorry for your loss but all part of the game. Next time maybe have some shields and be prepared for some peril in the cut throat galaxy. ;)

However, I do support the concept of player bounties. :)

space is not happy pony wunderland. next time stay focused ...

i concur with your suggestion that "bad" behaviour needs to be punished more ingame/infiction though. other then that: you were not griefed and the other cmdr who killed you didnt do anything wrong. (premissed he didnt cheat/hack/exploit)

If no exploits were used then there is nothing wrong here.
''Take control of your own starship in a cutthroat galaxy'' Says it all really.
If you venture out into the black without protection then s*** happens.
So, you're both saying that if some tourist walks to Machu Picchu and some other tourist pulls a gun and shoots the first one, the shooter does nothing wrong?

It seems they are calling this person of interest 'The Sag A Sniper' over in the bucky thread. Also offering 50t of palladium to each member willing to participate in the destruction of the villain. By my math that's 1.5m credit a player.

"Always use words that are sweet and subtle.
You might be eating them tomorrow."

Thanks for the PM OP. I've spread the info around a few other outlets online.

I am saying when speaking of lasers that it is better to have and not need than need and not have. Somewhat Like a previous poster said, you carry around condoms when needed.

Maybe fame is not what they crave...

Sure, actually what it seems to be first and foremost, if you'll excuse the mixed metaphore, is farming "rare" tears. This particular variety of the illicit "tears" commodity, which proved so popular over in the Eve community, is worth more the further you take them.

:D

While the "do anything you want" and "cut-throat galaxy" arguments have a certain validity I'm inclined to agree that the attacker was bit of a bellend. No gain = no point other than to mess up someone's day. If they had something to gain from it (the player's exploration data, for example) then fine, it would have been okay IMHO. But this is just an idiot being an idiot because (s)he gets a kick out of spoiling someone's day. Childish, but there you go, plenty of those types in this game.

Sorry, got to laugh...

In a Skype group, in a galaxy far, far away some of us were talking about kicking off a rumour about this very type of activity (but emphatically not planning to kill CMDRs who made it... just starting off a rumour)....

Looks like someone's beaten the group to it by doing it for real...

My commiserations to the OP though!

Like you say... they're everywhere these days...

This is a game and needs a lot of time put into due to its nature. A griefer/troll is not out to gain anything in game but to destroy the hours the player has put into it. Everyone has a relatively short life in comparison to the Universe. What better way to annoy someone then to waste the time they have invested in it? This is griefer 101 logic

The whole system of justice in Elite: Dangerous is really off, in my opinion. I made a little memepic to make the point...

Rubbish :(

They just like upsetting other players for no other reason than they enjoy upsetting them. Simple as that.

As for the sniper ref - again, just silly. The player is just a childish toy wrecker nothing bigger or better - just sadder :)

Despicable. One thing is dealing with psychos in civilized space. The other is dealing with this vile scum. That [profanity here] surely knew he had nothing to gain with such acts. No one controls Sag A. There are no trading nor combat there. Although the game does allow this kind of behaviours (no rules about carrying and using weapons outside civilized space), which is good (lurking tharghoid menace), shooting down an explorer mate wrecking all of its efforts... I dunno what's best: cut is head off and impale him as a warning for others (aka shooting this guy on sight from this day on) or leave this poor excuse of a player wander around straight to forgetfulness since this kind of scum thrives not only with the pain they inflict as well with attention from others.

How is losing your insurance for committing murder ridiculous ?
With Murder being classed in what I suggest as only killing someone or a NPC who is not wanted and has no bounties on them.

One quick question (unrelated ;)), if, for the sake of argument, one Asp were to ram another Asp at full boost would both ships be pretty much guaranteed destruction?

Thankfully I've enough notes and screenies that I can find most of the interesting systems I visited. Hopefully I'll still get to tag them with my first visited.

Nope, sorry, you've lost them. You cannot rescan things you have already scanned, even if you lost the data. Its a disparity in the game engine, and i would argue it should be changed.

Been having a think about this since I heard...

My inclination now, is to let him rot there, ensure that as many explorers as possible heading in that direction know to hit solo/group to avoid him, and let him suffer the indignity of travelling home on his own, or have him self destruct instead.

I would also suggest that FD need to check this guys account thoroughly in order to check for anything indicating a hack to reach the core in the first place, with a view to perma-banning if appropriate.

Finally, I'd also suggest that since losing exploration data represents the loss of days or even weeks of effort which cannot be repeated (as the systems can never be rescanned) that the approximate value of all the data (before any specific bonuses are added) be added to this guys bounty.

TBH I've been waiting for someone to start "seal clubbing" explorers for a long time, but after so long I was kind of hopeful that at least the community was mature enough to leave the people that work the hardest to avoid pvp situations out of the pvp.

Congratulations to the trigger happy commander. Not content with forcing the traders into solo and group, you've single handedly given us explorers the incentive we needed to move on too. Good luck finding targets like that in future...lol
