was there an optimisation pass at all?

That's current gen consoles. Next gen is PS6.

Frontier have already said they have no plans for a current gen port of the game. They're targeting last gen only.
They might as well target 540p (DRS) on PS4 and XB1. As an ex-Xbox Commander (no longer playing the game), I'm aware of how consoles benefit from fixed-hardware development, but those rusty Jaguar CPU cores in PS4/XB1 can only do so much, especially with the nuPlanet Tech.

Ryzen 3600/GTX 1060 6GB (a hair above the "recommended" spec)
Mix of High/Medium settings at 1080p

20-40 FPS in the on-foot tutorial section
70-90 (capped) in space
15-25 FPS on foot in station
25-35 FPS in SRV practice scenario

I was really hoping I'd be okay with the "recommended" (lol) specs, but I think I might refund it and keep playing Horizons where I can drive my SRV around at a decent framerate.

on a 9700k with 16gb of ram and a 1070ti and i can't hit 60 fps on foot! Have been tinkering with settings and as soon as i look at one of the mpcs alive or dead my frames drops below 60fps even on medium settings really am quiet disappointed
Seems to be some sort of memory leak. If you went through the tutorial and then loaded straight into the game, you get 20fps. Drop to desktop, reload, FPS are back up to expected values.

Changing Graphics Values doesn't fix it for me. I think it's not unloading assets once they drop out of scope.

Definite, i actually logged in with my ultra horizons settings and got 60 fps on planet, whereas in alpha there was absolutely no way for me to have ultra terrain stay above 40.

Particle effects are still bit tho, evident in the tutorial area with all the damn smoke and being close to them dropping frames.

Definitely improved, also my GPU gets utilized more than it did during alpha, so some CPU bottlenecks must have been fixed as well.

If it runs like this on PCs then FDEV should save themselves embarrassment and skip the original PS4 and XB1 hardware for consoles. Maybe target PS5 and Xbox Series S|X only.

Not at all surprised with the optimization issues between Alpha and urm, Beta. Some people actually believed final release would result in a 60% performance increase. That's not optimization. That's a miracle.

Yep... It is just absurd they're still going for last-gen consoles.

I think that similar to another Space Game that I won't mention, the server performance is a constraining factor on frame rates.
So you're saying that Odyssey will give me Horizons performance in Solo?

Core i5-7600, RX480 4GB. High quality preset without any antialiasing. Solid 60fps in the space. 45-55fps on the ground. 25-35fps in settlements. Maay be lower near the open fire.
