Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Anyway, about all those missions I stacked the other day...

Oops!:ROFLMAO:

The Massacre Missions? Did you discover the same way I did that they count kills sequentially, not concurrently? 🤪

I'd assumed, when I (re-) learned this the other day, that you'd had no problem by virtue of parking a Corvette in the midst o' the enemy and letting the guns go to work...

No, I picked them up from several factions.
Forgot about the timer. Some minor factions are very angry with me. :D🚑

Yeah, I have a Vulture stashed away somewhere (pardon my linking my own nonsense!), but haven't flown it in a couple of years - I'll wheel it out again sometime, as you say, fun to fly. I've been wanting to try the Chieftain since it first 'launched' (just before I stopped playing last...), and the Void Opals made that a 'lets do that right now' kinda thing, since it was available in my neighbourhood.

Yeah, my 'stick hand' starts to get pretty crampy after an un-broken hour or so of combat. And sometimes you just wanna 'relax in spaaaaaaaace' :D

It sure is, still my 'go to' ship whenever I want to try something new.

Doooooo eeeeeet!

Sure, there are ships out there that can do each and every thing in the game better than the Cobra MK III, but it can do everything well enough to be worthwhile. It's essentially my main accounts main ship!

Speaking of my main account...

Since I was still down Witch Head Nebula way, ostensibly to unlock the 'new' engineer (Chloe Sedesi) down that way, I thought I'd check in on the Thargoid Armada over in Witch Head Sector GW-W c1-2 for myeslf...

There's a lot more of 'em (91 signals!) than can fit into one screenshot:
1QKUSc7.png

Oh lawd, they comin'!

And, since I need 25 units of Sensor Fragments, I reluctantly (see more of my nonsense for a little bit of context on that) sought out a couple of the lowest (Threat lvl 3) NHSS's and went to see if I could tackle some Thargoid Scout ships...

... no. No I can't. Lvl 3 NHSS has two Thargoid scouts, and I couldn't see that my weapons where having any noticeable effect on them. I was able to hang around in my (un-engineered) ASP X for a good 10 mins trying, but eventually had to bug out at 54% hull for no discernable gain.

I'm led by my internets research to understand that standard weapons are enough to destroy them without too much trouble, but I couldn't see it. Either one of them (or even both!) could've been one hit from popping, but I saw no indications of such, and legged it.

So now I'm heading back bubblewards, Chloe still not unlocked, via the Pleiades region, see if I can't scare up the necessary fragments by other means.

And if not, to outfit a better combat ship... (maybe its time for my main to get a Chieftain, too...)
Dunno much about killing thargoids. I'm one of those who never have had a problem with a thargoid. Kind of like how the magpies where I live have found out that I'm not hostile to them. I kid you not. One day one of them got scared of me, and I'm pretty sure one of the other magpie "told" the scared one to chill, "no worries mate, he's cool". The thargoids seems to have decided that them and I do our separate business, and that works fine, even though I kind of miss getting interdicted by them. They're quite a sight to behold.

If you dig out that Vulture some day, consider those frag cannons. To me the make all the difference. They need to be used at a very short distance, so the maneuverability of the Vulture is perfect for that. They rip shields ok, but once the shield is gone, they become nasty. Here's my current build:

Edit: Btw, the reason I chose rapid fire instead of double shot is that it delivers the same amount of DPS and it uses the same amount of ammo, but rapid fire makes it easier to hit the enemy ships when they attack head on, if your timing isn't perfect, and mine certainly isn't (I'm not 25 anymore) :)

Oh, me either (if you have time* for a whole bunch** of fan-fic rp nonsense, hit up the link in my sig for my thoughts about Thargoids...) - when the Thargoids where introduced, it was kind of inevitable that there would be hostilities (thats a lot of work for... what?... if not, and if it was really in the hands of players, to be determined by our actions then yeah, inevitable hostilities :devilish::alien::devilish: - but I want there to be so much more nuance to that situation.

But if I want to uinlock Sedesi (and re-unlock Palin, according to my info panel) then I need to obtain me those Sensor Fragments, and one way or another that means bashing up Thargoids and/or their relics... however reluctantly...:cautious::alien::oops:

I have a pair of frags on the Asp X I used to try taking on those Thargoid Scouts, first time I've ever used 'em, no idea how effective they where. Will persevere with 'em in more 'controlled' environments, get a better feel for 'em.

*srsly, its 'only' two pages, but them's looooong pages.
**did I mention two really looooong pages?

I'm pretty shure there's a rather spectacular crash site, where you can pick up those fragments. Can't remember what it's called, but maybe someone else does?

** I recently went to defend my MSc, and was I told that I had to present years of work in 10 minutes. I told them they could forget about that, and then I spoke for 1.5 hours :)

Ah, cool. I'd assumed that I'd still have to smash up the artefacts found there to release the necessary fragments - I'm on my way there (about to log back in and play some more...) so I'll find out soon!

Ouch! Hope it went well!

Which system is this in?

I need to lie low for a while...
Just on my way out to a Guardian site to do some 'archeology'. I thought I had a good site for Guardian pattern data, now thinking there is a better site in the same system, gotta check it out.

It went just fine thanks :)

Which is more than I can say about my current situation. I went and pledged with the albino pirate. Next I took a mission at our new headquarter to kill some pirate named Brian. Mission reward wasn't high, so even though it was a wing mission i accepted it. Found Brian, only to realize that he was guarded by six ships, including two Condas. Boom-rebuy-fresh gold plating :)

Now I been sneakin' around the system taking them down one at a time. Hope the system is clever enough to figure out that once I've killed Johnny, Johnny is dead and gone. That will make it easier to pop Brian. I hope. 🤞

Checked out three ruins sites for data.
Rubbish.
Gone back to my old site instead.
And it looks pretty.

Aaaaand, just as I was taking the pic someone started lobbing missiles at my ship. Jumped in the DBX and tried to ram them. They legged it.
I bet Time Team never had to put up with this!
(Well, maybe when they were at Castleford). :ROFLMAO:

This made me laugh.

I was in my Corvette, coming back from a mission, when this guy in a Gunship interdicts me. I stop to see what he wants. In my hold are 2 limpets and an Occupied Escape Pod I picked up the other day, meaning to drop it off at the next station. But, I forgot about it, so it was still in there.

Here's the message he sent me:

give_me_escape_pod.jpg

Such poor grammar, but he is a pirate, I guess. I opened fire on him instead of complying, and he immediately launched a hatchbreaker at me.

I circled him, firing away, watching his shield collapse, when suddenly he jumped out. Without a countdown, and without stowing weapons as far as I could tell. Just..poof. With the escape pod, apparently, because it was gone.

The poor NPC in that escape pod is having a really bad day. :p

There is a Xeno scanner you need to fit on a utility slot to get information about a Thargoid target, IIRC it shows up as an experimental and is probably only available from a planet side outfitting.

Ordinary weapons do kill scouts though Ax are faster, just watch out for all the corrosive some of them fling about if any of it does hit you it can be cooked off if you get your heat high enough otherwise a quick trip to a station or a decontamination limpet will do the job.

Military bases, planetary surface.

So, over to HIP 17862, where the 'new' survey tools help locate the crashed Thargoid in very short order, and there are 'sensor fragment' in abundance! Woot!

Yeah, nothing to worry about here then...

Ah, cool - cheers CMDR's!
