Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

In the midst of relocating my FC I encountered something which I don't think I have ever come across before... a gas giant with three other gas giants in orbit around it.

I snapped it without the orbit lines too but this pic shows them.

Maybe you lot have seen this lots of times but my poor little LEP commander I don't think ever has.
Dude, that's awesome! I've never seen anything remotely like that. (y)

Maybe its time for an extended exploration foray...

EDITED: Made a typo, sorry - I wrote 3 instead of 5 - there are actually five GG in orbit around GG planet 9 - three of them have rings.
I've seen a pair of two GGs orbiting a shared barycenter, but this... wow.

Ee bah gum, ah remember that ;)
I'm now chasing Elite I in combat and it is taking absolutely ages...
Funny you should mention that, I've been inching... nay, nanometering along towards Elite I in combat myself. Since hitting Elite (finally!) in October of 2021, I am now at 77% despite the Thargoid war, many (many, many, MANY!) BGS wars and high combat zones, and all other levels of murder and mayhem.

How about your good self? (I saw you've got a new squadron, like the name!)
Yep, last one became an epic soap opera, and now I'm ready to be hurt again! 🤣

A nice bonus - seen a few before, but fresh Tectonicas is always welcome... :]

I've been playing since ~2018 and can remember when they changed the way exploration was done to the FSS system. Bit of a revelation that, and made flying to each planet a defunct modus operandi.

Since that functionality was introduced, I'd been using the same binds to move and zoom etc. based around the number pad on my keyboard. Today, I had lightbulb moment - and it's probably something most other CMDRs have been using since inception, but I, I'm sad to say, never even thought of it.

I now use the mouse to move around, the buttons for zooming and the mouse wheel for tuning. It's so much better. For me, at least.

Ah well, ya live n' learn :ROFLMAO:

Y'know, I played "battleships" (or was that "minesweeper" before it became a desktop accessory?) with the FSS and my HOTAS for years in solo and up until someone mentioned you could use the mouse instead here in this thread... and the same with the DSS (more like "missile command", but on a spherical surface?) - i only "clicked on that" (pun intended hrhr) after using the mouse for the FSS :D

..

Yes I have the centre wheel on the omni-throttle base set to absolute tuning and the mouse wheel to relative - so major (rapid) tuning on the omni-throttle and minor tuning on the mouse wheel.

Similarly I have one of the "ministicks" on the omni-throttle to X and Y axis for rapidly moving viewpoint in the screen and mouse x and y for smaller adjustments.

So much better than my earlier complicated setup.

Gather round the folding chairs and prepare for a slide show.

Penny touched down safely last night, and surpassed her dearly remembered grand pappy, Rupee Noon, for exploration mettle.

Some the file names got mixed up but I might have these highlights labeled close to correctly!
