Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I hit triple elite last week, and out of lack of any other particular goal I've been hanging around Eravate in open in a sidewinder. I missed it back when I was harmless 'cause I made a beeline out of the starter systems as soon as I could (and started in Asellus Primus anyway)

So far I've seen a distinct lack of murderhobos.

Thanks all!

I had a couple of deliveries to do so thoguht I'd finish them off befoer journeying forth. Three consecutive interdictions and two planatery collisions later, I handed them in - that'll learn me to be so smug at reaching Elite :D

Anyway. I now have a decision to make: move home to Jameson's or stay put in Diaguandri?

Don't forget that you're probably going to see stronger enemies, too. :)

That is, if you have low combat rank.
The way it works is that the enemies (outside missions, of course. In missions they have a rank given by the mission rank) generally scale to your combat rank, but if your trade rank is more than two ranks above combat, it drags the enemy scaling with it. In other words, you're going to see much more Dangerous and Deadly pirates, even if you remain, let's say, Master in Combat. :D

That's a conundrum.

When I first gained entry to Sol, I thought I would set up shop there, and did so. I opened my Interstellar Travel Company and ran sightseeing missions with the Orca. Made good money and it's a beautiful system. What eventually sent me elsewhere is the fact that permit-locked systems have no missions that go TO them. When I fly missions like boom time deliveries or transport or that sort of thing, I like to grab some to head back with, even if it's just some courier missions. But if your home is permit-locked then you'll always return empty handed.

Not the end of the world, but something to consider, especially if you do the same.

Of course having the Modules R Us store could swing the vote :)

That was a long time coming...

Next goal... 1bn CR? Dunno - but I'm off to Founders World to celebrate!

Congratulations Tyres!!!

Wow, well done Commander! o7

For me personally, I love it at Jameson's for the central location and as mentioned, Modules R Us is SOOO handy. It's wonderful to tinker and have everything just right there for you. I left my Beluga in Ceos/Sothis area for when I want to run passenger missions because that's a great run, and it's fast and easy CR. So I just buzz down there in the Bubble Bus (DBX) when I want to do that. I also have all Mat Traders just one jump away.

Congrats!

Go for Jameson. It's got all you want (even Haz RES) and if you look up "convenience" in an encyclopedia, first thing you'll see is a picture of John's Memorial. The discount and their stock of gadgets makes it an excellent place to experiment with different setups. I'm stockpiling engineered modules there, because even though material traders are just around the corner, engineers aren't. Give it time and they'll probably go there too ;)

Don't say it too loud.
If players are whining loud enough that they don't want to fly their spaceships in spaceship-flying game, Fdev may cave in and enable all engineering shops at Jameson's, turning it virtually in a mats casino where players can just sit, roll the wheel and complain about RNG.

When you read Dangerous Discussion you might get a feeling that the percentage of people who play this game just for flying spaceships is surprisingly low. :D

No goals as such.. I've already got all possible ranks. I've already been everywhere where I wanted to be. I've got all the ships I wanted to have.

I still enjoy CQC, I'm going to outfit FDL for PvP.

I sometimes wondered if flying a spaceship was seen as a tiresome activity to be avoided at all costs in some threads, which seems at odds with playing a game about er...... flying spaceships... :)

Congratulations on reaching Elite Tyres!

I’ve ended up using Jameson’s like my garage. It’s next to my house and full of old modules, junk and half built experiments. I tend to run missions from the systems ‘attached’ to it if I’m in the area but the Bubble can be both big and small so plenty of options of where to hang your Remlock.

On topic, I’m trying to find my way through Power Play. For a newbie it’s a real struggle to get to grips with and could really do with some attention, on the plus side I’ve been shooting at bureaucrats this evening....so there are upsides.

Exactly.
People have different needs when comes to space sims, apparently. Some need to do as little flying as possible. :D

I'm a lazy son, so I use the Docking Computer, but since I've started killing pirates in a Mamba, picking up their scrap afterwards, manually using the cargo scoop is a bit time consuming. If I drop my DC and my guardian FSD booster, I could bring some collector limpets, and some cargo space. Normally when mining, the limpets tag along until they die, but I've seen youtube videos where d2ea pick them up after use. Anyone know how to do that?

The only limpets you can pick up to my knowledge are ones that have been dumped to make space in the hold, I suppose you could try targeting them with another limpet but I doubt it would work.

As for scooping things the Mamba wasn’t great at it in my experience, the Aliance ships are much better.
