Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I was wondering, does the prismatic shield cut the mustard against Thargoids?
Or are shields in general of less importance against them?
I use bi-weaves for a reason: it runs a lot cooler. Prismatics draw a ton of power and run really hot. It's like ringing the dinner bell for them. You simply can't hide. Ever.

The Chieftains fast turn rate more than compensates for the fact I can only fit 2 x Large AX Multi cannons and 1 x medium compared to the Krait MKII with 3 x Large and 1 x medium.
Now where have I heard that before? ;)

This is true, but the Conda is good at pretty much everything. The vette, not so much outside of fighting in my humble opinion.
In many ways they are identical. The Vette is better for combat, but the Conda jumps further. I think I might end up with a Python though. The one I have for core mining is sort of obsolete now, but it handles extremely well, and it could become much more versatile with a few changes.

Found a system with 11 bios and grabbed them all. Normally, I wouldn't have the patience to do that as some were quite difficult to get but, given the payouts, I persevered. It took me to Elite 1 in exo. and about 25% towards Elite II.

Exo is defintiely the new LTD.
I'm heading back out in a couple hours. I'm sure I'll be elite by the end of the day with relative ease. It's sort of sad, really. It's just far too easy. I appreciate the extra money payouts, but they really completely broke Exobiology as an endeavor.

All those months I put in to getting up ranks when if I had waited until now I could have done all of it in a few days.

With the mention that you could never get to elite from a single LTD load (pre-carriers) and getting 600t of LTD meant about 2-3 hours depending on mining skill just to mine them. Finding and traveling to a selling market was an entirely different story

So, yea - those Exobio payouts are way better than what mining was in it's glory days. 🤷‍♂️

Yesterday, while trying to figure out which ship I felt most comfortable in as an "Escape Pod", I went to my favorite CNB. That also gave me a chance to work on my last Elite rank, being combat. I'm sort of 90% through "dangerous", and while at the CNB I decimated the amount of pirates in the galaxy considerably, but I'm still only ~90% through dangerous. Well, it's a good thing to have a goal they say... :alien:

I think it's new. Very festive, too :)

I thought it looked particularly fine on the DBX. Besides looks, I recommend slap some eggnog collectors on the utility mounts though. This increases cheer at the expense of thermal performance.

And in this time of crisis, if we stand any chance of bringing the thargoids a touch of Christmas, it looks like it's going to be Christmas by force. Jinglebells on the hard points

They're too much for me I'm afraid so I'll be avoiding those areas,

We'll save you, CMDR Tyres O'Flaherty!

I also heard CMDR Rupee Noone on the system radio announcing something about "top 1% of liners out there". I guess thrill seeking tourists want tours of Thargoid conflict zones now... :ROFLMAO:

Allow me correct the record on that 1%, CMDR Quain. In point of fact I was down with only the bottom 1%

They haven't felled me yet but I cut that one too close. Too close for my competitors to match price anyway!!!

Hmmmm, seems you guys are having great fun with ax pewpew recently.

Fun it ain't exactly, CMDR-NOBODY. But we've got to keep morale up. This war is on our front porch

So not just pewpew these

I've unlocked the Guardian Hull Reinforcements, now to fit them on the ship and try them out.

It's funny because I woke up with a plan to go get this myself 😹

Been a while since I took the old Asp Explorer for a drive. Apparently I'd stripped it of all upgrades so had to shuffle in a proper FSD and do some light engineering, but she soon ended up with 62ly range and a surprisingly nippy set of thrusters.

Arrival at the destination planet was a little annoying, since there was a tourist beacon set up for the ruins; about 1500km away from the actual ruins. Took a fair bit of hunting to remember that the thing I wanted would be in the navigation points list rather than contacts, but eventually it was just a short hop around the planet.

Cue one of the more ridiculous game loops in Elite Dangerous. Circle these 4 obelisks, log out, log in, repeat. Because the tech broker wants 16 of two types of scan, and they only give 1-2 each of a random type. Frankly there is no excuse for this, it's stupid. Either the obelisks should give 8x more, or broker's prices should be cut by a factor of 8, or there should be many, many more guardian ruins sites, on actually interesting planets that are fun to visit and the relog reset should be given a cooldown that is higher than the travel time between them.

Why not send players to atmospheric worlds with twin suns, rings, or gas giant parent bodies? This is a chance to select the prettiest worlds outside the bubble, and it irks me that in all this time FDev have never bothered to hand-plant 20-30 more sites. Literally, just say that there's a minor improvement to scanning tech and some new sites have started being spotted to let players know they should go check out nearby systems again.

Anyway, enough grumbling. I only needed obelisk scans because I had a fair stock of physical materials from... probably before Odyssey. After about 20 mins I had enough for the two items I wanted; hull reinforcements and guardian power plant. The latter because I quite fancy sticking one in a vulture to see what it does.

Honestly, the sites aren't bad places to visit, but imagine how much cooler they would be with an atmosphere and an interesting sky. And imagine if there were 4-5 on each planet so we could pick one that's in daylight instead of having a 50/50 chance of doing the whole thing in the dark.

But yes, 2x class 5 guardian hull reinforcements now fitted to my Cutter 😸 It has actually dropped about 10% hull points, I guess I will find out whether it was worth the trade next time I get hit with a caustic attack. It has occurred to me that there may be a lot of difference between my casual 2 modules, and a full hull tank with 8-10, depending on whether the caustic resistances stack.

Did a Guardian poop on your Asp?

And you believed him?

You really ought to know better than that by now.
I'm happy the Chieftain is my best ship vs. Scouts and Interceptors. It means my Krait MKII can remain outfitted for the role of combat and mission running where it excels, and the Chieftain is exclusively for AX combat.
I've treated the Chieftain to one of those Styg.... whetever it is colours. It's blue. I'll grab a picture this evening.

Oh yes, grabbed some reinforced mounting plates and a Guardian Module Blueprint at lunch time. Just got to head back and buy those guardian hulls...
