Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Jumped in the Tijuana Taxi II, for a quick trip around the Crystalline Shard sites.
Some nice scenery, some difficult sites, stuck with them for the fun of it.
Raws full, back to Ray Gateway for tea and medals.

Except...
I'm in the Tijuana Taxi. They never end up being quick trips🤦‍♀️

What's that shiny thing over there?

So the quick trip has become exploring around Barnard's Loop, visiting all the local nebulae, scouting for Thargoids, and generally enjoying the scenery.
This ship should come with warnings.
'Have you packed an overnight bag?
Have you made a flask and sandwiches?
Did you turn the oven off?
Where is the cat?'

Well at least it wasn't the pilot that you perved over. ;)

Oh, I dunno... :devilish:

The iCourier is a different prospect to the 'Vette entirely. Great at taking down shields but hopeless with hull damage with the current build. Hmm. Need to reassess hard points and engineering.

She is a fast little minx though.

Looking at the beams on my 'Vette, I'm reading a lot of conflicting information about what lasers I should have and how to engineer them. It seems very much down to opinion as far as I can see but I'm interested in what the good folk on this thread would say.

They are currently 4A gimballed, one overcharged, one efficient and both are oversized in the experimentalisationalism. I don't do PvP.

I think it also depends on your other weapons.
My main Corvette is for RES farming, so is all laser, apart from a small gimballed MC with Hi Cap and Corrosive.
The twin huge beams are efficient/thermal vent.

I just sit there tanking damage.
For a laser build, it takes NPCs down fast.

Honestly, I could probably turn everything else off and just use the huge beams and MC.

I was having a problem overheating when I tried to keep up sustained fire, but once I slapped Thermal Vent on one of the 4A beams, that was no longer a problem. Other than that I run the same engineering on my 4A gimballed lasers that you do.

I decided to keep going on my current alt for a bit. So I headed off to unlock Felicity. I haven't visited a barnacle in a long time. They are still pretty.

Felicity was her usual cheerful self. I sold her some exploration data. She granted me Grade 4 access right away. I looked at my material storage. Wow. Cobwebs.

So...off to collect stuffs. Wound up futzing around on a planet looking for Polonium to trade for Arsenic. Found this place with some nice geysers, and the needle thingies had Polonium so it all worked out :)

It was a fun day, overall. :)

I played around with beams too ToF, but somehow ended up with two fixed 4A pulses efficient and phasing sequence. Starting with fixed weapons they were a good choice for this Cmdr. besides the increased damage output is quite nice.

Too many variables here, and I've never flown a 'vette, so I have no idea about how she behaves in general - or what the needs of your specific loadout would be.

Since I usually try to get up close and personal, my favourite beams are fixed efficient/thermal vent. My favourite weapons ar Pacifiers, though - but not when I need to go into a Combat Zone.
Back to the beams - in my experience, the limiting factor for a beam ship is the distributor (and, to some extentm the power plant). A my frag build usually will use a one size smaller distributor, and even then only require one pip, while the beam ships tend to need four pips from the largest charge enhanced distributor I can physically fit. Efficient beams somewhat reduce that dependency - or make it even possible to use beams at all.
As an alternative, if your beam loadout has a problem with power, or you want to reduce mass through a smaller power plant and distributor, overcharged incendiary multicannon will do about the same damage as efficient beams, at just slightly less than half the power, with a longer range at the cost of being ammo dependent and a finite projectile speed.

cough cough....having my 3rd toddy before 6pm is a clear indication of the bloody cough, body ache and snotty nose that I undoubtedly catched in the festive shopping events. Last night up until 4 am, sleeping 4 hours until open mouth breathing and closed nostrils woke me up.

I just had it this afternoon, went to the beach, wind at 9 beaufort, 3 degrees celsius, blows the cobwebs away, then a pleasant meeting with Mr. Jameson, Ibuprofen and pseudo ephedrine,.... early night for this.... excuse me.... aaaaatchoooo...cmdr...sigh

Got back to Diaguandri, S/C to Ray and...
FDL interdiction.
Bearing in mind, this is my taxiconda. Mega lightweight everything, no weapons, pitiful shield, rubbish thrusters, not even any heatsinks!

Shields drop immediately, right then mister, ramming speed!
I dunno, but this seemed to confuse the prospective ganker.
Jumped back (to SC!), 19% hull, canopy gone. Jumped to another system, high tailed it to a Station for repairs.

Great stuff, made my day. :D

Hahahaha, sounds like a feast! :)

I worked on my alt some more.

I succeeded in getting Felicity to Grade 5 access, and I upgraded 2 FSDs to Grade 5 increased distance. That's the thing I miss the most on a new commander--jump range! lol. I'm spoiled.

It was interesting to start material gathering from scratch. I haven't done that in a long time. But, the mat gathering was pretty easy, except for Encoded which remains a pain. I was trying not to use repetitive methods, but in the end I gave in and went to the Jameson crash for those :)

My alt now has 4 ships. The starting Sidey, the Cobra, a DBX, and an Anaconda. Credits are no problem at the moment, so I'll probably focus on engineering for a while. Until I get bored, anyway.

This is Terry Palace. I was here selling Painite. I thought it was a pretty cool looking place.
