Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Starting to get the hang of this exobiology. Have noticed that even though the DSS picks up biosigns on bodies, it doesn't mean there is anything there - have noticed that bodies with no atmosphere are barren even if biosigns are picked up so am avoiding

If there's no atmosphere there should be zero bio signs. Elite Observatory is a really helpful tool for for exo - and exploration - and I highly recommend it.

A body may be reported as having life in the sysmap - click on the landable with atmosphere body, then select the third icon down on the right. The bio count will show.

However, you may not get them all. I once landed on a body that supposedly had seven signs but I could only find one.

As to meeting in game, no we've never organised such a thing. I think we all have our own times and gameplay preferences so it probably isn't viable.

Never say never though :D

I did set up a private group for us though. We don't really chat in game however - I, for one, rarely notice incoming messages in the comms panel. I'm too fixed on what I'm doing :D

Also I don't think I've ever met anyone from the forum in-game. Do we ever do meetups?

There have been / are in-game meetings for specific purposes - for example during the big expeditions. However, one of the issues is that if a large gathering is organised to take place in Open Play there is a certain sub-set of mindless bored idiots that would salivate at the prospect of lots of targets to gank.

The most common occurrence of gatherings of people meeting-up in game I would suspect are the pod canyon racers, the fighting club and the teabagging* efforts at community goals.

* Don't google that. ;) look here instead https://inara.cz/wing/772/

P.S. Maybe a Fuel Rats rescue is the most common actual meeting-up but that usually involves just the two commanders.

Just got the in-game notification of a hotfix about to happen, so I had to log off. I'm out doing exobiology and enjoying the sights. I found my first Stratum Tectonicas, too (they have a base value of 800,000, so for a "first logged" entry you get 1.6 million -- a nice little boost to the exobiology rank). I just found out about them yesterday, and the first planet I landed on today had them. Pretty funny :)

Here's a screenie of the planet, with its interesting orange sky that fades into greenish blue. I hope the hotfix goes quickly.

Landed on this little potato to check out the supposed Geological features, and maybe do some mat gathering. It was so tiny the curvature of the horizon was rather extreme :)

It had lots of Geological stuffs -- lava spouts and fumaroles. But the only shootable bits were Piceous Cobble, which only had Grade 1 materials.

Weirdly, the SRV was showing multiple types of signals in the wavescanner, but they were all Piceous Cobble when you got there. Something is amiss, I think.

I really don't like the EDO method of raw material locations. Much preferred EDH.

Been quiet in the past weekend as I stayed on Earth enjoying some vintage war machine experience (DCS: AH-64D Apache ) in the museum (DCS World).

As they announced the arrival of the vintage machine arrived, I was so excited that I just jump out of my SRV at Dave's Hope and ninja teleported to SOL( glad i have the permit while grinding the vette).

I'm expecting a few more days or even a week to try it out before getting back to Dave's .

Found a seven bio signal planet. Got six but... ossues? No. Flew all over the place, drove all over the place, took off and sought another "hot spot". Nil point.

I have a feeling there may be a bug in exobiology that misreports the amount of signs in the sysmap. I may be wrong.

Wonder whether it's like those planets with bio signals that have no atmosphere and have nothing on there at all...

I came across a 6 bio signal planet, currently found 2 of them... It's a very red world too because of the atmosphere. Everything is red

I want to find a blue world now, where everything I see is just blue music starts

Having finally got bored with NMS I thought I'd have a peek to see if Oddity had improved much. I have basically stayed clear of EDO due to its dreadful performance issues but I was pleasantly surprised to find the game hugely improved. My PC was built years ago for flight sim really so it has an i7 6700K processor at its heart it runs at 4GHz with no OC applied - it has 32GB RAM and the gfx is a GTX1070 with 8GB memory. I mention all that because running Oddity in ultra feeding the monitor at 2560x1440 I have yet to see the frame rate drop bellow 45 in settlements or on stations - solid 60 everywhere else (locked) - with no stutter whatsoever, smooth as silk. This is a huge improvement to the situation a few months ago where stations and settlements were an embarrassment - low FPS (very variable) and loads of stuttering.

So anyone else hanging back might want to have a look and see how it runs for you now, you might be as surprised as I was.

Now I just have to learn about suit and gear mods to catch up. ;)

I've had a few planets where I could not find one or more of the supposed biological entities. I think some of them are just very sparsely populated. I give up after a while and move on :)

It's a very red world too because of the atmosphere. Everything is red
I found this one today, also very red due to the dim red star. Even the "day" side is quite dark, too.

It had 5 bio signals, with the Cactoida being the hardest to find. I did find some though, eventually.

Welcome back! :D

In all seriousness though, you might find settlements with fires a bit of a strain. My rig did, albeit before U11... not sure if they tweaked that bottleneck.

As for suit and weapon upgrades... yeah, a bit grindy but still doable. Some downloadables are notoriously rare. Still, you can get away with quite a lot of that by finding the pre-upgraded stuff for sale at Pioneer Supplies. There's a whole thread on where stuff currently appears.

In the same system as the red planet, there is another planet which has bio signals. Whilst exploring, I noticed this big dip in the ground, so I went to investigate. Just kept going down and down, my SRV was just sliding further down. Finally reached the bottom, I looked up (as in the pic). Then I tried to get out. Tried various escape routes but ended up sliding back to where I started, even tried a zig zag method on an incline to no avail. I was so deep, the topography map got confused and thought I was 90 degrees on the edge of a sheer drop (looking like one of those mountain goat things). I panicked, I thought I would have to abandon the SRV and get out on foot.

Did manage to find a way out but the SRV was then acting all weird, even the slightest touch of gas would send it forward at full throttle so I had to drive this crazy thing at full pelt to my ship...

Still haven't checked out the rest of the planets yet in this system.

(the system for ref is Wregoe DC-V B57-7)
