Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

If there is ever any caustic damage keep a decontamination limpet clamped to your ship, as soon as one expires fire another.
Easy enough to do, unless you only have 16 of them. You'll go through half of them in about 3 minutes. You use any more than that and you will have none left to collect anything with.

They've once again made it so damn tedious and ridiculous that it's just not worth doing. It's more annoying than anything else. I really wanted to have fun with this, but just can't. It's freaking ridiculously frustrating.

I started taking damage as soon as I dropped in, so...I dunno. I have a video of it. Damage starts immediately.
That's been happening to me too, seems to be a Taranis thing where the exit from SC leaves you quite a way in. I now do a 180 and head out until the caustic damage disappears. I stupidly did my original farming at Hadad (39000Ls), this is less viable since Glaives, but the SC drop there just left you neatly on the outside of the Maelstrom, no caustic damage and time to repair hull/straighten your tie etc. before venturing in.

For what it's worth this is what I'm using at present, in caustic situations I just spammed decon limpets until I got the caustic sinks.

Well, I don't know then. My build is similar, but it just melted in there, even with the decon limpet running.

I was hyperdicted by a Glaive on my way, and it made my cargo hatch malfunction, dropping all my limpets. I had to synth some once I got to Taranis :p

Didn't matter. Having the decontamination limpet running was not enough to offset the constant caustic damage.

I suspect the instant caustic damage is because at Taranis coming out of SC seems to leave you quite a distance inside the Maelstrom - try firing decons, flipping 180 and boosting until you're out of the danger zone.

At least that's what I've been finding since I switched to Taranis - I was wondering why I'd used up a full caustic sink farming one item. It's 'cos SC was leaving me a long way in, so now I turn and boost out after SC until the caustic warnings disappear. You can then hunt on the fringes...

I had heard that Guardian stuff was negated in there (stopped working), so I went with the non-Guardian ones. I don't know if it would have made a difference or not.
Only one way to find out.

I was never worried about dying. My hull wasn't falling off that fast. In fact, the limpet outran the damage being done. I just didn't want to hang around any longer and push my luck.

Gonna jump in the Krait and take out my frustrations on a few scouts.

Yeah, I could swap them out easily enough. Maybe I'll try again after I decompress and think about it :)

I was thinking the way in might be to use plenty of hull reinforcement & caustic damage / repair limpets - it's much more difficult to get the caustic sink launcher (getting the tissue sample looks a bit like trying to extract a fur sample from a lion's butt ;p), than the pulse energy surtge neutraliser thingy - one is rewarded (and gets to keep) the energy pulse data even if one doesn't make it out of the maelstrom...so just 5 "successful" suicide missions needed really...

...but according to these experiences, mebbe it would still not be enough to get to use the neutraliser on a run to the core?

For some reason GHRPs are the only Guardian module completely unaffected.

Aha... as it turns out, i have a few of these fitted already :]

I reviewed my video, thinking I must've made a mistake when I scanned the Caustic Generator, but no. I did it right. But the research limpet target did not appear.

So, it's bugged as well as difficult! :p

It's a subsystem of a fully scanned caustic generator, if you select the generator in the left panel you should be able to open the subsystems and select the limpet port?

Ok that's it then - going to aim to just get more more pulse data next run... ;]

as it looks on your screenshot, the "target" panel is active. You have to actively switch over there to see the subtarget, as it is with normal npc targets, too. It is not like when you scan structures or megaships, where the subtargets appear in the contact list. It is more a subsystem than a target.

Also, you need to be close enough to be able to target the limpet dock port, if you get too far away, you lose target tracking completely. The best approach is having subsystems on a keybind, and flipping to the subtarget as soon as the scan finishes, instead of fiddling with the panels.
