I went to the effort of engineering the shieldless Chieftain "meta" AX combat ship for cold orbiting as they call it. I then discovered I can't even use the remote release flak launcher to get rid of the swarm, never mind attempt to hit anything with the gauss cannon (aka AX railgun).Thargoids are attacking in large numbers, apparently. I've never been much interested in Thargoid combat.
"Boss Fights," where you have to learn the complex patterns of the boss in order to defeat it, are not something I have enjoyed in any game. But there are a lot of people who do like that sort of thing, witness Elden Ring, for example.
Are any of you guys into this? I'm just watching it all unfold from the sidelines.
GALNET - 08 JUL 3308 - THARGOIDS LAUNCH ATTACK IN HIP 22460
GALNET THARGOIDS LAUNCH ATTACK IN HIP 22460 08 JUL 3308 Pilots’ Federation ALERT The HIP 22460 system has been invaded by large numbers of Thargoid vessels, with several multi-craft conflicts already reported. An alert was broadcast by Commodore Morag Halloran, military coordinator for Azimuth...forums.frontier.co.uk
It also takes an age to find a Thargoid Cyclops to fight.
But today it's different. I have a fleet carrier I can park next to non human signal sources, AX shard cannons and a Cutter that can have a class 8 prismatic shield, 2 x class 7 engineered shield cell banks and 3 flak launchers to compensate from my lack of skill. Or I could let the prismatic shield tank the swarm damage. I then still have 4 hard points for whatever combination of shard and gauss canons I want to try.
I should have prepared better for today. The prismatic shield is not engineered and the military grade armour is only grade 1 because the Cutter is a haulage ship for me and I don't want the extra weight and don't normally need the extra protection.
I'll go assess how much engineering I need to do and what materials I have. Maybe I'll try and destroy my first Thargoid. But Quain and my alt account just started a war in a system where we want our faction to wrestle control of a station from a bunch of pirate anarchists. So, you know, busy busy
