Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

...

A carrier? At the rate I am playing, unless they introduce a small carrier that is way cheaper than the regular ones, it will take several years for me to obtain one... 😅
It took me almost 2 years to get my carrier, but I lucked out back in June when the Tritium CG was paying 400,000CR/ton and I went from 2.8B in the bank to 10B in less than three days...many carriers were bought as a direct result of that CG...

Keep a look out, these kind of things pop up from time to time...not always a CG, sometimes its mining...

As I tend to use specialized ships, the DSS is only on one of them. Maybe two, later on.
I rarely am in a hurry, thus the auto launch helps me a lot - I usually use that time to set my destination.
I am not sure if it really is faster to manually dock if you arrived on the far end of the station. The ADC knows how to boost, after all.
Yes it does but it usually steers well away from the station, on manual it is possible to cut down the distance travelled. Additionally on manual you don’t have to wait in a queue.

Would a Viper Mk III with dirty drives be fast enough to cause this problem?
It would be more than fast enough, it is one of the fastest ships in the game, it also depends on how much inertia and drift are present which I don’t remember.
This docking control issue is more of a problem in Odyssey whee the directional thrusters seem less powerful.

Landing on higher gravity worlds is generally safer with a docking computer at least until you have mastered the blip the Flight Assist off technique.

Aye started mid-September. Wonder what to do with them, the only wothy idea so far is to save those on my carrier until another station is attacked and then to hand them in for rep... I'm in a little doubt, but i think it worked back in a while... Anyway it's cruel not to pick them up...

For quite a while i had this with one of my suits, with others however it seems fine. I've commented on the issue. I remember that voting was a thing... Idk do i have to vote somewhere? But ye, something is definitely not entirely right with suit skins.

More you land, more you get used. After a while it'll be easy and you will not even be looking at the timer. ADC is a good thing and if you have a spare 1 slot, which is usually the case when you're either flying a small ship and have a spare slot, either you're not needing a DSS. If so, i always install one. Taking off with it is too slow tho - you're rather boosting through the slot. Planetary landing i think too slow as well, tho i only tried a couple of times maybe. But docking itself is priceless. You just boost once, so you're 7.5 kms away and you req docking... Ye, it might be a little faster to dock on your own, but why...

Also there's a couple of extreme cases of Imp ships (you need preferably a carrier and a Cutter to experience that, but don't hurry to get those, it's a (long) pain to see a Cutter landing with ADC on a carrier) + some very fast ships that are sometimes crashing due to speed. I tend in fact to install a standard docking computer, that can only dock, and that consumes less power. But then again, Anaconda, or maybe Beluga can use an auto take off.
I think you can only vote on an issue once it gets a "confirmed" status. I think...

I just recently went from about 2k to 15k in the same amount of time...
And mining still is something I have to make myself really aquainted to... Besides some tickling of a floating rock somewhere under the eyes of the PF, no experience, so far.🤷‍♂️
Still working on figuring stuff out and finding my place.🤔

My experience is a different. The comuter often flies closer to the station than I would dare.

That would have been my guess, as I am flying around in said Viper at the moment, without any issue.

Ack... fell asleep in front of the screen...

One of the joys of the game is how different it can be, so far neither Docking Computer has taken through the ring of a station.

As I said how drift prone a ship is could be a factor and I don’t know that the Viper drifts much.

Been there, done that and found myself in that trench outside the toast rack and docking slot at a Coriolis station. The last thing I remembered was getting docking permission about 7km away.

I've thought about my next project.

It's going to be a full-on stealth build for Ody on foot. It needs to start with the suit which I don't yet have, let alone upgrade and, given the Colonia area isn't as rich in n G3 offerings, this will be quite a long term goal.

I'll then do the three weapons that are, as yet, practically bereft of upgrades.

I'll be in no rush. There's plenty out here to do :)

Luckily, this didn't happen to me yet. But I more than once woke up to the sounds of my ship rapidly speeding up while approaching a station/planet in SC... Fell asleep right in the moment when I wanted to activate the SCA...
This time, though, I fell asleep in the forums. 😅

A different experience for everyone, even with supposedly standardized features. I'm loving it.
Quite at the beginning of my journey, I had a situation where it seemed like the computer would attempt to do that. Scared the crap out of me - just had tried this once before, flying manually around the station, which rotated way too fast for my flying skills... 😵😦😵

I haven't visited the Tokyo system yet, thus I can't tell if any of my ships tends to drift...
😉

RE: SRV racing:
Had to dig a bit in the Events section, but found a couple past events:

And if you really, I mean REALLY, love driving the SRV, then there's:
