Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Really? That's an interesting point!
My first card was on my first system I built. The company was STB (Simply the Best). I never had an issue with it. They would go on to become Nvidia a few years later.

When AMD first came out, there was a LOT of hype. So I went with one of them. There was always some sort of issue. If it wasn't lines it was artifacts. If it wasn't artifacts it was odd crashes.

The last AMD I ever owned was the old HD 6770. (It's still on a shelf in the basement.) It was a pretty decent card in it's day, but still had the occasional issue of trouble with lines, odd artifacts and the occasional crash.

I went back to Nvidia after that and have never had an issue since.

Any time you see errors like that, look at the system stats they post. The OP is using a Radeon RX 6700 XT.

I've never liked AMD CPU's either for the simple fact that they get their ability by overclocking the hell out of them. They always suck up a ton of power and typically burn out long before an Intel will.

My backup computer is a 1st generation i7 Intel that still runs very well. I have two friends that have been through multiple AMD processors due to failure during the time I've owned that original i7 that's still going strong.

For some odd reason, they still swear by them.

Back in the Bulldozer days, sure... nowadays they're comparable. Intel's CPUs generally uses more power, AMD's Zen architectures are just more efficient. Performance generally trades blows, it depends on what you use it for. And for relibility anecdotes, but my 4.5-year old Ryzen 7 2700X is still as good as the day I got it, and I have an Athlon II X3 435 in a cupboard somewhere that I used for much longer than that.

I been curious to try AMD though since after acquired ATI some time back. But when GPUs were finally back at list price, couple months back, yet again NVIDIA only would pull my purse strings. Just in time for prices to drop, and soon a new generation come out. Truly, a first world solution to a first world problem. loosens collar.

But anyway back in teh day, well after CGA I had VGA; then the first board I installed was, upgrading the latter to a Cirrus Logic SVGA card in ISA. The first video board. The first real board was much more the badboy - a Gravis Ultrasound in the EISA ! And in conclusion, that's right: not only did we walk to school uphill both ways; but the sound card often the more substantial.
