Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Here's my Asp X departing my carrier, that's orbiting a Red Dwarf star.

Go on, pronounce buoy - I dare you. ;)
Well I don’t pronounce it like the knife.

Ancient Vulture story.
Back when the engineers where new and Elite combat pilots were requesting support to reset their ranks to something a lot lower because the NPCs were starting to dodge and shoot back I had just started playing the base game, a few months later I tried out a Vulture equipped with a laser and a multicannon as was the usual advice.
I was fighting in a ring for a CG when my canopy vanished this annoyed me so I stayed to blow up the NOC who had done it, as soon as I left the ring I realised that the CG station was probably too far away so replotted to an outpost quite nearby.
My approach to the outpost was severely hindered as there wasn’t much of the canopy left for the HUD to display on, however I made it to the outpost and successfully requested docking and located the pad.

Unfortunately as I said it was an outpost where you need to land and start the pad taking you down to the hanger for the air supply to be recharged, I used the last drop of air in my emergency supply a couple of metres or less above the pad. Iwas by then getting quite tired of hearing my self suffocating. Yes I had died that way before due to lack of fuel before I was aware of the fuel rats.

Anyway, I was unaware or confused by the numbering schemes and ended up with a 1A fuel scoop thinking that would do the trick, it worked but super slow. It would only go up to 43 whatever per second where my current one, a 7A, does 1048 per second (sitting at 750 during scooping makes it continuous without over heating). It took for ever to refuel.
I just realized that I dodged quite a few bullets by taking my time under the wings of the Pilots Federation...

It was there where I encountered my first cracked canopy. I don't remember the exact circumstances, but I had the luck to be not too far from the next mailslot to survive this. Must have looked like the end of that video advertising the latest Buckyballers' race, though... (This one)
Made me take a closer look at those life support module stats and is the reason why I always strive to install an A-rated module in that slot. Which in turn saved my noggin when I messed up a planetary landing, accidentially boosting upside down into a crater wall near a station, as it gave me enough time to get my orientation back despite the lack of HUD and find my way back to the station.

Now I've managed to get Observatory working with some new (to me) plugins, I'm seeing how they pan out. So far, I've only got the "Evaluator" bit giving info but that's because, for the Codex plugin, well, I'm not anywhere where a new Codex entry is likely. At the moment :D

What's not clear to me is how the Evaluator get's its values - it gives a current and potential amount but neither appear to be the actual amout awarded by Carto. I'm not sure what affects these values.

The reason I was having issues before was because I was using an old version or the Core program. A swift uninstall, redownload from GitHub (no, I still don't like GitHub - for the non-techy it's a little messy IMHO) and reinstall saw me right.

EDIT

Also, a Codex question.

Am I reading this right? In the example below where I've highlighted "concha" - it shows an exclamation mark with 19, and a tick with 10 in the blue part. Does that mean I've found 10 out of 19?. But then, on the top row of numbers i.e. where it says ! 28, tick 11)... what do they represent?

The 28 and 11 are the values for the item directly above Concha in the Codex, look at the entries for Fumerola and Clypeus too see what’s happened.

I checked in game. I don't know about Oddyssey, but in Legacy, there is a legend for the different signs on top of the page.
The circle with the dots inside mean that the existance of that specific entry is rumored,
the circle with the "!" in it means that they are reported and
the tick means that it is confirmed.
A click on the picture should open the according entry.

Thank you - after all this time i’d still not known about those for sure, googled, googled more, even watched an old OA video… apparently the “rumoured” bit hasn’t been used much?

Landed here near some much sought after Bacterium Aurasus Green :sneaky: after flying over those mountains in the background, where there's a lot of blue signal for Frutexa. This side of the mountains where I am now I've already come across Tubus and Tussocks. Also I just found some of the Frutexa around here, so saved having to go into the mountains with awkward landing spots to find them. Can get all 4 bios on this moon right around here with a bit of luck...

Seeing this now - well i guess it's one of those things that was right under my nose all this time after all... :D

I updated mine a few days ago as well, and Bioinsights started showing me a blue diamond on stuff I have not yet seen, which is cool. It flagged a planet as I scanned, telling me that the planet might host a biological that was not yet in my Codex. And it was right, I had never encountered that bio before. Nice job, MattG :)

I mostly ignore the Codex because I find it somewhat stupid, but there ya go. It does give me an additional reason to go scan a planet :)

It was supposed to be filled in by Frontier, at least that's what they said about it when the Codex first came out. It would contain rumors to entice folks to explore there. But they never finished it, so it's just a blank field that does nothing. I have no idea what they'd put in there, if they did put something.
